Old Hickory Steakhouse-Gaylord Palms Resort Ratings and Reviews
We chose this restaurant because we were attending the ICE exhibit. We thought the food choices would suit this group of people. The food was good, very expensive but we knew that going in. The non-steak items were small and everything was pricey. We would have liked to celebrate a birthday cake at the table but the cake fee was $35. when you bring your own cake.
The best I can say about this place was the convenience and location to the activity at the Palms. If you are at Gaylord Palms and want food, go to the Wreckers Bar.
Celebrating my wife's birthday, I made reservations. Can't beat the ambience and service. Our drinks, appetizers and meals made this evening all that I had hoped for. My wife's short ribs were delicious as was my filet mignon. Our meal was paced and not rushed as a result of our excellent and attentive waiter. The atmosphere was conducive to conversation as well. We highly recommend the Old Hickory Steakhouse.
This place needs a new chef. The lobster bisque was tasteless, as was the Cesar salad, the Bearnaise sauce and the mashed potatoes. The steak was terrific quality. The sever, Lynette, was great, really good wine selection, the artisan cheese selection fabulous and the place is nice. Our table was awful. This place has potential, but that's it. Far from good and certainly not worth the money.
This place was average at best. I'd recommend it for the location only, which is convenient for hotel guests. The service was good, but not great. The waitstaff commented on it being so "late", when the earliest we could get a reservation was 845pm, so we sat down then.
The food was also average. The started were good - oysters and french onion soup/wedge salads were all on par and what you'd expect from a steakhouse. However, the Steaks were undercooked (one had to be sent back), didn't have a sear on them, and were very pricey for the value. The side items (mushrooms) were not good. And the desserts were ho-hum. All in all, if I had to choose again, I'd probably go offsite and not stay at the hotel to dine here.
Our server was amazing! On point every step of the way. I felt sorry for him as the food was mediocre and I know how difficult it is to have a happy guest with mediocre food, especially at these prices. The food and wine are overpriced. The concept is nice - an upscale lodge feel, but it falls flat. The #1 priority should be the food and I do not have one good thing to say about either the steak or the native Florida Grouper. The sides were okay at best. The deserts were severely lacking. Needless to say we will not be back. The entire Gaylord Palms Hotel experience was subpar - not just this restaurant.
We ordered the Seafood tower, not asking for the price since it was 6 oysters, 2 lobster tail and jumbo shrimp. We did not expect it to cost $120! I had to send one of the oysters back because it was black and tiny, not to mention 3 others were very small and still contained shell in them. You'd think for that price it would have been perfect! Needless to say, the Delmonico steak was good and the wine list was not crazy expensive. It was a very decent restaurant.
Sides weren’t that good and expensive. Served luke warm everything had a smokey taste to it, we assumed that was the way they were supposed to be. Brussels sprouts definitely under cooked. We didn’t complain at time because we had a toddler who was getting restless and wanted to catch the light show, therefore didn’t wNt to wait for new sides or to be reheated while we had our meat. Meats were very good, cooked perfectly and service excellent. Still $500 for a family meal with so so sides, not the best value for our money.
Our server Sharon and her partner were outstanding. They were extremely helpful with the menu and kind. The food was delicious! The wine is extremely overpriced considering I could have bought the same bottle for $25 at the store but that is to be expected. Awesome experience and atmosphere.
My family and I booked an overnight stay at The Gaylord Palm hotel; and, a visit to Old Hickory. Of course, I picked Thanksgiving evening to dine there! We arrived shortly before our reserved time of 6:45 PM; and, were told we would be notified as the reservation time approached.
Unfortunately, it took two people to tell us that as the first woman to greet us was not fluent in English; and, could barely communicate our status. The other lady who jumped in to help logged us in on the iPad; and, I informed her we would wait in the bar.
Our bar visit was superb, with excellent service and drinks provided by Alena, our server. We were expecting to be seated rather quickly, so we went ahead and cashed-out as soon as our drinks were delivered
After nearly an hour, I met with Benjamin who assured me they were running 30-to-45 minutes behind; and, he was seating 6:15 reservations when ours was yet another half hour away! Had we been told the wait would be up to an hour after our reservation time, we would have lingered in the bar.
So, we camped out by the host stand; and, were seated almost immediately... Abdel was a phenomenal server, as have been all of our servers at Old Hickory. We've dined here on many occasions, usually around Christmas, Mothers' Day, a birthday or anniversary.
When we were escorted back to our dining room we were shocked to see only one other table seated. Through our entire dining experience, two tables remained completely empty!
We ordered three Thanksgiving Dinners. Everything was delicious: the Pumpkin Soup was incredible, the Squash Salad too! We also ordered a bottle of Orin Swift "F" to go with our meal; and, a Chocolate Souffle for our daughter.
We enjoyed unparalleled food quality and creativity; we had great service; but, the miscommunication, the lack of experience, and the wait just detracted from it. And, the price is high, higher than other comparable steakhouses in Central Florida. So, 3-Stars on this visit.
We have dined at Old Hickory many times over the last few years. It is always consistent. This time we were 95% there. We had a large (15 person group) and 14 of us received everything on time and were satisfied completely. 1 of us (me) did not get my meal until after everyone had finished. Which meant, many felt guilty for eating without me, and at $11 a side (of which I ordered 2 - they are meant to share) I ended up not only eating after everyone but also eating cold sides. Not a big deal at McDonalds but not great on Thanksgiving at a restaurant where we over $1000 for our dinner. Let me be clear - Juan, our server was excellent. The manager and the chef both apologized for the error. No one in the party made a big deal of it as it is only a dinner, no one was spending their life savings. What would have made sense though would have been to comp my meal and sides without me having to ask. I didn't ask and therefore it didn't happen. I shouldn't have to ask. We will be back, my 12 year old has always been a fan of the artisanal cheese plate and we stay at the Gaylord often. We will eat there again when we come for ICE! in December. I am sure things will be back to great again.
We were seated promptly and a waiter came over promptly but then the only thing good after that was the lobster bisque soup. The steaks were rare not medium, the aged steak was horrible tasted like rancid. The sides were prepared first it appears and sat waiting for the rest of the food as they were not hot. The desert should have been warm it was cold like they were already prepared and stored so they were not fresh. For a family of five with tip our meal was $500 - NOT WORTH IT AT ALL, A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!!!!!
Better off going to outback a few miles down the road.
I will be speaking to hotel management and corporate as the other 2 restaurants we went to were not up to par by a long shot for what you charge.
This was our second time going to Old Hickory. Both times the steak was delicious. This last visit our steaks were under cooked and had to be returned for additional cooking. We did not like the side dish either time. For our side dish we ordered Mac & cheese. The pasta was under cooked and chewy. The service was excellent, but we will not be returning. Considering the prices they charge the food should be excellent. I’ve had steaks at other restaurants that we re just as good and a third of the price.
We were celebrating a birthday and chose Old Hickory Steakhouse for dinner. The entire Staff we met, from the greeters, seaters, servers, and the general manager, Ben, went above and beyond to make sure everything was special. Our server, Ron, was friendly & attentive, but not hovering. The food was prepared just as we requested and was delicious. The ambiance is awesome. The tables are situated in such a way that you feel you are in an intimate setting, small groups of tables.
We will definitely return to this restaurant and would recommend it highly.
Wait time for food over an hour...well above average but the cavalier attitude of the manager, Stephanie, towards our concerns was a major turnoff for what was supposed to be a high-end experience! Tables sat after us received their steak meals well prior to us receiving our meals (with our only steak being a Med-rare child’s portion)! Will rethink going here in future stays at Gaylord.
Old Hickory Steakhouse is beautiful & cozy where we were seated: out in the atrium under all the lovely trees, greenery & glass ceiling. Our waiter-Brian-was very attentive and because we were celebrating our 55th wedding anniversary, he brought us surprise dessert: your crème brulee' dessert tray with whipped cream on the side. A little chocolate flag - "Happy Anniversary" was stuck in the cream!!! Darling & delicious.
A memorable evening! Thank you.
I never leave reviews and I rarely refer anyone, but I was privelaged enough to find this place because of the hotel we were in and I was absolutely amazed at the level this restaurant was! You do not get a waiter, but a food expert! This is nothing less than an experience that we will not forget. The cost was a bit higher than anything we have done before, but please believe me when I say the experience will blow you away. Our waiter was Cian and he was incredible. You will not be disappointed.
