Old Fort Pub Ratings and Reviews
This was our third visit since the first of the year to Old Fort Pub. It has become our favorite restaurant in the area. The sunset views, service, and food has always been terrific. I have written about those in other reviews. All that makes this experience all the more disappointing. We returned this week as we had a coupon for a special, $33 for a starter, entree, and dessert. On the coupon it states it is not good on Valentine's Day. We were there on the 15th, but when we presented the coupon we were told it was not being accepted on the 15th, 16th, and 17th as well. We showed the actual ad to the server - she said she would get the manager. Someone returned - not the manager - and stated they were not honoring the ad, but did admit the coupon only stated the 14th being excluded. "It is somewhat misleading, I admit". Only after a long discussion were we given a small discount on the meal. The manager never appeared. As I stated above, the food and service otherwise was great, but the experience still left a bad taste.
I had always heard good reviews of Old Fort Pub, and our visit was prompted by a coupon special. The ambiance is very cozy. Unfortunately, this time of year the sun sets too early to enjoy the view. The menu contains a nice variety of appetizers, salads and entrees -- something for everyone's taste. The entrees are pricey, however, and none of us felt they were exceptional. I don't believe we'll be going back unless we can take advantage of a special.
I love Old Fort Pub. This was the first time I was disappointed in anything I ordered. I tried the Southern Oyster Rockefeller. It was so saturated with pimento cheese and collards I could not taste oyster at all. The sauce on my Mahi Mahi was outstanding, but the Mahi had a fishy taste. Perhaps a bad night as it was restaurant week and very busy? Phenomenal service and my husband's food was delicious.
This elegant restaurant with a beautiful sunset view over Skull Creek never disappoints. Excellent food choices, nice service and varied wine/cocktail menu. Our table all had the winter locals special- 3 courses for $33. Can't beat that excellent deal. Beet salad, Caesar, lamb chops, and squash soup for starters. Dinners- salmon, grouper, and steaks served with risotto, potatoes, mixed vegetables and delicious sauces beautifully presented. Dessert- their famous pecan pie, now a tart, but still very good. We will continue to support this local gem!
We dined here our first evening of our vacation at Hilton Head Island. The restaurant had gotten 4 diamonds in our AAA TourBook. We both enjoyed she crab soup with extra sherry, although there were no chunks of crab. Still, it was very tasty. My husband ordered another appetizer, the skillet "roasted" calamari, which he said was more like a stew than roasted and the calamari rings were small. I ordered the scottish salmon medium rare, and it came out medium and a little dry. Our wine selections were good. Service was slow for a Sunday night, and we were not sure if the kitchen was slow or our server had too many tables.
Wonderful experience from start to finish. Restaurant features numerous tables with a great view of the sunset (although was cloudy on this visit). Taken right at our reservation time, Shane our server was very personable and knowledgeable. Timing was great, food was fantastic. Old Fort Pub has become our favorite in the Hilton head area.
My husband and I went to Old Fort Pub for date night. Everything about this place was wonderful. We both had the New York strip with potatoes and grilled veggies and Perfect Margaritas. The food was great! And the Margaritas were the best I have had on the island! Our server Jennifer was absolutely wonderful! We live in Hilton Head Plantation and plan on making this our go to spot for date nights!!
Love the waterfront view. This is a romantic spot with superior service. The staff is very attentive without being intrusive. The choices on the menu were plentiful with many local specialties available. The pecan pie was the best we've ever had. We are never disappointed with the quality or the experience.
We had such a lovely meal the night before that we came back again the following night, at an earlier time so that we could watch the sunset. It was really worth the drive there again. Good fresh seafood, although we were disappointed not to have the oysters and lobsters again.
Fine dining on Hilton Head Island. Definitely worth the drive to get there. The tables were along the large window so one had great views of the waterfront. Ambience was just right. Very friendly staff, who made us feel very welcome. The oysters were really fresh as was the lobster. The bouillabaisse was so well cooked it was to die for. Will definitely be back as it was the best dinner we have had on the island.
This was a New Years Eve celebration so the menu was fixed price. The Sea Bass was nice but the combination lobster and steak was disappointing for most of our party. The deserts were good but we would have preferred more effort would have been allocated to the entries. Overall the restaurant seems to rely mostly on its history and ambiance to retain its customers, but that may become more difficult in the future if it’s food continues to be unremarkable.
Hadn't been to this restaurant in 10 years. Now I remember why. Food was overpriced and marginal in quality. Sea bass was deep fried! Who does this? 12.50 for a Stoli martini? Calimari was like trying to eat sections of a hose. I will never go here again. $90.00 per person plus drinks and tax. $280.00 for dinner for two with tip. Outrageous!
We live close to 300 miles from Hilton Head Island, but we've been to the Old Fort Pub nearly 20 times in 20 years. We've had great dining experiences all over the world, but can't think of any that compared for an excellent balance of ambiance, view, cuisine and service. Go at sunset if you can, but its a nice experience any time of day.
This is by far the best dining experience we've had since moving to Bluffton over a year ago. We go out to eat at least once a week in Hilton Head, Bluffton, and Beaufort and this is the first time we've been impressed. Truly the only place that we've experienced that lives up to the term, "fine dining." The service was friendly from start to finish, the cocktail and wine list had something for everyone, and the food was seasoned, cooked and plated beautifully.
Was very disappointed in the menu for Christmas Day. Was told one the phone after I reserved that they needed a credit card to secure the reservation. Was also told they would probably serve prime rib. Not. The food was okay, service was pretty good, but after living here for 40+ years, it would not be a place I would recommend. Meh
