The food was great. Good options on the kids menu. Prices very reasonable. Ambiance and history of the place fabulous. Highly recommend reservations.
Went here on St. Patrick's Day, which, needless to say, was a very busy night. The only reservation we could get was for much later in the night. We took it, and even though it was very busy, the very kind hostess did seat us a littler earlier than our reservation time. The "winter salad" did not seem to have the same ingredients that were on the menu, but it was, nevertheless, very good. The crabcake was outstanding. I would definitely go back!
What a hoot! We were there for St. Patrick's Day dinner, and although the only reservations left a week in advance were at 4:15 and 10:00, we had a great time (at 4:15). The Russian Clove was such a great drink - people were asking me what it was as I walked from the bar to our table - beautiful and tasty, too! The dinner was superb, and our server was courteous, attentive, and incredibly personable. We enjoyed conversation with the people sitting next to us, and we especially enjoyed the live bagpipes - What a great way to celebrate the holiday!
Brunch was amazing. The food came fast for how busy they were.
Great food and ambiance
Service -even while very busy - was fantastic
We were seated immediately with a reservation. Loved the interior, yet I would have liked to sit in the main restaurant. There was plenty of seating available but we were seated out back which seemed like an office lobby seating. The waiter was not very friendly but the service was good and the food was amazing! Would definitely eat there again when visiting DC.
Great dining experience. Food was great
Service was on point. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Food was good, but a little on the salty side. Good price for what we got. Was disappointed to be seated in what seamed to be the overflow area instead of the main restaurant (which is what we were looking forward to). The overflow area lacked the charm of the rest of the restaurant and felt like we were sitting in a hotel lobby.
My family and I went on the recommendation of another family member. The service was exceptional from the initial greeting to the end of the meal and everything in between. We were very happy with everything from the seafood to the steaks to the burger to the poutine. Although i only drink bourbon/whiskey, between us , we had mixed drinks, wine and bourbon. Excellent selections to say the least!!! Quality and value are taken seriously and with pride in everything . Loved it we did and will be back when we visit DC again.
The food and service were very good, but what made it memorable for us was the ambiance. The original restaurant is very old (1856, I think?), but there is a much newer section in the back that would not offer the same experience, in my opinion. If possible, I would request a table in the older part of the restaurant.
Very energetic restaurant near the White House. Food has choices from the area like scallops, fish and oysters. They have oysters on a happy hour LATE night special which is fun. Great place to get the vibe of the city.
The clam chowder and scallop entree were excellent. The kid's menu was fine for my son and he really enjoyed his chicken tenders :-)
We ate here on our last night in dc and were delighted. The atmosphere was great, really buzzing. Service was good,as was the food and price. Would go there every night if I could.
Fantastic foods, drinks, and service!
The food was delicious, the service was impeccable and my only tip for folks who wish to dine here...be prepared for a noisy atmosphere.
Excellent service, delicious food and relaxing environment. Old Ebbitt remains my #1 favorite choice!
Went twice during our week in Washington - Sunday evening and had oysters on the half shell, a most delicious melt in your mouth Filet.
Classic. Perfect every time!
Honored reservation on time, even though very busy.
The lighted buzzer when table is ready is very “food chain”” ish
A little noisy but evrything is great. I can recommend this restaurant beacuse of good food with very reasonable price and kind service as well as good location. However please make a reservation in advance.
Awesome. It’s a great place to relax enjoy fellowship and good food.
Great prices, right by the White House. This is a mainstay for us every time we come to DC
We were visiting DC from Texas. I had eaten at Old Ebbitt’s in the past but wanted to introduce it to my husband and daughter. Everything was great! Service, food etc. highly recommend the crab cakes and clam chowder !
Loved Old Ebbitts Grill! We had late lunch/early dinner at 4pm. Great food! Great service! We had a party of 8, made reservation...got right in no problems! So much to choose from, couldn’t decide what to get! Definitely worth a try.
Decent food, nothing to brag about. There is definitely a certain charm to the place in it's look and feel and location. Really wanted some great crab cakes but I've had better elsewhere. Burgers and sandwiches are good.
It was good
Sat at the bar as the wait was lengthy. Had the scallops and the apple crisp for dessert. Would highly recommend both. Was in town for a conference and always try to come here for a meal. A little pricey but well worth it. Steaks are mouth watering but decided to try something different. Love the history of this place. Wait staff friendly and attentive. It's a very popular restaurant and a landmark. Will visit again when I'm in town. Five stars.
We came with small kids and to accommodate our larger group we were seated in the Atrium. We've eaten here before and had a wonderful time but sitting out there felt like an entirely different restaurant. I would not recommend for families or larger parties.
Very neat place with a very old-time elegance feel to it. Service was good but food was rather pricey for what you get. If I'm paying $15 for oysters Rockefeller I expect to get a half dozen, not four. Overall we enjoyed the experience and food but just a little pricey for what you get.
I rarely get to go to Old Ebbitt for breakfast during the week - so when I get the chance, it's a must go-to. Food and service were excellent. Thank you!
Seafood is excellent, especially crab cakes and siracha shrimps!!
Desert disappointing, cheesecake was very dense, so was the flourless chocolate Cake.
Just so-so. Not impressed with our steak but being from Texas, we are used to good steak. Portions were smaller than expected. Peanut butter pie was good but still frozen so hard to get a spoon or fork through. Service was good. Just disappointed - expected more from reading previous reviews
We were visiting DC from out of town, for my son's spring break. We often come to DC, and have been to the Old Ebbitt Grill many times for drinks and lunch or dinner. We made our reservation for this past Tuesday (3/13), two weeks earlier on March 1 through OpenTable. On Tuesday we checked in early (4:45) for our 5:15 seating. We waited in the main bar section for our table. Twice we checked back in and both times it seemed the two girls at the front didn't care or were very confused - they didn't have our name or a table for us. At 5:45, they led us around the restaurant looking for a table. We walked by four empty tables in the main section, set with table cloths. Then they finally sat us at a table in the bar section, that is to the left of the main entrance - no table cloths in that section. We ordered, and after several inquiries, we were served at 6:30.
This was not the experience we have had previously had at the Old Ebbitts Grill. The food was good, but the overall service from check in to food service was not at all up to expectations - it felt like going to Applebee's. I would only come back to Old Ebbitts Grill for cocktails and food at the bar. I can only hope that next time back, overall service improves.
We had breakfast before our White House, this is the place everyone tells you to go to when you come to DC. It was fine.
I was visiting Washington and stayed at the W Hotel. My girlfriend works on DC and lives in Maryland drove pass the restaurant and recommended we visit
I made a reservation for 9:15 pm as that was the earliest I could get a table but when I came over an hour early the hostess was gracious enough to seat me.
I loved my meal, the Walter Special. I would recommend this spot to all my friends in Philadelphia.
Food was fabulous! Had clam chowder (with bacon!) as an appetizer - steaming hot and packed with clams. Crab cakes were great as was the blackened catfish (we shared). Also shared the
Blondie sundae for dessert, which was huge and delicious. The ambiance is as good as the food - classic old DC. Service too was great. Would definitely recommend.
Sitting in the Atrium felt like you were a displaced customer. We went for the food and atmosphere. Food was good but no ambiance.
Great spot so close to the monument trail in DC. Great atmosphere and so many cool spots to sit and dine. Bars looked great but we had a larger party so sat at table. Food was excellent and fresh. Service was good, we must have hit shift change toward end of our meal because we seemed to be forgotten about until we flagged a new person down. I would definitely return.
