Mask Usage
We know it is no fun to wear a mask while enjoying a night out, but our staff's safety is no laughing matter.
We require all guests to wear a mask while moving about the restaurant, and when speaking to Clyde's employees.
Masks have been a hot topic, with passionate views on all sides. With our team and their families' health at stake, we must err on the side of caution. We hope you will understand and look forward to the day, hopefully soon, when we can all throw our masks in the trash.

It’s an historic restaurant next to the White House, elegantly appointed, with great service and wonderful food, at surprisingly affordable pricing. Gabby was our server. She was very personable and told us she has worked there over 20 years. She was awesome! Be sure to make this a stop when you visit Washington.
Splendid service & delicious food! Top notch
Amazing service and food!
Perfect steak
Was very happy with the experience
My guest enjoyed dinner too.
We have one year old twins and they accommodated us very well. We had a great experience and the food was excellent.
The food was great, the service was outstanding & the atmosphere is so much fun!
The service was impeccable. We had the crab cakes and the oysters Rockefeller. Both were divine! This is a must-do for a visit to DC. It is great for social as well as business meals.
Wonderful experience in the COVID environment. Food and service was excellent
Responsive, thoughtful service. Great food - Old Ebbitt Grill never disappoints.
Food and service were very good. Table placement in a corner behind bar not so great but with Covid restrictions I guess it was all they could do. Also I added 1 person to my reservation at last minute and they were accommodating on that.
The crab cakes were not good at all but my date had the pork chop and it was really good. You have to love the building fir the historical value and the service is always good
Deborah was helpful in suggesting popular menu items. Service was great. Food was delicious. High marks for the crab cakes!
Best Crab Cake ever
It was a fabulous dinner! The only complaint I can make is that we were seated in the lobby of the building instead of inside the restaurant. —And I had reservations too!
We sat in the newer area, in the building “lobby”. We would have much preferred in the actual restaurant. It was like eating in a hotel lobby. But food and service were outstanding. The “original” restaurant area has a great atmosphere.
Great food. Seemed very safe for Covid. We had a very nice waiter.
Wonderful place been there many times and never been disappointed. A little different this time with the pandemic but was very nice and quite which felt good but I felt for the establishment with fewer people for the bustling crown always made for great atmosphere.
Good food close to White House. Perfect stop when sightseeing. Excellent service. Bartender made me a delicious watermelon mojito! Meatloaf was very good. Crabcake was good.
Excellent as always
OEG is consistently a very good choice for breakfast, business lunch or dinner; COVID protocols are observed and sensible.
The food was hot and delicious! The food and drinks arrived in a timely fashion. Our waitress provided suggestions on the menu that we enjoyed.
Although I made a reservation at least 2 weeks in advance we were shown to a table in the lobby of what looked to be an office building with absolutely no historical charm which was why we wanted to dine here in the first place. When I balked at the seating choice I was told it was because I was a walk in with no reservation. When I explained that I had a long standing reservation I was told that the hostess would “try” to seat us in the historic area of the restaurant even tho there were many open tables. She finally “found” us a table in the Grant Bar. Once we were seated, the ambiance, service and food met or exceeded our expectations
Old Ebbitt Grill was surprisingly affordable with some of the best oysters I have ever eaten! My wife's crab cake was superb. The peanut butter pie was simply the best! Our waiter was highly professional and attentive to all our needs. Go and enjoy!
Very friendly staff. Food good. I thought we were going to see White House from there the way it was written but we did not.
Great food and service. We enjoyed this spot three times during our recent stay in DC.
We were sat in some Atrium, outside of the restaurant - as if we didn't belong. When asked for other seating options, it was made clear there was nothing else available (yet several table were available inside). The food (all 3 entrees) were way to salty (chef should consider getting a non-smoker to taste things before they get sent out).
I like this place, food is good and service also good,i would like to comeback next time😊
Had booked a year ago to celebrate 21 but was cancelled because of Covid so we rebooked again this year
The server Maurice or Mo was excellent and made our celebration even better
Food was excellent
Great choices of standard fare and oysters!!!!
Excellent food and service. Wonderful experience.
Lots of different menu items, great food with big portions.
We had a wonderful experience food and service were excellent. We were seated in the annex, not the main dining area. It was very comfortable and pleasant, though not the same ambience of the original restaurant.
Always fabulous never disappoints
Very cool ambiance. Eating here feels like you’re eating in history. Great food and service. Excellent cocktails.
Despite having made this reservation for a special Easter dinner with my daughters while visiting them in DC for the weekend, and despite being dressed up, the host sat us in the noisy, casual pub side with loud tv’s and a very casual crowd. Once seated, we realized this was not what we’d expected. I went back to the host desk and asked to be seated in the better dining room. He did move us to another table. But it was not a pleasant experience. I wonder if we’d have been treated differently if my husband were with us.
After that, things improved. Our server was excellent, as was the food.
Old Ebbitt never disappoints! We had a party of 4 and a party of 5. We ordered a variety of appetizers and entrees and it was all delicious. This was my third visit. I’ll be back.
Our server checked in on us 3-4 times over the span of our entire meal, which is far less than I expect and anticipated. Our bread plates remained on our table well past the time our entree was delivered (they should have been removed far before then) and when we asked the waiter to remove them he took another 5-10 minutes to have someone come pick them up, instead of grabbing them himself. Overall, poor experience and not what I expected. I have dined here a few times, but this was by far the most subpar experience to date. I understand it was a holiday (Easter), but we were among the first folks through the door (10:15 appt. so before the rush hour), so there was really no excuse.
We had a reservation. We did not enjoy sitting directly beside the restroom where people lined up near our table waiting to use the restroom. That’s not the ambiance one expects at a nicer restaurant especially if you have a reservation.
Wonderful Saturday night dinner after seeing the cherry blossoms. Real treat to sit at the bar before dinner and enjoy cherry blossom themed margaritas after not being able to do that in a year! I had the oysters Rockefeller and crab cake, my son had Caesar salad and steak frites. We both cleaned our plates. Service was friendly and nicely paced, no rush and we really enjoyed everything. Definitely our go to restaurant in DC.
Every time we are in town, eat at this establishment is a must!!
Have waited years to make the trip and eat at the Old Ebbitt. Wow! What a wonderful experience. A must for all.
