The food was exceptional and reasonably priced. The service was the best I have encountered in a very long time. The best dining experience.
Thank you for taking care of our holiday lunch.
The historic landmark is a hustling bustling place but was still seated in a timely manner. The water came quickly with a loaf of warm bread. I had the crab cakes with mostly lump crab and hardly any filler. It was served with fries. My husband had the hanger steak and it was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Loved the ambience and festive feel.
Great atmosphere, exceptional food, top notch service. I highly recommend the Pan-Seared Day Boat Scallops and obviously, oysters.
Food was fabulous;server Jovan made several wonderful food suggestions; she was so kind and friendly.
The environment was cozy. Perfect way to end our weekend
Very busy, but we were seated quickly despite being early for our reservation. Good food and service, in a nice, cozy setting. Very close to the White House- overall a very nice evening out.
Great place to go to with friends to celebrate the holidays!
Amazing Oysters Rockefeller and the services is always stellar! Dinner and seeing the Christmas Trees at the Whitehouse afterward is a long-standing family holiday tradition.
Some of the waiters just seemed so unhappy and therefore rude and my friends and I were not please with this.
the food was terrific! wait staff very friendly ...only negative feedback valet service, it was fine for me,,,but they throw all the keys in a drawer, people come up and get all excited about needing their car Right away...poor girl was doing the best she could but the customers were being unreasonable ....I think if the keys were organized so the customers could see someone find their key with ease, they would be more relaxed..
It’s so sad, this used to be such a marvelous restaurant but now it’s really just a tourist trap, catering to those that want to be close to the White House. Three entrées, three drinks and two dozen oysters cost us $220.
Very good Service
Great place for a pre show meal. Good service, the noise level is high due to the fact that it is full. You need reservations unless you like to wait. The staff is very friendly and flexible. The morning of our reservation we ran into a couple, I called and they changed our reservation with no problem.
Great spot for the holidays. Festive decorations. Food was great.
Excellent food and excellent service! Definitely going back with my out of towners!
As my daughter says: it was amazing. My only complaint is that we couldn't linger, because it was so crowded and the wait staff kept hovering although we weren't quite finished.
Seating was tight. I could reach to both sides and touch the other tables. Too cramped in. Food was excellent!
We went early for brunch. It wasnt busy and they wanted to seat us right next to another couple, no private conversations to be had. They did move us but all the seats filled up within a 1/2 hr by 10am it was full. Limited menu for brunch. We were not offered the lunch menu. Both our meals were luke warm when they were served but they were tasty. The corn beef hash and crabcake bennie were very good.
As usual, Old Ebbitt Grill was a great place for a dinner date. Food and service were very good and despite the crowd, I was still able to have a pleasant conversation with my husband. If you plan on dining here, reservations are a MUST. Wait time without reservations exceeds an hour most nights. My only complaint is that the lobby area gets very crowded while people are waiting and can kill the fine dining vibe that the rest of the restaurant pulls off so effortlessly.
Amazing Night! Food and service was fantastic! Definitely will return.
Just an awesome experience...
No bar seats available but that’s ok.....
We had reservations....
One tiny issue.... we arrived at 3:20 for our 3:45 reservation. Informed the hostess we were there. We walked to the very crowded bar, got one seat, ordered a drink. After 3:45 came and left, I walked to her and asked “ did I miss u calling me....?”
Ashe said she did call me but I must have not heard her. No problem..... we were seated finally at 4:30.... but I guess that’s ok...
I think the system to call for guests is lame ... a gentle speaker would be better. How many other guests were called and did not hear because the at was loud? My only complaint .... other than that? Great time !
I love this place. It has gas lamps. Plus, the food and service are good, the drinks too. That said, on the weekends, it’s LOUD! It’s also pretty popular, so it’s very crowded. We go anyway because we like the decor and the ambiance, and overall, we are happy with each meal. If I were the chef, I would, however, leave all the peppers out of the calamari. They don’t add anything, and no one at our table ate them.
Very good food, lots of good options. Dirty Martini was very good mix! Service was awesome
The oysters were delicious! The waiter was friendly and helpful. It was a crowded night but we had excellent service in our booth. The scallops were prepared to perfection! An enjoyable evening out during the busy holiday season.
It's our Annual Tradition to go to Old Ebbitt's and then over to see the National Christmas tree! It's always a great night of family fun and great food!
Service was outstanding. Food was good. Very loud.
The food is terrible and I have no idea why anyone would eat there
Very nice place. I do not want to write 50 characters. You should not require this, this will be the last review I submit
Great service great food great atmosphere
Dinner with parents.
On Friday evening, December 14, 2018, we surprised my Momma with a wonderful dinner at the Old Ebbitt Grill! The restaurant looked so very festive starting with the huge toy soldiers/nutcrackers greeting us at the front door. Everything, and I mean everything, was delicious!! Even our cocktails (Grey Goose Cosmo, Beefeater Martini & Maker’s Mark Old Fashion) were perfectly crafted. Don’t even get me started on the selection of raw oysters. Wow! They were amazing, and half price since we were dining at 5:00pm! As you can imagine, our entrées were perfectly prepared and we all agreed that we would order our individual meals again. Lastly, I have to mention our fun and charming server, Chris. He was soooo nice to my Momma, and made our entire dinning experience just perfect!!
Our waiter was fabulous! Very personabke, knowledgable, honest.
I’ve been many times over many yesrs. He is the best!
His name was Anthony.
The food was delicious and my party of 8 was overall happy. Only issue: our reservation was for 1:30 p.m, we arrived at 1:20 p.m. but weren't seated until 2:10 p.m. :-(
We had a wonderful dinner. I have never tried the trout before and it was spectacular. We also tried the swordfish which was excellent as well as the shrimp po’ boy. We had good competent service. Our table was well situated out of the busy path of the restaurant which I liked because the place is always so busy.
Great experience on our first visit!
My family and I have a tradition of going to see the national Christmas tree and eating at Old Ebbit. It’s my favorite tradition! This was my boyfriends first time joining and he said “that wasn’t a meal - it was a culinary experience” and I couldn’t agree more. Every single thing was delicious and the staff was incredible. Thank you!
Visit to DC
Great place! Wonderful food and service!
A Washington institution, Old Ebbitts always seems to be crowded. The food is very good as is the service. It can get noisy though especially since it gets so crowded. Definitely make a reservation unless you want to take a chance that you'll be able to get a seat at one of the bars. Dark food, dark booths, with paintings of hunting scenes and duck decoys on the ceiling. The clam chowder is very, very good. We also liked seafood chowder which seems more like a cioppino since it's in a tomato based broth with lots of seafood piled on top. Use the freshly baked bread to sop up the broth. The bread is baked fresh and is delivered twice a day from their bakery a few doors away. The scallops were very, very good too as was the hangar steak. The hangar steak was unusually thick and a fairly generous portion at 8 oz and comes with mashed potato and spinach. They used to have the most amazing egg nog made to order that used to be available only around the Christmas holidays. We ordered them a couple of years in a row but it's been a few years since we've been to Old Ebbitts. This time when we asked for it nobody knew what we were talking about. We asked our server and another server as well. I guess the bartender that used to make it is no longer there or maybe it was too time consuming to make but it was the best egg nog we ever had and you could get it with or without alcohol. It's too bad they don't have it anymore.
I always enjoy going to The Ebbit. Great ambiance, great food, great service...I specifically take visitors there as they enjoy the proximity to the White House as well as the history the place holds.
