Old Hickory Steakhouse-Gaylord Palms Resort Ratings and Reviews
I eat here whenever I stay in Orlando - several times a year. Normally the service is better than good. My daughter's favorite thing to do is to order the artisanal cheese. This time the server did not want to bring the cart over - because she is only 12 he tried to talk her into letting him pick the cheeses and not bring the cart (after we commented how much she enjoys picking). Then we ordered the soufflés which were on point but we ordered those early and he brought them without asking anyone else at the table if they wanted dessert or coffee. Not up to par on the service side. The exception was Adell - he has been there forever and he is always super helpful. If not for him this rating would be lower.
We were seated on a deck near the bar. There were young children in the bar crying for awhile.
The cheese cart never came by, my medium rare steak was raw in spots, needed to send it back. After getting it back it was better but still had very rare spots but in order not to upset my wife I just ate the parts that were cooked. What a waste.
Whole meal was $150. Not worth it, will never return.
Our yearly tradition is to see ICE at Gaylord and try a new restaurant at each stay. The steak house was good but probably wouldn’t return. Our service was excellent. The food was the downfall. French onion soup was delicious. Would recommend. Steak was delicious. Rub that they put on it was good. Would recommend. The sides - not so good. Ordered Mac and cheese & mashed potatoes. They were terrible! Mash potatoes were very mashed and runny. Mac and cheese only had cheese melted on the top. They are also very tiny sides and very pricey for terrible tasting sides. The sides are half the experience! Would possibly go back (if someone else was dying to go) and only get steak and soup... but not sold to go back by choice.
We made reservations 2 months in advance when we booked our stay at the Gaylord. This w
Jas a family Christmas gift, there were 12 of us. same waiter, 1 of our tables had eaten an hour before us. 7:45 rolls around my 1 yr old is ready for bed and hasn’t eaten yet. My husband asked for the manager they rushed our food out and steak was completely rare when it was ordered medium rare so it had to be sent back and cooked longer. They offered us free dessert. We would have much rather had a great experience.
A Friday night during Christmas-Ice rush, hotel totally full. That being said, I feel that management did not allow for diner numbers, or else some staff did not show up. Food was very delayed in arriving, waiter was rushing by briefly once in great while, not the personal touch we are used to.. We have enjoyed Old Hickory numerous times in the past, but this was definitely an off night.
We chose this restaurant because we were attending the ICE exhibit. We thought the food choices would suit this group of people. The food was good, very expensive but we knew that going in. The non-steak items were small and everything was pricey. We would have liked to celebrate a birthday cake at the table but the cake fee was $35. when you bring your own cake.
The best I can say about this place was the convenience and location to the activity at the Palms. If you are at Gaylord Palms and want food, go to the Wreckers Bar.
Celebrating my wife's birthday, I made reservations. Can't beat the ambience and service. Our drinks, appetizers and meals made this evening all that I had hoped for. My wife's short ribs were delicious as was my filet mignon. Our meal was paced and not rushed as a result of our excellent and attentive waiter. The atmosphere was conducive to conversation as well. We highly recommend the Old Hickory Steakhouse.
This place needs a new chef. The lobster bisque was tasteless, as was the Cesar salad, the Bearnaise sauce and the mashed potatoes. The steak was terrific quality. The sever, Lynette, was great, really good wine selection, the artisan cheese selection fabulous and the place is nice. Our table was awful. This place has potential, but that's it. Far from good and certainly not worth the money.
This place was average at best. I'd recommend it for the location only, which is convenient for hotel guests. The service was good, but not great. The waitstaff commented on it being so "late", when the earliest we could get a reservation was 845pm, so we sat down then.
The food was also average. The started were good - oysters and french onion soup/wedge salads were all on par and what you'd expect from a steakhouse. However, the Steaks were undercooked (one had to be sent back), didn't have a sear on them, and were very pricey for the value. The side items (mushrooms) were not good. And the desserts were ho-hum. All in all, if I had to choose again, I'd probably go offsite and not stay at the hotel to dine here.
Our server was amazing! On point every step of the way. I felt sorry for him as the food was mediocre and I know how difficult it is to have a happy guest with mediocre food, especially at these prices. The food and wine are overpriced. The concept is nice - an upscale lodge feel, but it falls flat. The #1 priority should be the food and I do not have one good thing to say about either the steak or the native Florida Grouper. The sides were okay at best. The deserts were severely lacking. Needless to say we will not be back. The entire Gaylord Palms Hotel experience was subpar - not just this restaurant.
We ordered the Seafood tower, not asking for the price since it was 6 oysters, 2 lobster tail and jumbo shrimp. We did not expect it to cost $120! I had to send one of the oysters back because it was black and tiny, not to mention 3 others were very small and still contained shell in them. You'd think for that price it would have been perfect! Needless to say, the Delmonico steak was good and the wine list was not crazy expensive. It was a very decent restaurant.
Sides weren’t that good and expensive. Served luke warm everything had a smokey taste to it, we assumed that was the way they were supposed to be. Brussels sprouts definitely under cooked. We didn’t complain at time because we had a toddler who was getting restless and wanted to catch the light show, therefore didn’t wNt to wait for new sides or to be reheated while we had our meat. Meats were very good, cooked perfectly and service excellent. Still $500 for a family meal with so so sides, not the best value for our money.
Our server Sharon and her partner were outstanding. They were extremely helpful with the menu and kind. The food was delicious! The wine is extremely overpriced considering I could have bought the same bottle for $25 at the store but that is to be expected. Awesome experience and atmosphere.
