Old Mill Room @ The Boar's Head Ratings and Reviews
For a four star restaurant, we expected a little more. Food was given to the wrong guests, appetizer for two came out with one guest's soup, and there was a long wait between soup and dinner for a lightly attended evening. Service otherwise was friendly and excellent, with good presentation.
This restaurant was spectacular it had the character and atmosphere we were looking for. It is unique in this fast paced world. Douglas and Anna were outstanding and with their personal touch made our experience more enjoyable. Please... give our compliments to the chef for his expertise. Again we hope to come back.
I've been coming to the BH for years and am disappointed to see that the buffet has shrunk and yet the price has increased. It is not as good a buy as it used to be. There was nothing chocolate among the dessert options yesterday. The decaf coffee was extremely strong - my friend didn't even finish hers.
I have been to Boar's Head a few times and it has always been to celebrate a special occasion. The service was excellent and the food offered in the Buffet was very good and varied. My father opted for ordering a la carte and had an amazing onion soup, however, the grilled chicken was dry and tasteless. The rest of us opted for the Buffet and it was the best option. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant and will be going back on special occasions.
I am a UVa alum living in North Carolina and try to get back to Charlottesville once a year for a football game--always the Virginia-Carolina one. My family and I have not eaten at the Sunday brunch in several years but did so on our trip this past weekend for the Georgia Tech game. Always in the past the brunch food was "over the top". Although the price was considerably less than on previous visits, the food selection was disappointing. I had much rather pay more and get an unbelievable dining experience as we used to.
Was recommended by friends, was in town for the weekend so planned Sunday brunch.
Selection and presentation was very good but the problem was food was barely warm and the brunch had just started as it was 11:00 am. Room temperature bacon , sausage or eggs Benedict just do not taste good at all.
Even chef sliced roast beef was not warm. Disappointed ,expected a better experience
One waiter on staff that night, who did his best to serve about 6 tables. Disappointed with food and felt bad for our waiter, who was overworked. It was a chilly evening, the dining room was freezing and we were seated by a large fireplace ... that wasn’t lit. Did NOT meet me expectations.
Came here with my girlfriend for a date and wasn’t impressed by any means. We sat out on the patio and had a few drinks before our actual reservation. It was nice and quiet with prompt service. The dining room was nice, but, that’s about it. The food here is crap, especially for the price. I mean, $29 for a piece of chicken I definitely could have prepared 100x better? And mediocre fish with bones still in it when there wasn’t supposed to be? Oh yea, and it also had no taste. No thanks. I’ve honestly had better roasted chicken at a gas station for $5. No joke. One of the sides were green beans. Total of 4 green beans. I mean really? I almost laughed at it along with the green mashed potatoes before the thought of (how much I paid for this crap) came to mind. I don’t know how this crap hole is still running. Whoever it is they call “The Chef” there must’ve dropped out of culinary school from the get go. Would never ever recommend this place to anyone or go back. The only things they have going for them is the fact that they have booze and good service. That’s it.
I took eight family members, including my 75 year mother-in-law, to dinner and she loved the food. Normally, even when my whole family loves the food and she is our last holdout. Standard “I could cook this at home for less” type of thing. After the meal she said it was worth every penny, high praise indeed.
We enjoyed our dinner at The Old Mill restaurant. Even though the Inn was fully booked, the dining room was serene and a low noise level.
The menu has been updated, some interesting dishes and combinations. Not the usual comfort and standard fare.
Our waitperson was attentive and friendly.
The old Mill Inn at boars head was fantastic.
The service and ambience was very special and the food was exquisite. The house specialty peanut soup was incredible and very flavorful Our dinners were also fantastic I highly recommend The Old Mill at Boars head.
