Old Mill Room @ The Boar's Head Ratings and Reviews
We (a group of friends). Have eating brunch there for about 5 years during Christmas season. We thoroughly enjoy the festive decorations. Enjoy taking photos with the tree and etc. the room off the dining hall is so very inviting, especially with the fireplace. The service is great and we truly enjoy the food! It is absolutely wonderful. Especially the bread pudding. Hope to be able to visit many more years to come!
We were disappointed with our dinners on Tuesday Nov 15. The stuffed rainbow trout was over-cooked and dry. My pork chop was tough and dry. The lobster bisque was ok. The "Old Mill" salad was very weird. I think the Sunday brunch is the best option at this restaurant.
My husband and I were celebrating our 47th wedding anniversary!! We celebrated our 7th anniversary at the Boar's Head Inn and have not been back until this past weekend. We were pleasantly surprised that it is as nice as we remembered it being 40 years ago!! The food in the Old Mill Room was delicious!!! The service was exceptional!!! We enjoyed the fact that we could hear each other without having to raise our voices!! The view of the lake and beautiful trees from our table was most enjoyable!!! We look forward to coming back again before another 40 years!!
I was looking for a nice brunch but was not interested in the buffet. We were not offered anything else and ended up spending a fortune. The food was nice but too expensive. Our bill was $130 for a breakfast that was wrth $60. I felt lie the Mill Room was a bit pretentious as well.
The ambiance of the Old Mill Room is restful and serene. The food is very good. The cold salad bar is excellent, the fried chicken is great, the trifle for dessert is absolutely delicious, and the service is very attentive without hovering. The blackened fish on the buffet is very tasty. Only the beef stew was dull.
Will definitely go there again.
Old Mill Room was the perfect place for our daughter's 21st birthday breakfast! The food was delicious and the wait staff professional. The Front Desk Agent was kind enough to take our pictures afterwards. The lovely day continued with a walk around the pond. Will definitely go back again!
Although the members in my party and I typically select from the lunch buffet -- we each decided to order off of the menu, this time, and two of us had one of the day's specials. Unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed, especially those of us who had one of the day's specials (the oyster baguette -- which only had 3 or 4 fried oysters on a rather large baguette). Next time, it's back to the buffet, which is consistently good -- and superior to what we ordered off of the menu.
The evening was perfect and it's only to be expected from the old mill room. Our server was so nice and accommodating, perfectly timed on everything. The food was outstanding. My scallops and my husband's trout was prepared exactly how fish and scallops are supposed to prepared - so tender and full of flavor, everything was so well balanced. The additional extras and attention to detail for our anniversary were such a nice surprise. Will absolutely come again!!
We were visiting Charlottesville with friends, and the Old Mill Room was recommended to us. it lived up to our expectations, with one minor exception: two of our party ordered beef, and one person did not think it was very good considering the price. Otherwise, it was a lovely experience, and we would go there again and recommend it to others.
I have been here twice for Brunch.
Easter Brunch 2916 was outstanding !
The food was special and the service very attentive.
Sunday Oct 9 2016 was not so good.
We had a lovely table. So-So service and truly forgettable food. What I won't soon forget is waiting for a piece of prime rib while the sole line cook made four omelettes ( two pans going ) and finally managed to carve while omelettes 5 and 6 were cooking. Labour costs issues ?
Green vegetables were "ok" Penne w/ mushrooms were decent. So $36 for a meet and two sides. My reaction was that this was less dining and more like Golden Coral for upscale clientele. Only Golden Coral probably has more people working their omelette and carving stations at one time.
Note to management: The Old Mill Room is a lovely distinguished setting. The dining experience should be equal to the location and the price. I will try you again because your holiday brunch was so memorable. But I must say I left this past Sunday regretting spending the money I did. Even my daughter who works in hospitality and serves for a living commented on the poor service. She works for tips and always advocates for servers, but not this time.
My wife and I took our dear friends to the Boar's Head Inn for a special occasion dinner. Our reservation was at 7:00 PM and we arrived before 6 PM in order to have a relaxing drink in the lounge area and visit with our friends. There was no wine list in the drink menu the waiter brought and when my friend asked for a wine list the waiter insisted it was in the menu. He had an attitude when asked to be shown the list and after he fumbled around he finally stated that "someone" neglected to include the list with the bar menu. He brought a new menu and some unsolicited, very spicy, bar snacks and when we asked if he had something not so spicy he brought them and when the bill came we were charged for them. He later disappeared and we had to ask another wait staff employee to check on our dinner table and bring our check.
The dinner and service at the Old Mill Room was very good. However, in my opinion the 6 oz steaks at $44.00 each were overpriced. I have eaten at Ruth's Chris, Morton's, Del Frisco and other fine restaurants and frankly I felt the value was not quite there. We noticed that there were many empty tables at the 7:00 PM seating and we were wondering why.
On a positive note, we have enjoyed your lunch buffet in the past and would recommend the buffet experience. But, would caution others about the dinner value.
It is hard to imagine a more delicious meal in a more welcoming atmosphere. What a delight to find this gem on the outskirts of Charlottesville! Everything we ordered -- from the house salad to our main entrees and decadent dessert -- was prepared with genuine creativity and careful attention to texture, flavor and presentation. And to make it all even more enjoyable, our service was absolutely flawless.
