It was great food with great service
There were eight of us. Everyone enjoyed the food, but we seemed to be rushed to leave. We were also stuck waaaay in the back. Not sure why.
Great place to eat with friends! Food is spectacular!
Highly recommend. Truly a historic restaurant. Food good, service great!
Not too many veggie options here. So I had the quinoa dish. Unfortunately, I was still hungry after paying $17 at lunch for a portion of cauliflower with three little pieces of squash, a bit of chopped greenery, and a teeny bit of quinoa. I expected more quinoa than what was on the plate. The dish tasted good, but was too small of a portion. Come on, I eat veggie dishes at restaurants all the time and am not left with low blood sugar. This was unacceptable.
Been to Ebbitt’s a few times over the years. Great location, friendly and efficient staff, however, the tables are too close for conversation. The food was good but the sandwich just fell apart.
Second time I have eaten at Ebbitts and just as good as the first! Took my family and they enjoyed it immensely! Couldn’t have asked for a better place!
Only problem was we were seated next to a service island and it pretty much ruined the experience side. Waiters for other tables literally hovered over us the entire meal
I would not eat here again if we were forced to endure that situation.
Always outstanding food, service and ambiance. My “go-to” readtautant in Wash DC for any occasion!
Ebbett’s never fails to impress. If you enjoy oysters this is the place for you. My favorite is the oyster stew. A nice atmosphere and good food keeps us coming back.
This was our second visit to Old Ebbitt. We had such a great experience the first time that we decided to return here when visiting DC. The German food that we ordered was OK, but a bit bland for Schnitzel. Also the New England Clam Chowder that I had tasted much more like cream of potato soup than clam chowder. And because we got there around 2:00, just as the lunch crowd was finishing up, the serving staff were a bit slow. Last time, this place rocked, a solid A++. This time, it was a solid B experience. I would return here again just because I know they have great food. If you manage to get the German sausage special, it is awesome! But I'd recommend something other than the Shnitzel.
Great food, but service and food delivery time were lacking.
I HAVE BEEN GOING TO THE OLDE EBBIT FOR YEARS AND I JUST THINK IT IS THE BEST PLACE TO GO TO.
THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE HAS NEVER DISAPPOINTED ME EVER. OUR SERVER (NICK) WAS TOP SHELF AS WAS THE FOOD.
It’s always a must to have at least one meal at The Old Ebbitt Grill, we visit DC. We brought our daughter, who is a museum curator, for Sunday brunch & she fell in love with it. Looking forward to having a meal there in the future.
Recently visited and had a fabulous time. Food, decor, ambiance and service were all excellent. I highly recommend the oysters Rockefeller - so good! Our server, Jade, was the absolute best! She made us feel special and had a warm and wonderful personality - request her!! Can’t wait to go back.
This place was absolutely delicious. All the food came out hot & presented very nicely! Tasted better than it looked too! Service was great.
A friend who's lived in and around DC for years recommended Old Ebbitt's as the place she always likes to take visitors. Unfortunately, she was out of town when we visited, but we took her recommendation and are very glad we did. Food, service and atmosphere were great. We will definitely recommend to others and will definitely go back next time we're in the capitol.
We went here for my daughters birthday and we had a amazing time. The food is always great and the service is very good.
Fantastic food and atmosphere! We went with our kids and they loved the crab cakes and shrimp.
This restaurant was recommended to us and it was fabulous. The atmosphere and food were wonderful. We will definitely go again when back in DC and strongly encourage others to visit.
Great food, good value. Server was less than attentive, had to ask for drink refills and did not check on us during the meal until it was obvious we were done. Otherwise would have given overall rating 5 stars.
This restaurant was highly recommended by several friends that had visited DC recently. The restaurant smelled. We understood there is a raw bar, but it smelled. We live in Miami where raw bars are common..never have we smelled this. The service was excellent, waiter was down to earth and friendly. The restaurant was packed to the brim on a Friday night, the food was mediocre. I was excited to try the clam chowder. Well, I regretted it. I had stomach cramps the rest of the night. My husband had the fried shrimp with fries. The shrimp was bland. The scallops I ordered were chewy.
Wish we would've enjoyed it.
Try Ted's Bulletin instead.
Food and service at the table was excellent. Actually getting to the table was more of the issue. Was disappointed that we were kept waiting close to 20 min past our reservation time, as we watched party after party who arrived after us being seated. Checking with the hostess stand multiple times did not seem to have much of an effect.
My first time in DC and Old Ebbitt was recommended as a must, and I was not disappointed. Exceeded my expectations!
Old Ebbitt Grill is a fingerprint of Washington DC. Next to the White House, the ambiance of history whispers to you through the menu consisting of locally supplied ingredients, deliciously prepared and an experience for the palate. A hack? Always make a reservation and you will never be disappointed with this always bustling establishment.
My family has regularly enjoyed the Old Ebbitt Grill for many years so I was disappointed the restaurant has recently changed its recipe for the fried oyster stew. While I do love a good gumbo I think Old Ebbitt should offer gumbo as well as its classic Chesapeake style oyster stew. Also, the kitchen needs to pay attention to special orders. One person at our table ordered the brussels sprouts instead of french fries and received french fries.
The main dining room had a strong odor like fried fish. Fortunately, the odor did not permeate the wing where we were seated or we would have had to leave.
We had a crowded drink at the bar, enjoying the Roosevelt trophy wall and people who looked to be politicos mingling and making deals. Drinks were great, apps were delicious. We were seated in the atrium, which was much more quiet and enjoyed a great meal of fresh salads, Cuban sandwiches and great service.
overall it was good, but we the overflow seating in the hotel lobby was just odd and not what we were expecting. good food and service and inside is very neat and historic and romantic...but the back seating in the connecting hotel lobby is just weird, noisy and was kind of disappointing.
Great food but very noisy👍
Reservations not honored. Noise level high, food just ok and poor value..
Atmosphere for history buffs is great, don’t hesitate to ask for staff to point out artifacts. The highlight of our meal was the fennel salad although not entrees were excellent. Apple crisp another must. I don’t know if this is typical for a Thursday night but with a 7pm reservation we waited 30 minutes for a table. Rating would have be higher if we hadn’t stood for 30 minutes after a day of walking all over the city.
Ebbitts never disappoints- crab cakes great; oysters were a treat
The place is ideally located next to the White House. The ambiance is nice. The food menu could have been more diverse. It seemed to be limited somehow. In October, one would expect pumpkin soup somewhere on the menu, but unfortunately it wasnt. Overall a nice experience. Just a tiny bit loud.
Way too cramped, tables to small, people on top of each other, no privacy, way too loud... go to Joe’s seafood around the corner, much better in every way
Outstanding service and it’s a local institution. Won’t be the best meal one eats in DC, but the value proposition outweighs that. I had grilled cauliflower and it was good. Others in party had burger and chicken items. Main portions were very good, but sides like fries left something to be desired.
Not a disappointment at all, but don’t expect this to compare with high-end eateries. It’s a fun atmosphere, albeit a little noisy. Seems busy all the time, so it remains popular with locals and visitors alike. I would go again.
We selected this restaurant based on many recommendations and it was an excellent choice. It was very busy, but the staff were outstanding. The food was delicious as well as the wine. Would eat here again and will recommend to others.
This spot was great. Food was delicious and on time. The cocktails we're on point. Service was attentive and the room has some great history and design.
Beautiful restaurant. We are traveling and we were not prepared for the amount of traffic...we were 15 minutes late and the hostess was incredibly gracious. The service was perfect. We were all 4 very pleased with our meal selections. The creme brûlée was one of the best we have had. You should definitely eat here!
Great food and drink
Excellent!! Great ambiance, excellent food, and excellent service!! Will definitely return!!!
