My girlfriend and I were in DC for the weekend. The Old Ebbit is the quintessential DC restaurant. Elegant, robust, & and powerful. Everything about this restaurant screams superior. Whether you’re a tourist or a West Wing regular, this is a the spot, for any occasion. Enjoy!
Amazing service and wonderful food!
Absolutely! I've lived in DC for a few years now and always bring out of town guests here. Very quintessential DC, historical space (one of the oldest saloons), and most importantly, food and service are consistently excellent.
Birthday Celebration. A favorite DC spot. Service was extremely slow. We had a wait server change after ordering beverages so it took 30 minutes to get drinks. Appetizers were slow to follow. Our main course also arrived very slowly. Could have used another round of drinks but server seemed overwhelmed.
Excellent food, service and ambience. Highly recommend the crab and artic dip, oysters, steak and sausage ragu. Havana cocktail was delicious.
Wait staff, for some reason, did not assist us upon entry. We could see at least three people at the front of the section talking for quite some time and assisting others before assisting us. It was very annoying.
My rockfish had scales on it.
Weird for a signature dish.
The manager did apologize, and the service was otherwise exceptional.
Spitting out scales, though.
I wish that I ordered the trout.
They were very accommodating when we got there much earlier than our rez. Great food, beautiful place, great time had by all.
Excellent as always. One of our favorite restaurants to visit when in town
It is practically a landmark in DC...definitiately a tourist distination as will as that of locals. Make a reservation a few days in advance and ask for a booth. The restaurant is across from the Treasury Building and is close to the White House and the Renwick Art Gallery (a Smithsonian Museum). Ambiance is very good as is the food. Fun to drink and eat at the bar. Good oysters and chili. Noted for their hot fudge sundies.
Food was very good (I got the crab cakes and hubby got the salmon). The service was excellent!
Delicious steak frites and lamb stew is out of this world. Calamari gets the chef’s kiss. Very comfortable booths where noise is dampened.
Great service and food for reasonable price.
Staff was great - our waitress delightful and ready with good suggestions.
We always have a wonderful experience when we dine at Old Ebbitt, even during the pandemic. we were seated in the side room and booths are spread out, so that was nice. Oysters are always on point.
Great place for a happy hour - take advantage of the happy hour oysters 3-5pm!
The service was slow but we were not in a rush so that was okay. What was not okay was the my dish was so salty I could barely eat it. Very disappointing
great food good location very authentic ascetically appealing
Back in DC for an annual conference and always plan a meal at Old Ebbitt. Best oysters around! This was my grandad’s watering hole during and after he retired from the Navy. Thanks to Alwyn for the amazing service.
Old Ebbitt is a must stop every time I'm in DC. It never disappoints!
You can’t go wrong here. Many choices to choose from. The crab and artichoke dip is a must. We had the steak, lamb stew and the crab cake. They were all excellent.
We had a wonderful time! Food was excellent, we missed the happy hour but still thoroughly enjoyed the raw bar......wasn't sure what kind of clams were on our raw platter. They were very good and very tiny, which I'd never seen such tiny clams...the raw bar platters are simply delicious and very enjoyable...we also had the Trout Parmesan was delicious....as was the Spicy Sausage Garganelli, extremely good.......One note, 2 of us ordered the Rockfish entrees and loved it. However, they were 2 different sizes...one was much smaller than the other (my husbands). No one said anything but I did feel bad that the 2 compared to each other one was definitely larger....just a note for the servers and the kitchen when sending the same dish to 2 ppl at the same table, they should look similar in size...that moment when your food comes out for a special occasion....we don't want to feel like we are complaining one is bigger than the other, how embarrassing would that be..... Other than that everything was wonderful and the service was great, drinks and food were all delicious and well be back again soon:)
Reliably delightful experience. I have been a Washingtonian for 68 years and reach for Old Ebbitt Grill when I want a tried and true, excellent evening.
Good and service were excellent.
Have been in almost 20 yrs. It was great! I’ll be making it our regular before show reservation from now on.
Went there after Kennedy Center afternoon matinee. Jade provided excellent service and menu recommendations. Always one of our favorite places to dine.
The BEST oysters in town. Any pallet would rejoice at Old Ebbitt Grill. Amazing service, and an optimal location steps from the White House. It's about the food, but also an experience.
Nice ambiance and service and uninspiring food. Dry calamari appetizer, overspiced and overcooked shrimp and grits. Last time shrimp and grits were good, this time not nearly as good.
I ordered the Trout Parmesan which was fair as it could have used more hollandaise sauce and my friend ordered the Crab Cakes which were good.
One of the best restaurants in the US
My husband and I came after hearing incredible reviews.
The restaurant is decorated phenomenally and their velvet booths are very cute.
We ordered Clydes Chili, Clam Chowder, Steak Frites and Chicken fettuccini. The steak was great, but the fettuccini was overpowered by the mushroom sauce and abundance of mushrooms. I feel like this dish should be called “mushroom and chicken pasta”. I definitely did not enjoy the fettuccini as I had hoped, neither the chili. They use an odd seasoning for the chili, and way too much meat for my liking but my husband really enjoyed the clam chowder and the steak frites. Our server was nice, but did not visit our table very often.
As locals. I don’t think we will visit again, but glad we came for a “traditional” DC experience.
Great from start to finish. Delicious apps. Mussels and oyster platter were awesome. Salmon and rockfish dinners were amazing as well as crab cakes and salmon salad. Finished with delicious dessert and coffee. Definitely will be back.
This was our very first time attending Old Ebbitt Grill. My husband and I were very pleased with the food, our waiter and the overall atmosphere. Old Ebbitt Grill was recommended by our kids. Yes, we would attend again.
The food was good and service was good. Place seemed to be busy as usual.
You’d expect what some consider a tourist stop to have mediocre food and standard service, but that’s not necessarily the case with Old Ebbitt Grill. From the greetings by the host to the food service and the spectacular, delicious food and cocktails, everything this day was perfect.
Great evening all around. I Will definitely return.
Comida americana muy rica y con muy buena atención en un lugar muy confortable.
Loved the service and enjoyed the food.
Very ambient and nice atmosphere. The bar table had a good vibe with a great selection of drinks. The servers were attentive and given the price tag, the food in general was great. The spicy sausage pasta in particular was exquisite.
