Old Hickory Steakhouse at the Gaylord Texan Ratings and Reviews
Horrible experience. Not friendly & welcoming at reception for check in, understaffed & no concern for their guest. Had reservation, arrived 10 mins before for it but they had us wait almost an hour for it even though we could see open tables. No apology or nothing. It was horrible. Food was way behind too & just ok.
Surprised my husband for his birthday. We don’t get to get out much due to kids so we were ready for the perfect steak dinner. We should have saved the $150 for our steak and went to Applebee’s for their sirloin as I’m sure it would’ve been better than what we had here. It wasn’t a fluke that our medium steak we ordered came out well done. The young couple next to us were out on their anniversary and their steak wasn’t cooked as they ordered and didn’t have time to wait for them to fix it as they had post dinner obligations. Don’t recommend!!!
Absolutely a wonderful experience for a special occasion. Our server was knowledgable about the menu and helped guide us through the wine list. We both got the Cowboy ribeye medium-rare. I tend to nit pick my steaks, and this was beautifully prepared with the texture was just right. This place can be a pretty penny, but worth every dime. Make sure you have a reservation before you go. Although we went on a Tuesday night, there were more people there than expected. Dress nice, smile, and enjoy!
My wife and I have stayed at the Gaylord Opryland Resort many times and have eaten at the Old Hickory there many times. Not sure if the owner is different from that location but the food at the Gaylord Texan was sub par. Not worth the 3 hour drive when we have great restaurants in Austin in addition to what I can cook myself. Just being honest.
It was good, but not as good as we remember. Really expensive. The beet salad was yummy, the Caesar was too, but way too small for the price. The mushroom risotto was way too salty and they brought us another which wasn’t much better but then took it off the bill. The server -Zeke-was awesome. Knowledgeable and attentive. The manager was friendly and accommodating. The steak was good but, didn’t seem like it was 8 ounces and not spectacular. Really the people and the atmosphere were better than the food for the money spent.
We went there for our wedding anniversary.
We have been there multiple times (even had our wedding reception there a couple years ago). It has lost it's charm. Our server seems like he couldn't be bothered to explain or recommend different dishes. It was the cowboy bone in rib eye that was pushed the most... Also he was not very engaging at all.
The maitre fromagers' response to questions of other cheeses that we have had on previous trips there was "oh, we don't have that, this is it , we have a new chef and this is what we have " . Local cheeses were nice touch, but a little explanation on their characters and pairing would have been helpful (as we have experienced in past visits).
For the money there are plenty of other great steakhouses in DFW where you do get much better service and value.
Food was fine but the service was horrible. Has reservation and waited 15 minutes to be sat. Then 15 minutes to be greeted only with drink menus. Another 15 minutes for him to come back to take drink order then came back with food menu. 15ish minutes came back to take our order. Then we were finished eating and waiting 15isb minutes foe him to come back to offer dessert or ticker. Had to get up and find manager to get our ticket. Manager just said sorry for the wait. Very disappointed with the overall visit.
We went to dinner here while attending a conference on site. We had previously reviewed the menu before making a reservation however, when we were given the menu, they had increased all the menu items substantially! Unbelievable. Nothing on the menu was worthy of the price increase, they were simply taking advantage of the conference goers. Very disappointed!
We were staying at the Gaylord Texan for a conference. We decided to splurge on dinner at the Old Hickory. Before arriving, I checked online to see if we could BYOB, as I had tasted a delicious Texan red blend in downtown Grapevine by Bingham Family Vineyards, and wanted to share it. All I could find online was that there was no corkage fee. So I took a chance, and bought a bottle. We arrived with this bottle, and were informed they do not allow you to bring your own bottle, (therefore... no corkage fee, obviously!) Nowhere on the menu or online did I see this. So that was very disappointing. The waitperson was very nice and made good recommendations. The food was as expected for any high-priced steakhouse. Nothing special, but nicely done. We did enjoy our food and a California merlot off their many-pages-long wine list. There are precious few bottles under $60, just so you know. And, the noise level got very vigorous with a large group nearby. Overall, it was a very nice meal in a well-appointed dining room with excellent service.
This was an exquisite dining experience. The staff were professional, knowledgeable and appeared as though they loved their jobs!! Special kudos to Dave his attention to detail was great!! Reese our server was very knowledgeable and knew the menu and wine list to a tee! The server who served the cheese really knew his business as well! Everyone took great care of us and made us feel quite at home. We have never been to Dallas/Grapevine area before but are looking forward to coming back and joining you all for dinner once again. Great job all! what a great team:)
The food was excellent including the cheese cart with different varieties of cheese to try with assorted nuts and honeycomb. The steaks were excellent and along with the shishito peppers on the side. The waiters were very attentive and the wine list is great. This is an experience not just a meal!!!
My 4 girlfriends and I went to Old Hickory for a friend's birthday. The staff was friendly, engaging and VERY attentive. If they overheard us talking about how much we liked something, another portion appeared on the table. The food was outstanding. The bread was warm, steaks were cooked as requested, side dishes were yummy and our waiter was wonderful, even when my friend spilled a full cocktail right on the table. I didn't know what wine to order, so I told him what I liked and he brought me the perfect pairing for my steak. Everyone at the table enjoyed the meal and was very complimentary. It was pretty pricey, but when you go to a high quality steakhouse in Dallas, it's to be expected and we felt it was worth the price. I will definitely recommend it to my friends.
We came to celebrate our anniversary and had a great time. We shared the burrata and shrimp cocktail. Both were tasty. I had the lamb saddle w/chimichurri and my husband had the filet mignon. His filet was so tender and buttery! Our server Matt was awesome and treated us to an awesome cheesecake dessert in a chocolate bowl. The cocktails were good too!
