The history of the Old Ebbitt Grill is interesting and the food is good.
Unfortunately, our waiter completely forgot about our appetizer. I would have reminded him about it but decided against it because the restaurant was quite busy and very noisy. We just wanted to finish our dinners and leave as soon as possible. I can't recommend going there for anything business related (as was our situation), but it would be nice to go with friends.
Food and service were excellent. The front of the restaurant was extremely crowded and there was not much place to stand and wait. Otherwise everything was fantastic.
Great experience, food and location and I was treated to free birthday dessert!
Great food and wonderful service. I can’t wait to go back.
The entire experience from the time we entered until we left was absolutely perfect. The food was amazing and the waiter was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed.
This spot was a true gem! Loved the decor and environment of the restaurant, but also truly impressed by the food. We started with the oysters, clams, and shrimp platter and the seafood was so clean and so fresh! Then for dinner we had the trout Parmesan and the cannelloni and both were absolutely delicious! I would highly recommend this for any occasion!
I have wanted to eat at Old Ebbitt for many years so I was very excited to have the chance to dine there this weekend. It just wasn't what I expected from one of the oldest, well known restaurants in DC. The music was loud, ball games were blaring from the bar so people were having to talk loudly over the noise. The food was just meh but reasonably priced. The curry lentil burger had no flavor. The service and decor was great. I can now say "Been there, done that and don't need to go back."
We definitely will be coming back again for another special day
I was a little disappointed in the 15 minute wait, even with a reservation. Brad our waiter was superb. He explained the menu, let us know how to get his attention otherwise he was not going to hover. The food was excellent. The valet service was easy and prompt. A definite place to return to.
Wonderful! Our server was amazing and we had the best meal of 2019 so far.
I took my lady here for a post Valentine's Day dinner I must say that everything was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant and I'll definitely be back.
Best veggie burger in town
Delicious would go back anytime! Pricing was good food was good and people were very nice.
Our waitress, Naomi, was attentive and knowledgeable about the history of the restaurant. Excellent!
Server and food were great
The food was delicious and the environment was great, highly recommend it
Enjoyed our diner at the old Ebbitt grill on Friday 2/15. Swordfish was delicious. Service was wonderful. The old world feel to the restaurant went well with the history of Washington DC.
It was a great lunch celebrating my sister’s special birthday! Had mentioned it in my reservation about my sisters birthday and they sang to her while giving her a great dessert sundae. Nice, thank you. My favorite restaurant in DC!
Old Ebbitt Grill is a must for anyone visiting DC, right near the White House and steeped in tradition. It is also a restaurant that actually delivers great food, friendly waitstaff, and great ambiance. For the oyster lovers, try the Harpswell Flats. They were the most unusual and delicious oysters that I’ve tried in a while. The shells look more like a scallop shell. They are very large, briny, with a sweet finish. Delicious!
First time there, though I did have expectations - that were met - since it is part of the Clyde's group. I took my cousin and her husband for breakfast. We were all pleased with the food, the prices, the choices, the whole shebang. I definitely will be going there again for breakfast.
Great business breakfast. Jay, the waiter, was stellar. Need to try huevos rancheros. They’re deconstructured and layered like a breakfast lasagna. Chorizo at base, beans and salsa in between layers of corn tortilla, with eggs on top. Great experience.
My fiancé and I went for Valentines Day and it was a great experience! Great service, great food, and the drinks were delicious. We spent less than 100.00 on both of us so we really enjoyed that part. We will be returning soon!!
Great experience, awesome customer service, and romantic environment for Valentine’s Day
Outstanding in almost every way imaginable. Service best Ive ever had. Ambiance wonderful, historic and with good music at the perfect volume.
Great Restaurant Near The White House
The food is excellent and the service is very efficient and helpful. Our Valentines Day dinner was made truly special by this restaurant and its staff. My beef bourguignon was so tasty and my husband steak was perfect. Don’t miss this great restaurant in the heart of Washington, DC!
Absolutely delicious food, friendly and well mannered staff, and a great place for a romantic dinner
As always great food and great service. No wait with reservations.
Wonderful Valentine’s Day date. Great drinks and the scallops were amazing!!
Valentines Day dinner. You expect extremely busy but service by was excellent
I was and am furious. I made the reservation for Valentines Day three weeks before. I made it for 4:30 so we could make a concert at the Kennedy Center at 7. I used to be a three-times-a week customer of the Old Ebbitt Grill when I worked at Metropolitan Square. Since then, I am not a regular, but go there for lunch with friends and special occasions with my wife. We also dine when we can at the Clydes in Columbia and Friendship Heights and 1789. We arrived for our reservation at the Old Ebbitt and were given the first table for two next to the reservation desk. I asked the waitress if there was anything else, saying that we were usually given a booth and that there were booths open as well as tables for 2 further back. She said they were all reserved. I struggled to control my anger and not spoil my wife's Valentines Day. I sat in the chair by the aisle so my wife could sit in, was continually jostled by people coming in and waiters rushing by, and shivered when people held the handicapped door open. When we left, two of the booths and some of the tables were still empty. I've experience this sort of elitism before at the Old Ebbitt. A year after leaving Metropolitan Square, I made a reservation there and, no longer a regular, was seated in the Metropolitan Square Atrium and were the only diners there. As far as the eating and drinking on Valentines Day was concerned, my drink was watery and the menu had nothing special for Valentines Day. I just had the pasta special, which I picked at, and my wife had the steak salad, which she said was fine. All I can ask the Old Ebbitt is, why should I go to the trouble to make a reservation and spend our special occasions with you when you treat non-regulars so badly? And, in answer to your presumed question, I didn't complain at the time because I didn't want to upset my wife.
This is a great spot to take someone who is visiting in town as the menu has a great variety of foods from american to italian to seafood options :)
Always good food and atmosphere. Great location and a real DC institution.
The food and service are amazing. It’s really loud, and the wine selection isn’t the best.
Great meal! Would recommend to anyone! Everyone was great. Their is a lot of history in this place.
Great place for a meal with colleagues. Enjoyed the food, great service, energetic ambiance.
Convenient location but limited choice for vegetarians and what I ordered was not well prepared
Good restaurant.
We were in DC for a quick weekend getaway. We stopped in at Old Ebbit Grill three times. Whether oysters and drinks at the bar, or dinner in the dining room, the service was great, the staff friendly, and the conversation plentiful. We will stop in the next time we are in DC.
Great food and amazing atmosphere. Could not ask for a more DC place to eat!
This place is more name, tradition and history than what it really represents.
