Highly recommend reservations. We had them and we were seated immediately at our reservation time. The front are is busier/nosier, so if you are hard of hearing like I am ask for the back room which was quieter. The food was phenomenal from the child’s burger to our steaks. The staff was courteous and even charged my dead cell phone for me after a long, busy day of sightseeing.

We sat in the Grant Room and BK was our waiter. We started with a peach bourbon sangria, which was wonderful. We shared a dozen assorted Potomac oysters, which were like silk. My husband enjoyed his huge crabcake and my meatloaf did not disappoint. Portions were very generous & prices were reasonable. We enjoyed walking around the restaurant and viewing the gas chandeliers, oyster bar, and main bar – it’s a beautiful restaurant.

Service is still excellent at this go to eatery. We were seated early for our noon reservation and greeted with , happy anniversary, from maitre d’ and staff to our server. Nice touch. I had my usual eggs Chesapeake and the eggs unfortunately I have to say that they were a bit under poached. My wife had the salmon with lentils and grilled cabbage. She enjoyed the salmon but didn’t think the cabbage belonged with the dish. My great nephew had the French dip and loved it. It is a hot spot on Capitol Hill so it can be a bit noisy but the interior is beautiful and very cozy.

Historic atmosphere just steps away from The White House. Food was delicious and waiter was friendly and responsive. Salted Carmel Bread Pudding is a must!

Beware Old Ebbitt taking your reservation and then seating you in a place that is 100% unlike the rest of Old Ebbitt and 100% like any cheap office complex atrium. We had a reservation made far in advance to host my mom and a coupe of friends. I was surprised when the host led us through the entire restaurant—past many, many open tables—to a table entirely outside of Old Ebbitt restaurant. It was in the lobby/atrium of an office complex. Had no idea it existed or was part of Old Ebbitt. Nothing about the decor is like the rest of Old Ebbitt. Even the music was different (loud 80s rock). It took me a moment to realize what was happening, and by then we were seated. I decided not to make a fuss, get everyone up, and try to find a table inside the restaurant. Old Ebbitt should warn customers that they have perhaps 15 tables that are 100% unlike Old Ebbitt and 100% like any cheap office/hotel brunch. The seating underscored the downside of Old Ebbitt - the food-to-price value. They gave my mom what looked like five potato wedges total. The chicken in my chicken and waffles was 3x over-salted, mostly skin, and not worth eating. Our main server was solid. The staff that brought out the meals literally left the plate in my fiancee's hand because there was no place on the table to set it and they made no effort to help. No, we had not ordered appetizers or multiple drinks. We each had one coffee. They just left five extra empty side plates sitting on the table and made no effort to clear or move items for us. I had to reset the table so my fiancee had a place for her (one) plate. Boo.
