Old Ebbitt Grill Ratings and Reviews
Overall great experience. The raw oysters were phenomenal, and I always appreciate when the oyster selection isn't solely from the east coast or the gulf. My only complaint is that I ordered my steak medium rare and it appeared more medium. When I asked my server about it, he seemed to get defensive whilst explaining that this particular kind of beef (I got the steak frites) appears medium even though it's medium rare. Honestly seems like a hogwash answer to get a patron to shut up and eat, but I'm not a steak connoisseur. I wish that it was suggested that I ordered the steak rare in that case, but it was still very delicious! Overall, this is now on my list as a notable date spot. Super cute, super classy!
We had an awful experience, despite previous good ones. My husbands dinner came out burned and cold. The waitress took it back, and the next plate that came out was burned as well. Although the waitress was trying to correct the problem, the manager was horrible and rude. No apologies or anything!
Been coming here for years. The food is absolutely amazing and the price is so reasonable considering its location. I highly recommend going for dinner or weekend brunch. My favorite thing is to hit the oyster happy hour, 50% off, and they have an amazing selection. I usually get a dozen and split it across 3 different varieties.
Absolutely horrible hostesses!!!! when we arrived there was two at check in and only one of them checking folks in. the hostess spent over 15 min helping a man work in his table for 8 that he had no reservations for. when we asked second hostess to check us in she said it wasnt her job and we would have to wait. after what seemed forever that second waitress decided she would go ahead and give us a pager.. as we waited another 10 min and watched the guy with the table for 8 get seated and the couple behind us get seated i went back to ask why were we still waiting... they punched a few keys on computer and made the pager go off. Really??? and i had reservations!!! plus they tell you i was a no show??? i have never seen such a cluster. I guess i didnt need reservations because the table for 8 didnt. And... i noticed they called the manager up so he could brow beat him into seating his 8 folks. and yes... it was my birthday so thanks alot ebbitts for treating me like a second class citizen. they should be ashamed.
Not sure what went wrong.... oh yes... now I remember.... Service Service Service.
6 covers, dinner and drink. Drink vice drinkS because our waiter only returned to the table once with our entree’s and then didn’t returned until it was time for the bill. One single round of drink. Sad. Pure luck.
We quickly left and finished our night at the nearby (highly recommended) Off The Record basement bar in the Hay Adams.
Usually my fav place to eat due to great cocktails, food and service. However this visit was disappointing. We were seated in the back bar area which was crowded and noisy. Service was slow, my meal was cold when it finally arrived and my husband’s steak was tough. They have also changed the menu selection.
The first day we landed in DC from Florida, we were recommend to this place which is just a walk and a jump away from the White House. Let's talk about the scallops and award winning oysters this place has! My sweet baby Jesus! The oysters were EVERYTHING! I had the butternut squash soup which is great for any cold night. Service was great! The tables are a little tight so be ready to converse with your table neighbors! Pretty cool place, will definitely return! Oh, also make sure to make a reservation in advance, they were pretty busy for a Monday night.
