Food and service were impeccable. There were 4 of us and we all fully enjoyed our meal. I had the rainbow trout and it was delicious. We also shared a small sampler from the raw bar and the shrimp and oysters were Devine. Highly recommend!
Once again a delicious, flavorful and perfectly prepared meal!
I've been here many times before, but usually for happy hour. We were seated at a table for four right at the front window, allowing us both a nice view. You know how when you get seated at a two top and someone gets to look at the wall all night? Not so here. My husband ordered oysters and I had the clam chowder. My husband is a seafood aficionado, and he said the oysters had plenty of brine, which is the mark of a good shucker. The clam chowder was good, and had a dollop of crispy bacon on top. We each had a mixed drink and shared a bottle of wine with dinner. We both had scallops, his with curry, mine with bernaise. I think if we could have gotten away with licking the plates, we would have. Everything was perfection. Although the scallops were different sizes, each one was cooked perfectly. You know when something is overcooked, but I also hate undercooked, too, when the center has that raw dark look, and chewy texture. Not here. Our waitress was attentive without being overbearing. Just a great dining experience that we're still commenting on.
The food was terrific but the noise level made it less than pleasant
From start to finish we had a wonderful time! The chef offered to make me a special vegetarian pasta dish, and it was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The seafood lovers were very satisfied as well.
Great food! Fresh and creative dishes with options for all types of diets! Service was impeccable, efficient, and very friendly. We had a party of 6 but can certainly handle more. Also a great spot for a romantic dinner for two. Highly recommend.
Thank you so much. Today was just what we needed. The food and service were excellent, as usual. We love the view on Commercial St. A special thanks to Justin for providing a taste (and an education) of some truly great wine.
It was okay. Nothing special.
Met some friends and while we were in a corner nook - it was still a bit loud to have easy conversation. Food was fine - 2 of us had the scallops and the others had fish and chips. I would go back but it wasn't super special.
Everything was Great!! We enjoyed our time there very much
We make a point to stop by every time we’re in town. The seafood is phenomenal and they even do a great job with the accompaniments. You know it’s good food when you’re even complimenting the vegetable sides or the fresh bread!
Came here for NYE dinner. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff was very friendly and attentive. I got the lobster roll and my boyfriend got the NY strip. Highly recommend both!
Great food, great service
I found this to be an overpriced restaurant. While the food was okay I would not recommend this place. There are many other restaurants in the area that we’re better choices.
Good food very accommodating
The staff was amazing! We went for my boyfriend’s birthday and they had a handwritten note and a bottle of wine waiting for us. Definitely recommend this one!
Everything we had was phenomenal! We enjoyed the large seafood fresh platter with lobster, little necks, 4 kinds of oysters, and shrimp, a salad and the delicious and steak cooked to perfection! My favorite wine was served as well. Thank you for a wonderful evening prior to
our tickets to the Portland Symphony on a romantic snowy night after being married 46 years!
The atmosphere was casual and fine, the food was decent - like food you find in any typical city restaurant that is isn't striving to be fine dining, or high rated, or even delicious . The service was slow and inattentive and impersonal . A meal can be memorable in any price range and any setting - not here . Way way too many other great choices in this city .
I wasn’t impressed. The food was okay but not worth the cost. Much better food at other restaurants in the area. The service was fine but not very friendly. Would not recommend.
Hate to blight an otherwise positive review with a negative, but read on. Appreciated being able to make reservations via Open Table in this tourist city. Still, once we arrived and saw some available seating, we informed the hostess that we'd sit at the bar. Good choice: friendly and attentive bartenders, congenial patrons (which seemed to include both regulars and visitors)--and my husband could watch sports on the big TV. The food was good: superb Maine oysters on the halfshell, mixed greens, roasted brussels sprouts, mussels. So, what's not to like? Well, I ordered the scallop appetizer, priced at $18. Two scallops arrived. Beautifully presented, but: $9 per scallop?!? I neglected to ask before ordering how many scallops would be included---so, let the buyer beware. I swear I'm not a cheapskate, but: here, two scallops cost more than a bowlful of mussels. Cost more than five oysters. Cost more than two glasses of fine white wine. (Elsewhere in the city, a seared scallop appetizer is $14--I'm not sure how many are served, but....)
Annual trip to Portland w family
Was my boyfriends birthday and my waitress was excellent!! The food was excellent and we will differently be back!
Had a wonderful light dinner with my boyfriend. Pemaquid oysters were so fresh, Scallops appetizer melted in my mouth. Enjoyed a lovely glass of Fess Parker Chardonnay. Really nice menu, great waitstaff.
Dined there on a Saturday evening
Reservations were easy and efficient.
Clam chowder was good.
Halibut was excellent stepped it up with the wild mushroom risotto
You won’t be disappointed with the food
Service was attentive too
Portland is a very competitive town for restaurants. This place anywhere else you would always have a line out the door
The raw appetizer with lobster, shrimp, oysters and clams was superb. My fish and chips was excellent; my wife's swordfish was cooked more than she liked and thinner than she thought it would be but she still enjoyed it.
I never have a bad experience at Old Port Sea Grill. The food is predictably excellent, the drinks are well-made (thank you, Ian!), and the service is quick and spot on. It's a great place to bring people from out of town--good for visitors--and the location cannot be beat. Oysters are great, the chowder is a-MAZ-ing, the smoked salmon "butter" is addictive, and the calmari is over the top. I recommend this spot for any occasion. It's a tad on the loud side, but that brings energy and fun. Open Table was a great way to make reservations. A lovely night!
This was an excellent restaurant, with exceptional and friendly service. I enjoyed being able to hear all parts of our conversations without noise distraction. The oysters were excellent!!
Great food and a very pleasant server! I'd visit again.
This restaurant was recommended by my hotel administrator and it was worth the walk. The lobster was great.
We initially had a long wait due to a large group that night, but the manager was extremely attentive and provided some free appetizers & drinks in the interim. Food was excellent, worth the wait, and I would not hesitate to return next time we visit Portland.
We had some great appetizers. The mussels were outstanding. Lobster and Fresh fish were hits at the table.
Our first time here, and I think we will return. Clearly, you have to like seafood, because there are not many other choices. Everything seemed fresh and tasty, with four choices of sauces for broiled seafood.
Simple decor in historic building, Right across from harborfront, service a bit cool, food OK just not memorable.
We met friends who came to Portland on a cruise coming into the Ocean Terminal. Restaurant was a short walk from the dock. They said all they wanted was lobster, which they loved. Lobsters were between soft and hard shell, so very easy to eat. They also had clam chowder and Ceasar salad - everything that we had was great. My husband and I had delicious grilled swordfish and I had fresh clams. All in all a very positive experience.
We arrived a little early and they were able to seat us which was nice. The service was excellent, can’t remember our server’s name but she was from Greece and she was attentive and friendly. Bread with a yummy salmon Pate was complimentary. We both ordered the halibut which was delicious. It came with green beans and potatoes but I substituted Brussels sprouts for the potatoes and loved the entire meal!
Poor service. Had to look for waiter to get water and coffee refills.
Has to ask for bread, veggies were not seasoned all just grilled in oil!
My husband I visited this restaurant for our Anniversary dinner while in Portland. The food was excellent, the server was great and the atmosphere was very nice. If you are looking for local and fresh seafood I would highly recommend. The prices were not out of line with the other dining spots in the area.
This restaurant was recommended by the concierge in our hotel. We gave it 5 stars. There was a variety of dishes to choose from. Everything was presented very nicely. The meals were delicious. We would definitely recommend this restaurant and come back.
I was disappointed. The restaurant was not particulsrly busy but it felt like we were rushed through. Very unwelcoming service people. Ambiance tended toward school cafeteria. Waitress was quite cool. Yet as pricey as any in the area.
