We had a birthday celebration at The Old Mill Room with Sunday brunch and it was absolutely fabulous. They treated us so wonderfully with such politeness and A1 service. And the food was to die for. It is indeed a special place to have a celebration.
This was not a good night for the Old Mill Room. The service was simply poor. The fancy butter patties were frozen solid, so when trying to cut they shot on the floor. When we told someone about butter on the floor they cleaned it up, but didn't offer to replace it. They were slow to take order. They didn't bring a salad w/ dressing on the side. Took away the wrong one, and then never brought back a replacement w/o being asked to do so. Then we had to tell them that they were charging us less than half price.
I wasn't particularly excited about any of the courses I had on the restaurant week menu. Maybe this is what happens when you go to a restaurant shortly before they close for remodeling. Easily the worst dining experience that I have had at the Old Mill Room, which usually does an excellent job.
Wonderful lunch at the Boar's Head. The food and service were excellent. I highly recommend it!
Service was friendly and great, food was good, atmosphere was excellent!
This was my first time at Boars Head and I was a little disappointed. The atmosphere was drab, the service was slow and the food was good but nothing out of the ordinary. During restaurant week you expect chefs to be showing off a little. This felt like going for Sunday dinner at the country club. Perhaps all of this was due to the fact that they will soon be closing for a major remodel but I don't think I would go back.
We enjoyed our buffet lunch very much. Service was excellent.
Fun atmosphere, great service and excellent food. Good vegetarian options.
Restaurant week - atmosphere was very nice. The salad was average, salmon was excellent, dessert not the best-flourless tort was not as expected. I don’t know if I would go back for a meal at full price.
Wonderful food and service! Unfortunately we were seated next to a very noisy table.
service was slow...not sure why there wasn't a fire in the fireplace at lunch...it would have added to the ambiance on a gray January day....the lunch was good ( soup and salad brunch) but not memorable..
I always enjoy dining at The Old Mill Room. The peanut soup is worth the price of the buffet for me. And the bread pudding is excellent.
My daughter and I had dinner at the Old Mill Room while staying at the Inn. It was first rate. Being a VERY cold winter time, the restaurant was not even close to being full. However, we never felt like they were anything other than delighted to have us there. We mentioned the cold, so they sat us right in front of the fireplace - wonderful atmosphere. Our server was kept busy with 5 tables during our meal, yet was excellent. He was the real deal and definitely knew what he was doing! The food was beautiful and well prepared, although I can’t say it was really fabulous. We had breakfast there as well, which we actually enjoyed even more than the dinner.
Overall a fabulous meal! Great service and food. Would definitely recommend for any special occasion. Only complaint is that we had requested a table by the fireplace that was not acknowledged.
Took the Grandchildren for a holiday lunch. Food was outstanding and the service was terrific.
Always the best food and outstanding service I Charolettsville.
Overall a great experience. Food & wine were excellent. Table service was great but the kitchen was slow even though it was not crowded when we arrived. One disappointment was that I requested a fireside table when I reserved months in advance but we were not seated there.
I had business lunch on Friday. I am not sure how menu differ between weekdays and weekend. The buffet menu was very limited, unless I missed some other setups. No salads. I recommend to review the menu before you go for the buffet.
Our dining experience was wonderful. The food was a little below what we had experienced there before. Still good and the service was wonderful as usual.
We felt that the food selection and quality was substantially lower than a year ago.
The Old Mill Room is one of my favorite restaurants in all of Virginia. The atmosphere, the food, the service are all outstanding and have been so for the 40 years I've been going there.
My biggest complaint is that I don't get there often enough.
We always enjoy the Boar's Head week day lunch buffet. The price seems high, but it is really just $5-$10 more than other lunch spots where you get a lot less. We like that you get beverage, bread, a selection of salads and hot dishes and a big variety of desserts. The Old Mill Room is lovely, historic, and cozy. We like this place for a special lunch. Service is also always excellent.
Everything was as lovely as always. The buffet is exceptional and I am addicted to the bread pudding!
We attended a company Christmas luncheon at the Old Mill Room. The service was wonderful, and the buffet, as always, was high quality. Among my favorites - the spicy peanut soup, salmon in brown butter, mequite barbecue brisket, mint chocolate chip bread pudding, and coffee creme brulee.
Client meeting
We had our regular pre-holiday lunch at the Boar's Head. The buffet was had by two of us. Two in our party ordered off the menu. It is always a nice event!
Always a pleasure to meet friends at the Boars head for lunch or diner
A special experience with very attentive service and nicely-prepared food. Our only complaint was that we had specifically (in advance, and again when ordering) asked that any meat be un-tenderized and free of any spices or marinades. The pork chop was not cooked like this, and one of our party suffered afterwards as a result.
After over 25 years of visiting the Boar's Head and dining at the Old Mill, this visit was a reminder that sometimes places that we frequent can keep up the quality and ambiance. It was sort of bittersweet as we realized that this would be the last time we dine in the current restaurant as the hotel starts an 8 month renovation. We do hope that the new restaurant manages to keep the feeling, homey and cozy, in its new presentation. The wait staff as usual, efficient and very attentive to our needs, but not overbearing. They were there when we needed them, and not when we did not. It was my wife's birthday, and from the comments I submitted ahead of our visit, Erik our waiter brought her a little bit of ice cream with a candle...very sweet.
Creme brulee was not cooked through but excellent in years past. Also the best bread pudding ive ever had
It’s an annual tradition for us ...well worth the drive. Any meal at Boar’s Head is a real treat. We will see you again next year!
Nice evening and the meal was wonderful. Service was a bit slower than prior visits. Great venue that seldom disappoints.
I have one complaint and that is that the restaurant is very hard to find. There should be more signage once you arrive at the resort to direct you there. I used GPS to get to Boars Head Inn and once inside the GPS simply said,"you have arrived" with no indication of where to locate the restaurant and only one sigh hanging over the outside door. Once inside, it was very nice and the food of very good.
Fantastic lunch again! Every year, the holiday decorations and buffet lunch is a huge treat. Staff is attentive and helpful. Thank you!
This was my second time dining there and it was as fabulous as the first time two years ago. We will make this a holiday tradition.
Lovely holiday lunch. Great buffet. Beautiful decorations. Thank you!
Another wonderful lunch at Boar's Head. The food was fabulous, the service terrific, and the holiday décor sensational. I highly recommend Boar's Head for a special occasion.
Crowded, buffet line moved slow. Food bland. Deserts were delicious. Good service. Noisy.
Birthday day dinner
For a four star restaurant, we expected a little more. Food was given to the wrong guests, appetizer for two came out with one guest's soup, and there was a long wait between soup and dinner for a lightly attended evening. Service otherwise was friendly and excellent, with good presentation.
The ambiance and atmosphere were wonderful. It was a chilly evening and the fire
in the fireplace was a welcome and nice touch. The food was delicious from the amuse-bouche
sent out special from the chef to the wonderful desserts.
