Friendly staff, on fishmens wharf which is cool, as for a window seat. Seafood forward menu and overall good food. Decor a little dated but a good first time visit stop to check out.

It was decent food on the wharf in Monterey. Our table was upstairs by a window. We watched otters out the window. The service was very good. The food was fine. It was in no way excellent. My favorite part was that there were no screaming children.

Had a great evening. Had a nice window seat on the water. The food was good and fresh. A bit on the pricey side but good for special occasions when you want a beautiful evening. The clam chowder was great, as was the halibut. Great service and excellent staff.

Fabulous food and they were especially accommodating for my 87 year old Mother from the Boston area. They gave us a very quiet corner (she wears 2 hearing aides) and even gave us an outstanding complementary appetizer, and roses as we left. She was thrilled - it was a lovely evening.

Wonderful as usual. We come to Old Fisherman’s Grotto every time we’re in Monterey. We look forward to Chris greeting us at the door, and the rest of the staff giving us excellent service. The food never disappoints either! Whether it’s something simple like a cup of clam chowder and the Sand Dabs, or something more impressive like the Treasure of the Sea, we’ve always left full, and glad to know there’s such a great place to come back to year after year.

We had clam chowder and abalone which were outstanding. Exceptional service. Didn't expect to have a fine dining experience on the Monterey Wharf. Will be returning to this nice destination.

The mussels were tasty and spicy, it was delicious. To our surprise, we were given a complimentary Chef's choice sampler which had 2 grilled prawns, fried calamari and artichokes. My grilled scallops were nice and juicy as well as what my husband ordered - crab louie salad, tons of fresh, sweet fruits.

My wife and I ate here after a long drive from Santa Monica and were glad for the warm welcome and warm bread. We ordered the clam chowder with garlic roasted bread and it was delicious, however it was huge as a starter. We wished that we had just ordered it for our entree. The waiter did not wait until we had finished before bringing our entrees of surf and turf. So we very awkwardly had to swap plates although we were not finished. The surf and turf was also delicious but it was too much from such a heavy starter, I feel the waiter should have advised us. I would definitely recommend this restaurant but I would advice on the large clam chowder, which was a great choice. I feel the waiting staff have sadly stepped over the line of efficient service and making the customer feel as though they are being rushed out.

We had a wonderful "locals" and birthday dinner. We had a wonderful dinner. We were given a great complimentary appetizer. Then we had salad and soup. Hot bread was brought and it was delicious. Then our wonderful meal arrived and we had chicken picatta and salmon and it was also very delicious. Then if that wasn't enough we also had a dessert. It was also delicious and we had leftovers for the next day. Especially loved the red rose given to me at the end of our wonderful evening.

Food was excellent, service was stellar. Local residents especially, are treated like royalty. The only complaint, and it is not the fault of the restaurant, is that it will probably cost to park and I a pet peeve of mine is having to pay to park. Two hours are free for locals but generally, it takes more than 2 hours if you relax and enjoy your meal. If you skip a before dinner drink, you can probably make the 2 hour time limit.

By far the most professional and outstanding service I have ever had from any restaurant. The owner even made sure to stop by everyones tables to check on your service. Beyond having a lounge with a nice bar to wait in before being seated, the complementary starters were a nice touch. Being a seafood establishment, it was nice to see a second menu for the freshest items that had arrived within the past 3 hours, although everything has arrived within the past 8 hours or sooner. Lastly, the keylime pie from their deserts was likely the best pastry I have had from any desert menu.

We were celebrating our anniversary and had requested a window table. Upon our arrival we were seated promptly and noted the special table decorating touches and candle recognizing our special occasion. Our server, Janeatte, promptly congratulated us on our anniversary, took our wine order and discussed the menu options. Once we'd ordered, we enjoyed a pair of sea otters right below our window and shared memories of our wedding. The crab cake appetizer was delicious as was the Captain's Plate paired with a delightful Cabernet. Since we were quite satisfied, we were surprised when Janeatte delivered a artfully presented cheesecake for our anniversary! It seemed too beautiful to actually eat -- my wife took several photos -- but we bravely consumed every delicious bit!

We've always enjoyed our dining experiences here and this was no exception. Our booth was almost private with a perfect view, and quiet enough for comfortable conversation. Janeatte was cordial, attentive without being intrusive, efficient and perfectly delightful. At the end of our meal, the owner stopped by our table to congratulate us and to make sure everything had been to our liking. This is a quality establishment with seasoned, friendly kitchen and wait personnel -- some have been there for thirty years -- great food, a warm ambiance and an impressive view. We can't recommend it enough!

Excellent service our waitress was spot on when to come to the table and when not to. The drinks appetizers and meal courses were brought out with good timing between them. Management gave our table of 4 a free appetizer which in itself was really good. Staff was accommodating on special request. All in all a really good place to go right on the wharf in Monterey with a good scenery, friendly and efficient staff and good food!

Definitely a place we'll go back to.

Our server was excellent and guided us through the menu and made many suggestions. We ordered the grilled artichoke appetizer and got a bonus from the chef of a few delicious large prawns and some calamari which was excellent. The clam chowder is very decedent, rich and delicious. Abalone was very good. The Cheesecake and bread pudding were both great. I highly recommend this restaurant as they are very consistent and the food is outstanding. Great ambiance also for a tourist area. Will come back soon.

We had a wonderful experience from beginning to end. As requested, we had a window table. Our server was enthusiastic and gave us prompt attention without being overbearing. We told him we wanted to relax and enjoy a slow dining experince. We ordred a second cocktail, and he brought out a complimentary appetizer tray. We had viewed a couple of special appetizers, so ordered them as well. The entrees were delicious, and we enjoyed the meal with a nice
bottle of Rombauer chardonnay, a favorite of mine. A nice finish to a fabulous evening was when the server brought out a beautiful long-stemmed rose. We especially like the restaurant's policy on small children. Nothing can spoil an evening more than having a screaming child nearby.
