Food was good but service was not good, very scenic view in lovely downtown area.
Our server Kirsten was amazing. And the food was deliciaous!
You all did a fantastic job working with my girlfriend to set up a really special night for us. Thank you especially to your manager who brought us a wonderful bottle of champagne to celebrate our engagement. Thank you!
That was a really fun night for us, too! Thank you for choosing our restaurant for your special evening - we look forward to seeing you again!
I chose Old Port Sea Grill based on Trip Advisor Reviews. We were not disappointed by our delicious lobster dinner. Cosmos were a great addition. I would definitely recommend that restaurant.
Thank you very much for visiting! We look forward to seeing you again!
Loved the lobster!
Nice., light airy place for a pleasant lunch with a friend. Relatively quiet... and therefore easy to hear yourself think.. unlike many similar nice places!
Thank you for visiting us! I am glad you enjoyed your lunch!
Old Port Sea Grill was recommended to us, so we gave it a try. The online menu was different than the actual menu, which was unfortunate, and we didn't realize our mistake until after we received our food. We told our waitress, and her response was that the online menu might not be the same. Still, we could have flexed but the dish was really not good at all. It was the Lobster Pasta. The sauce was very strong and overtook the flavor of the lobster completely. Besides that, there was meant to be a specific amount of lobster in this dish, which was not the case. That said, the steak was good.
The only difference in the dish is that we have started using orecchiette instead of linguine. We note on our website that the online menu is a sample due to frequent menu changes. Every dish is served with the meat from an entire 1 1/4 lb lobster - utilizing all the claw, knuckle, and tail meat. I assure you that you received the same amount of lobster that we advertise. I do apologize that it was not to your liking, and I will speak to your server about bringing these matters to my attention.
A friend and I made a reservation for that evening. I arrived earlier than my friend and was greeted by the blonde hostess. I told her that my reservation, under Perkins, was for 6 p.m. and that I was about 15 minutes early. Instead of making me wait, she gave me a choice of tables, (nice) and asked who I was waiting for. I told her a woman, and she said, "shouldn't be a problem, I'll look for a woman alone". I saw a few people getting seated, got my beverage, perused the menu. I was seated facing the side of the restaurant and saw my friend walking down the hill, and figured she'd be inside soon enough.
The waitress approached me and I said, "oh i just saw her, she'll be here any minute" and the waitress informed me she had left and was now on the sidewalk.
I went around the fish tank opened the front door and called her name, she had been texting me. I escorted her in, and this is where it gets freaky.
Apparently she walked in while the hostess and the manager were at the front desk. And they couldn't find the reservation. The manager said something to the effect, "well it's Saturday night, we're fully booked, we can't just let you in without a reservation.....blah, blah, blah. My friend said, yes, we did have a reservation, and he really shouldn't lecture her, and he said he wasn't lecturing her. And she said, "Well yeah, you kinda are."
And it went downhill from there. The hostess kept looking straight down, not engaging. There were no other groups coming in behind her. He kept calling her ma'am, she said don't call me ma'am and then he was opening the door, escorting her out. It was at that point that I was told something was going on by the waitress, and went out and got her.
How, in the span of TEN MINUTES did the hostess forget she was looking for a single woman?
Why didn't the manager say, go in and look around, see if your party is here?
You think you're the only restaurant in Portland? Ha!
Food and service were fantastic, but the noise level was unbearably loud for my eldery in-laws. (On the plus side, I couldn’t hear them either.)
It can get pretty lively in here on busy nights. We are at the mercy of the space and other guests when it comes to accoustics. But you will be happy to hear that we recently had a sound engineer evaluate the space and are in the process of constructing sound baffling, which should help a bit. I hope you will notice the improvement upon your next visit.
Mussels with chorizo were outstanding! We were there in March and it was pretty empty but we had an outstanding experience..
Thank you very much!
Great location with beautiful views. Always excellent service and good food!
Came here because an out of town relative was looking for RAW clams, not raw oysters, which was remarkably hard to find in Portland. Not sure why it was so empty on a Friday night, because the food was delicious, our service was excellent and it was a lovely evening out. The raw bar was a great value. Our main dishes were delicious although a little bit pricy, and the desserts were excellent. Old Port Sea Grill may be overshadowed by some of its trendier neighbors but this place was solid and fit the bill for us.
Thank you so much for joining us, and we hope to see you again soon! Cheers!
I realize it's the middle of winter but when the greeting by the hostess is the most positive part of the experience, there is a problem. Lobster dinner was average at best. Expensive for the quality of the food served. Food was not hot or appealing
Food was amazing. The duck confit, pan seared scallops, and calamari were so delicious
Thank you so much!
Unbelievable food. One of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Compliments to the chef and the service staff. 12/10 would recommend.
Thank you very much - I am glad you enjoyed your dinner with us, and we hope to see you again soon!
Valentine’s Day. Waitress was great. Food was good. Overall it was a wonderful first time experience. We’ll be back.
Thank you very much - we look forward to seeing you again!!
The food was advertised to be very pleasing but once I had received my meal I wasn't impressed. I didn't get what I had ordered and my med-well steak was completely raw. Service was also terrible. It's a shame because it really is a beautiful place in the heart of portland. I just expected way more.
We spent the day skiing and were hungry. Our waitress was friendly and professional, handling a request slightly off menu with grace. Lazy lobster and Brussels sprouts were perfectly prepared. Restaurant tables completely full, but noise level was never so loud I couldn’t hold a conversation with my friends. I’m so glad we stopped here for dinner.
Dinner was delicious! Sat at a table near the door - very cold - but moved to a different table and had a fantastic meal!
That was a bitter-cold day you visited! I am glad that we were able to find a warmer, cozier spot for you, and that you enjoyed your meal. Please visit again soon!
The food is standard fare, with nothing to love or hate. Our server was great. The emptiness of the place makes it seem cavernous.
With such a large space, it can seem pretty cavernous on slower nights. As far as the food, we are currently re-vamping our menu, adding new creative fare while still keeping a few of the simpler dishes to try to please every palate. Follow us on Facebook or Instagram for the latest offerings! Thank you for your feedback, and I would love to hear your thoughts the next time you visit!
My boyfriend and I went to the Old Port Sea Grill for a Saturday night dinner, and we both LOVED it. We were in Portland for the MLK holiday weekend, and of course there was a snow storm coming through so the restaurants wasn't too busy. I got the Grilled Salmon, and my boyfriend got the Lobster Pasta, and we both thoroughly enjoyed it! The service was very nice, and super attentive! We will definitely be coming back!
Thank you so much for joining us, and I am really happy that you were able to make it in before the snow hit!! We enjoyed taking care of you just as much as you enjoyed your dinner, and I hope that despite the snowstorm, you had an amazing weekend here in Portland. Please visit us again the next time you are in town!
Absolutely love this place. Make a point to go there every time we’re in Portland. Amazing food, great service and ambiance.
Thank you very much! Please say hello the next time you are in town!
8:15 reservation / 6 tables occupied in the dining region /seating wide open
Sat by the hostess in an area occupied by 2 other couples / reach out and touch / communal table
Asked to be reseated secondary to the communal table atmosphere, seating within restaurant was wide open. Hostess made multiple comments how this was an inconvenience. May be a resaon why restaurant was empty. She then sat another couple within arms reach. 4 couples in a 12 by 12 region/communal table (great if you like to be involved in another couples conversation).
The food was excellent
kale and wedge salads excellent / tomato bomb with wedge was excellent
grilled shrimp and salmon with risotto excellent
food better than reviews read prior to making reservation
couples next to us loved the raw oysters - communal table
service overall excellent
will not return secondary to attitude of hostess
better welcoming options in this city
I apologize that you felt unwelcomed at our restaurant. You feedback will be addressed with the hostess. Each guest should be treated with respect. I am sorry we failed you in this regard and would like the opportunity to make it up to you. If you do decide to give us a second chance, please feel free to ask for me directly. I would love to personally take care of you and give you the outstanding and warm service that we have become known for. Best, Justin C. St. Louis, General Manager
We all had seafood and the clam chowder. The portions were good and the food was excellent. The service was also very good. We will gladly go back for a second visit.
Thank you for dining with us - looking forward to taking care of you again!
Had family visiting from out of town and wanted to impress them. Old Port Sea Grill came through in spades. Freshest oysters around hands down. All of our food was hot and tasty without having to wait too long. The server was really helpful and friendly and genuine too. Would highly recommend.
My husband and I came to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. After we were seated, our server greeted us by name and wishing us a happy anniversary - I am impressed that they make note of these things and even took the time to learn our names. She then offered us a complimentary glass of prosecco to start the meal.
The food was incredible: so fresh and tasty. And the service was impeccable. It was truly a special experience. When we left, the gentleman at the door (I think he was the manager) even made it a point to address us by name and ask how our dinner was before wishing us a nice evening. We felt like we were one of their VIP regulars. Perhaps we will be regulars now. Two thumbs up!
Great cocktails, yummy oysters, and professional, friendly service! This might be our new weekend hangout.
The food and service were outstanding. The atmosphere was terrific and it is right in the heart of the action in Old Port.
Thank you! We love our bustling waterfront location in the heart of the Old Port and love our guests even more. Cheers!
Food was good, but overpriced. Ordered pan seared scallops and only 4 scallops with rice and green beans. $36. Questionable value.
Thank you for your feedback. We do our best to keep prices affordable for our guests. Unfortunately, scallop prices are high right now. We hope that the market will change soon. As far as the quantity of scallops you received, I must point out that they are U-10 scallops, meaning that there are no more than 10 scallops per pound, or in simpler terms - really big scallops! I am glad you enjoyed your meal, though, and I hope you will visit us again in the future.
What a gem! I had read other reviews on this site, some good some bad. But I thought I would make my own opinion. Let me tell you - there is NOTHING bad to say about this place at all!! From start to finish, our meals were perfect. Our server, Allie, was so attentive to us and knowledgeable about the menu. We started with oysters, which were so good and fresh, that we got a second round. I have eaten a lot of oysters in this town, but these were the best I have found so far! Then we had the fish tacos (they let you "build your own" - very clever and fun!) and the lobster roll, which was probably one of the best I have ever had. They do not skimp on the lobster meat!! All packed into a fresh baked roll with mayo and lettuce - a true Maine classic. You would be hard-pressed to find a better one around here.
The prices are reasonable - you get what you pay for, and Old Port Sea Grill delivers a great value in quality of food AND service. What a wonderful experience! This was the highlight of our trip. I can't wait to come back.
My boyfriend and I live in NYC and we went to Portland for a fun Christmas weekend. We selected the Old Port Sea Grill for a special dinner. The service was absolutely terrible to the point that we felt that we were not welcome or that being there was an inconvenience for our server. In a city that is frequently applauded for their food and culinary selection, it was so disappointing to have selected a seafood restaurant that has no place in such a respectable food city. Would not recommend.
The service was fine, but it is rather pricey for the meal you get.
We do our best to provide fresh, local seafood and offer large portions prepared to the highest standards. Seafood is pretty expensive these days, as costs are rapidly rising. Your feedback is important to us, and we will continue to find ways to give the best value we can to our guests.
We visit when we come to Maine....Food/service is amazing!
Thank you very much! We look forward to your next visit!
Convenient, accessible, good waterfront character, fun to dine in
Thank you very much - please visit again soon! Cheers!
Great food and service but too damn noisy! There has to be a way to police the hyenas!!!
I agree that the restaurant can be a bit lively at times. You'll be happy to know that we are in the process of a year-long renovation, which includes sound baffling to help deaden the noise level. I think you will see quite an improvement upon your next return!
Warm bread to start with a lovely salmon spread. Perfectly done Caesar salad. Simply steamed lobster, meaty and straight from the sea - exactly what I wanted! Service was friendly and attentive.
Thank you for taking the time to write your review! We look forward to taking care of you again. Cheers!
Food was a joke.
The calamari app was a ridiculously small portion, albeit tasted fine.
Lobster rolls bland and over-priced.
The waitress was outstanding
I am sorry you did not enjoy your dining experience. We make every effort to give the best value to our guests, using the freshest produce possible. As far as pricing and portion size, you will find that we are comparable to all other restaurants in the area. Thank you for your feedback.
Nice ambiance. Raw bar selection was very good, but a bit pricey. Oysters and littlenecks were very good quality. Wine list had good variety with some good wines which were a bit off the beaten track. Pasta and lobster dish was OK. Sauce was a bit too sweet and overpowering. Steamed lobster was fine. Dessert (Key Lime Pie) was disappointing, but they were kind enough to take it off the tab. Not bad but I would not rush back.
Thank you for your feedback. I understand that we will not be able to please every palate, but I do hope you will give us another try. Thanks for stopping in! Cheers.
We just really don’t care for their lobster roll. We are local and took visiting guests. The lobster roll has a very thin layer of watery mayo and virtually no salt. On the other hand, there was no salt spared on the fries. While I didn’t taste the fish tacos that one of our group had, I will say that it was great that they were “build your own” as it kept them from getting soggy. Overall, we think there are far better options in this foodie town.
I am sorry you did not like your lobster roll. We pride ourselves on our rolls - using an entire fresh lobster (claws, knuckles, and the whole tail), with herbed mayo, lettuce, and fresh baked Italian roll from Botto's Bakery. Most people love it, but I understand that we can't please everyone. In the future, don't be afraid to bring your concerns to your server. We will do everything we can to make sure that you leave feeling satisfied. Thank you for stopping in and giving us a try, though!
We selected Old Port Sea Grill after we couldn’t get into another popular seafood restaurant. We were not disappointed. The oysters were clean and delicious. There was a nice selection of seafood and both my wife’s and my dinners were very good. I would recommend Old Port Sea Grill.
Thank you very much! I hope we can take care of you again soon!
