Traditional foods cooked with a twist to perfection. The grilled oyster starter was amazing.

Ambiance rating is low due to being in the central lobby area. The main restaurant would get a 5. Unfortunately the chili was lukewarm and service mediocre.

This is a huge restaurant with at least 2 large bars. Loved our cozy both seating as it was quiet and secluded feeling. Our waitress was wondering and the calamari was delicious. The cocktails were okay. Our food was good, but wouldn't say outstanding. They key lime pie was outstanding!

We had the Jager Schnitzel and it was delicious. The portions were very generous and the Spaatz and red cabbage cooked just right. The service was excellent and there were plenty of wait staff to meet our needs. It was a little noisy due to the high volume of patrons. Overall a very good experience and I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Greatest oysters I’ve ever had! The orca platter was incredible and perfect for three hungry mouths (though I wish we’d known about the happy hour/after 10:00 half price deal on it). Crab and artichoke app was so so good, but wish they’d serve it with pita bread or even regular bread instead of potato chips. Bread pudding for dessert was delicious.

Everyone who visits Washington DC should visit the Old EbbitGrill. This was the 5th time we've been to this restaurant. We had given rave reviews to the newcomers we brought with us. This time were a bit disappointed. It seems like the food was just OK. The meatloaf and French fries were cold. There were bones in the trout. The server didn't even asked if we wanted dessert. He was not very attentive. I want a little embastrassed that I had given such high marks. Would I go again, yes, because the place had such a historical significance. This experience made me sad.

Very good food and attentive service! I should note that we sat in a section which was used for tables for two and it was quite tight fit in there! It should also be noted it is also a bit loud, with the bar tender for some reason having to shout every so often.
Still, it was a wonderful restaurant and I would come back!

We ate their on our first visit to Washington on the recommendation of our daughter. The atmosphere and food did not disappoint. My husband had the pork chop and I had the shrimp linguine. Both excellent . We will definitely go back next time we are in DC.

Old Ebbitt Grill is a staple of DC as the capital city's oldest restaurant. It has old school charm and ambiance with a terrific menu. We took advantage of the happy hour specials for oysters, crab claws and jumbo shrimp. We booked a reservation due to its popularity but we were in the White House area in the mid afternoon and fortunately we were able to be accommodated. The restaurant was recommended to us by friends and I would recommend it to anyone visiting DC.

We frequent Old Ebbitt Grill and have always loved their brunch offerings. Our group of 7 was excited for sure. Four of the diners were thrilled with their dishes immediately. The three of us who ordered the Benedicts returned ours. They were cold, the muffins didn’t taste toasted and we were not happy. The server was gracious and returned with three great dishes to make the afternoon complete. It was a glitch, I’m sure, in years of great dining. Of course we will be back. I wouldn’t miss their fried oysters and martinis for anything in the world.

We enjoyed a variety of food and drink. My one low note was that, when I asked for a second cup of tea, I was charged a second time. That's absurd.

Hi- I brought 3 girls- ages 7yrs, 8yrs and 14 yrs this past Saturday evening to celebrate their birthdays prior to walking to the National to see Mean Girls at 8pm. The valet was great, our waiter was great, the actual restaurant part was disappointing and stressful. We waited in line for ~15minutes to get to the host for our 6pm reservation and were informed Old Ebbitt was way overbooked by Open table and the host could not guarantee a table at all, though we had a confirmed reservation. He suggested we take a buzzer and walk around the restaurant, which was incredibly crowded and my little girls got bumped around and wanted to leave. We finally got seated and our waiter was great, but we had waited 45minutes and had to eat very quickly to be on time for the show. The food was OK, but not great. I don't think I would do it again, though have been a long-time fan of the awesome history and ambience of Old Ebbitt.

Overall the meal was very good. The biggest negative was that we were seated 30 minutes after our reservation time. In fairness, there was a large event going on, but if you know that is happening, maybe limit your reservations and/or walk-ins. We were on a timeline due to tickets for a show.

Once we were seated, our server took good care of us. He brought refills out quickly and was very attentive.

In my reservation, I said we were there for a birthday. There was no acknowledgment by the staff for the birthday.

Two of the entrees were cold and were sent back, the third was over cooked. The replacement entrees were over cooked (cauliflower steak) and cold again. The dessert was supposed to be without whipped cream and was served with whipped cream. The bartender in the back bar was yelling sports scores off his phone so loudly that it was painful to the ear. Once he left the bar, the entire room quieted down. Not good!

This long-time DC favorite is as good as ever — and more crowded than ever. Great bar scene, excellent seafood, generous drinks. But the tourists discovered it years ago, so don’t expect a quiet, elegant dinner. Or lunch!

Nov 18th Saturday brunch at 2:30PM. Selected item recommended by very nice waitress. Chesapeake: jumbo lump crab cakes, Old Bay hollandaise ... 20.99. served with soft-poached, cage-free chicken eggs* and brunch potatoes. Food was warm. Eggs had good taste. Sauce and crab cakes had little taste. This item needs to be served hot.

Would not recommend this menu item. Nearby tables seem to get larger servings usually with fries.

Our waitress was helpful, polite, and smiled.

Full disclosure. I am an Old Ebbitt fan. My wife and I started dining there in 1999. The food quality is still outstanding. Always has been. But I think that is now over-priced. They need to offer more healthy side options with the main course. The last time we dined there, I had their "Cedar River Farms® Steak Frites" and my wife, the Salmon. The only sides available were green beans, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, french fries, and spinach. What about grilled mixed? Or other healthy veggies? They need to offer different vegetables. As much as we have enjoyed it, we are not going back because there are so many more good options around them that are worth the money.

We had low expectations for Old Ebbitt thinking it would be a tourist trap, but we really enjoyed it. It looks old with all the warm dark wood even though it is not the historical space. The only criticism of the food is that the cauliflower steak was only warm and was served not as a steak but as pieces. Other than that all was great.
