Went to the lunch buffet with friends. Great food and quiet enough for a leisurely lunch with nice conversation. The buffet is well worth the price.

I have been to Boar's Head a few times and it has always been to celebrate a special occasion. The service was excellent and the food offered in the Buffet was very good and varied. My father opted for ordering a la carte and had an amazing onion soup, however, the grilled chicken was dry and tasteless. The rest of us opted for the Buffet and it was the best option. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant and will be going back on special occasions.

Have been going there for past 5 years for birthday celebration. Things have changed for the worst over the last year. Have recommended The Boars Head in the past - no more. Service was very slow and food selection has decreased. Will not be going back.

They have a lunch buffet that seemed be popular with those who were 'power lunching' it. I had the crabcake sandwich and fries. It was really good, really flavorful and not full of filling.

I am a UVa alum living in North Carolina and try to get back to Charlottesville once a year for a football game--always the Virginia-Carolina one. My family and I have not eaten at the Sunday brunch in several years but did so on our trip this past weekend for the Georgia Tech game. Always in the past the brunch food was "over the top". Although the price was considerably less than on previous visits, the food selection was disappointing. I had much rather pay more and get an unbelievable dining experience as we used to.

Classic dining venue near to (and owned by) the University of Virginia. Lovely southern ambiance and meticulous service in a wood-beamed setting. Wonderful evening.

Was recommended by friends, was in town for the weekend so planned Sunday brunch.
Selection and presentation was very good but the problem was food was barely warm and the brunch had just started as it was 11:00 am. Room temperature bacon , sausage or eggs Benedict just do not taste good at all.
Even chef sliced roast beef was not warm. Disappointed ,expected a better experience

Disappointing. Food was just average. Peanut soup was bad. Bread pudding good. Menu restrictive. Even though we were there for lunch I expected the menu to be a little broader. Will not go back again. Service was appropriate and staff was friendly.

One waiter on staff that night, who did his best to serve about 6 tables. Disappointed with food and felt bad for our waiter, who was overworked. It was a chilly evening, the dining room was freezing and we were seated by a large fireplace ... that wasn’t lit. Did NOT meet me expectations.

Came here with my girlfriend for a date and wasn’t impressed by any means. We sat out on the patio and had a few drinks before our actual reservation. It was nice and quiet with prompt service. The dining room was nice, but, that’s about it. The food here is crap, especially for the price. I mean, $29 for a piece of chicken I definitely could have prepared 100x better? And mediocre fish with bones still in it when there wasn’t supposed to be? Oh yea, and it also had no taste. No thanks. I’ve honestly had better roasted chicken at a gas station for $5. No joke. One of the sides were green beans. Total of 4 green beans. I mean really? I almost laughed at it along with the green mashed potatoes before the thought of (how much I paid for this crap) came to mind. I don’t know how this crap hole is still running. Whoever it is they call “The Chef” there must’ve dropped out of culinary school from the get go. Would never ever recommend this place to anyone or go back. The only things they have going for them is the fact that they have booze and good service. That’s it.

I took eight family members, including my 75 year mother-in-law, to dinner and she loved the food. Normally, even when my whole family loves the food and she is our last holdout. Standard “I could cook this at home for less” type of thing. After the meal she said it was worth every penny, high praise indeed.

Our meal was wonderful. The pace is slow, intentionally so, I think. It is a perfect place for enjoying the company of good friends or family in a calm, peaceful environment where the wait staff takes excellent care of you. The meal was beyond delicious.

We enjoyed our dinner at The Old Mill restaurant. Even though the Inn was fully booked, the dining room was serene and a low noise level.
The menu has been updated, some interesting dishes and combinations. Not the usual comfort and standard fare.
Our waitperson was attentive and friendly.

Our group of four had reservations here on a Sunday morning. While the official Sunday brunch was not yet open, the Sunday breakfast buffet was. We had a choice of the continental breakfast and the full buffet. We chose the full buffet with breakfast meats, potatoes, omelette station, waffle station, eggs, sausage and gravy, and the usual continental breakfast pastries and fruit. It was very good, kept well stocked, and we were in and out of there in less than 45 minutes and on our way to the wineries.

From the moment we arrived we were warmly greeted by the host and immediately led to our specially requested table. The service was attentive, but not intrusive. The brunch buffet and the made to order omlets were outstanding. The host came to check on our experience and was most pleasant and friendly. My companion was enchanted with the decor, the views from our window table and the general ambiance. The dining roooms are both tastely decorated and right out of old England. The art work is tasteful and very preppy. I have eaten at every different meal time offered in this first rate establishment and they have all been good. Every visit is an experience of great food, fine service and a warm and comfortable environment. As we were leaving, the host was again gracious and his smile was the icing on the cake.

If you are in the area, this is a not to miss dining delight. Gentlemen, please take your baseball caps off when in the hotel and especially in the dining rooms.

The Boars' Head is a lovely restaurant that knows how to take care of its guests. This time the food was not up to the prices. The peanut soup, one of their signature dishes, was too thick. The veal cheeks overcooked. The wedge salad lacking in blue cheese.
On the other hand the bread was excellent... and these days not many restaurants serve bread, much less good bread
Breakfast the next morning, on the other hand, was excellent.

The Old Mill Room was a good experience - the food and wine were great and the service was friendly. The price of the meal was not surprising for the quality of the food and the reputation of the Boar's Head. The room was a little chilly in places but the middle of the dining room was fine with a sweater. The atmosphere of the dining room is upscale rustic and comfortable.
