My wife and I were told we had to come here while we were in DC and I am so glad we did. By far the best value for food quality we got while we were in DC. My wife got the Parmesan crusted trout and I had the shrimp and grits and both were spectacular. There in a bottle of wine to top off the meal and with a decent tip got out for $100. Not only was it only of the better meals I had in DC, it was significantly cheaper. You’re doing yourself a disservice if you don’t stop in for a meal while in DC. Make sure to make a reservation so you don’t risk missing out.

Once again, Old Ebbitt Grill exceeds expectations. It is our “go to” dining spot when downtown. Would recommend to anyone wanting a great dining experience. We will return.

The seafood tower was delicious, but the service was the worst I've had in a long time. When the manager came by our table to ask us how it was, I tried to tell him the issues and he wasn't listening and seemed to be in a hurry to get to the next table. All he wanted to here was that everything was wonderful, but it wasn't and he didn't want to hear me explain

We were visiting from California and this was recommended by a lot of people we met around DC. This place is fantastic. You definitely need a reservation. We were here on Monday for lunch and the place was packed! Everything is yummy!

Server was fantastic. The Breakfast sandwich my wife ordered was loaded and delicious. The Waffle with glazed pecans etc was perfect. The glasses of juice were priced high enough that they should have had alcohol in them though. Overall I'll go back, but just not as often as if the prices were a little less steep.

Food for tourists -- if that's what you want, that's what you get. I imagine the idea is that, bedazzled by the atmosphere, you'll eat what you get no matter how tasteless....

The food and service are always great at any Clyde's Restaurant, but the Old Ebbitt is a notch above. It's always been one of my favorite places since my first visit to the most recent "old" location in the 1976!

We had the best Dinner at Old Ebbitt. The restaurant exceeded our expectations in all categories. We had a 9 pm, but arrived at 8:30 PM and were seated immediately even though the restaurant was full. We had just gotten off a flight so were pleasantly surprised that they could seat us early. Our waiter was super attentive and knowledgeable. The food was to die for. We highly recommend the Old Ebbitt for your next culinary experience.

Old Ebbitt Grill: is a historic saloon style bar and restaurant located at 675 15th Street NW in Washington, D.C.. It is Washington's oldest bar and restaurant. I believe on the paper menus its mentioned its owned by Clyde's Restaurant Group who also owns the Hamilton.
In the corner to the back of the restaurant, it does mimic an old style saloon, which gave it a lot of quirky appeal and charm.

The restaurant is popping with people which better equates to "loud" in the front of the house. The atmosphere is lively and relaxed. There is no reason to dress up. The walls are covered in artistic paintings and the ceiling has a cool hand painted mural.
The restuarants menu is pretty straightforward and leans you in my opinion to their famous raw bar which has a nice selection to choose from. The entrees do vary from seafood to steak but on the upside, the same 70.00 steak at the Occidental you can get here for about 30.00 flat. This jewel on the steak comparison came directly from our handy dandy waiter Bob.
We chose the usual beverages which were Heineken and a Pinot Noir. For appetizers Charles chose oysters and I had shrimp cocktail. Both items were great. Oysters were meaty and the shrimp were a ample size. For entrees we selected the same dish which was the Blue Crab Linguine. The dish tasted good but in my opinion was missing something as far as flavors like more seasonings. We had a similar dish over at RPM which this did not even come close.
The service was attentive and friendly. Do make a reservation if you visit because it stays packed. The prices are very reasonable.
My overall score for this restuarant on a scale from 1 to 10 with 1 being the worst and 10 being the best is a strong 7.
I did enjoy the experience but there were just a few instances that annoyed me. To start it was loud and I mean loud as in you could barely hear our named called by the Hostesses. The 2nd thing was the paper menus ( hate them) with a passion. The 3rd issue was being seat

I've been a frequent guest, and so when I decided to mark my 40th anniversary wanted to do it at Ebbitt. Brought some friends who also enjoy your food. We were all disappointed that some of our favorites were not included on the menu.

No meatloaf?
No Pork Chop?

C'mon these are expectations of a legacy establishment like yours, especially when you get us used to the wonderful food.

That said, we didn't whine about it, and selected from the menu. But, have to say the presentation of these items was sub-standards -- The shrimp and grits looked like a bowl of spaghetti-os, and the grilled chicken salad had pieces of chicken that were gnarled and tough and dry. Half chicken dinner also looked thrown together.

The only guests who had no issues were the two who decided to get the Cuban.

Our waiter was friendly and tried to explain the menu omissions. He did wish us an anniversary wish and wrote on the plate when we ordered deserts.

But all in all, we were disappointed. Not saying we won't be back, but maybe just for lunch and not a celebration.

Thank you for listening.

Too busy. Rude male host at check in. Walk in guests with no reservations blocking the vestibule and preventing guests with reservations from getting to the podium. Erratic service and no sense of who your waiter is. Not good for a pricey establishment.

We went to Old Ebbitt's Grill after we toured the White House with our 11-year old sons'. It was the perfect place to go- the ambiance was as DC as could be and the food was delicious and the service was impeccable. Definitely happy we made a reservation - the line at 1:30 was long! We loved our meal and experience there and would go again and highly recommend.
