Our rating: ambience excellent, food very good (I liked my salad a lot, and my boyfriend said his burger was good but unexceptional), service VERY unimpressive. Waiter was brusque, messed up multiple aspects of our fairly simple order, and then disappeared -- a different person brought our food to the table, and our waiter didn't come back until we were finished eating. It took multiple attempts to flag down another waiter for a refill of our water glasses, but we saw our waiter paying lots of attention to the parties on either side of us in the meantime. It felt like his whole demeanor changed when he first approached the table and we turned down alcohol and gave him our order immediately -- like he wrote us off as a small check then and there. Too bad our impression of an otherwise lovely place had to be affected by him.
Food was phenomenal. Service a little slow but the atmosphere was so lovely we didn’t mind. Our server was great!
The restaurant was good u definitely need a reservation which Open Table helped out a great deal because the phone was not going to work.
I ordered the Ruben and added Pastrami and the cook charged me $10 for the the Pastrami which was ridiculous. So if you try to add to your meal they will loot your wallet.
Always good.....a Washington landmark. Good for all occasions
The food was good but not great. They sat us outside the main dining area, where we were in the courtyard of an office building. The server was pleasant but not particularly attentive, though that may have been because of restaurant week. Overall fine, might come back to give it another shot, but nothing to write home about.
Visiting from out of state and a family member told us about the place
Was put in the overflow area although I had made a reservation plenty early. Also served a beer in a broken glass.
Service is horrible. They treated us as if they were doing us a favour from the beginning. They brought us the check while we were still eating.
Excellent food, vibe and location, but the service was lacking. We sat at our table for ten minutes before anyone greeted us or offered us water. It was another ten minutes before anyone came to grab a drink or appetizer order.
Old Ebbitt is an experience unlike any other. Enjoying a fantastic meal in a historic setting is not something you can find at most restaurants.
Brad, our server, was friendly, helpful, attentive and professional while very comfortable.
The food was amazing starting with the crab cake all the way to dessert.
Drinks were creative and delicious.
We went back the night after having dinner for drinks and dessert.
Highly recommend experiencing a place that presidents have enjoyed.
The food and table service was great, but the reception was terrible. If the employees at the desk and the guy who takes you to your seat hate their jobs, they ought quit.
Everything was awesome! My friend and I ordered lobster pasta and steak frites. Those tasted really nice. I hopefully want to visit someday again!😁
Food is not worth the price. I was very disappointed.
Burger was over cooked. Bottle of pinot noir was nearly hot. Waiter did provide a ice bucket which helped buy wine should be stored at a better temp.
Always delicious, with fantastic service. The restaurant is beautiful, the food speaks of comfort paired with something new...I love this place!
Fantastic place, great service, food was awesome, and tons of history.
Will return there the next time I’m in DC.
A bit disappointed with the food this visit. My Brick Chicken was dry, but vegetables were delicious. Crab cake mediocre, swordfish mediocre, meatloaf was delicious. We enjoy the ambiance and historical significance of Old Ebbitt.
The food was wonderful. The service was great, waitress and staff were very attentive and accommodating. Great atmosphere. I would highly recommend this place.
Love this place, I have been coming for years, every imaginable reason, coffee on a cold day, special occasions, late night snacks or just for dessert. The staff is always incredible, and the oysters are fabulous!
The novelty is that it is the oldest restaurant in DC. For that distinction you pay high prices for mediocre food.
Love the Old Ebbitt Grill - the energy, exciting, great food, great place to meet new friends and longtime friends!
Severs are very kind. Food also perfect!! I experience special moment at Old Ebbit Grill.
This was my 2nd time here, and it was still awesome. The brunch menu has something for everyone and the prices are not bad AT ALL.
We had a great time together at the Grill and enjoyed the food!
This has been a favorite spot of ours whenever in DC. Our server was very nice and the food was tasty. However, the hostess and welcome to the restaurant left much to be desired. We felt as though she was annoyed at everyone checking in and shuffled to our table. It also didn’t help that we were seated right next to the kitchen ... high traffic, loud sound of the dishes, smells ... Maybe we’ll give it another try and sit in the bar.
Old Ebbitt Grill is a DC fixture with a well-earned reputation for excellent food and service. This occasion was no exception. My date and I devoured the hummus starter, which was tasty and perfectly seasoned, and then attempted the pastrami Reuben on pumpernickel with shoestring French fries. The Reuben was piled high and appropriately warm and topped off with cole slaw, and bested our appetites after only making it half-way through. No matter, our server dispatched a box and a delicious leftover was enjoyed the next day. It’s difficult to describe Old Ebbitt Grill in terms not repeated before. Suffice it to say it’s the perfect destination when visiting our Nation’s capital.
Have to stop in historic Old Ebbitt Grill whenever in DC. Good food, good prices, outstanding service, and Paul was a great server! A memorable evening!
Never can go wrong with the crab cakes!! One of my faves when I return to DC.
The Ebbitt has been one of our faves for over 30 years. The food was really a disappointment. The food was always excellent. Has the menu changed? Don’t remember it being as limiting as it now is. My husband’s cannelloni (which he always has) was good but not hot. They came out with 4 dishes but forgot about the 5th so that was not top notch. My gem (?) salad with chicken was really unbelievably pedestrian and dry. Large dry pieces of chicken. Not good at all. We left super bummed out because we’ve been coming to the Ebbitt and bringing out of town guests for years.
Left after appetizers. Incredibly crowded with approx 1 foot between tables. Difficult to get waiter's attention and when I did he kept cutting me off and seemed like he couldn't wait to get away. Food we did receive was average, nothing that would justify the pricing. Hugely disappointing experience .
As tourists from out of state we enjoyed the atmosphere, menu selection, and the service was very good. We thought the prices were inexpensive for a trendy place. Definitely go.
I enjoyed Old Ebbitt. I made the reservation on OpenTable, got in in 15 minutes; ate and was back at work just a little past my lunch break.
Fabulous team. Good food. And great value.
Great value great atmosphere as always
Historical restaurant in a very convenient location close to the white house. Serves several regional mains as well as more classic american food. I got the brick chicken with succotash. Tasty and perfectly cooked. Really liked the place.
Enjoyed the food! Ambiance was amazing! Service great! Really enjoyed the crab cake, frutti di mare, and calamari. Would recommend making reservations!
Bartendee was fantastic.
We eat at Old Ebbitt every time we are in DC and have never been disappointed. Our server this time was Jenny and she was helpful with excellent recommendations. The staff was very attentive without being hovering. The food was excellent and The ambience was fun as usual. We always recommend Old Ebbitt to any of our friends in Texas when they go to DC. Thanks again for a marvelous dining experience.
Classic throwback to the 40s with good service, good food and steps from the attractions in DC. A must on every visit.
