I made a note that I was celebrating my boy friend’s birthday and requested for any birthday specials. Again, I asked our server about it after we finished our dinner, he told me to ask the host, the host told me they do have birthday specials (usually a free cake or dessert) and asked a person to follow me to my table to make the arrangements. She did, but they just gave us a dessert menu and nothing else. I didn’t go ask again because I already did couple of times and I was embarrasing myseld infront of my boyfriend! I really appreciated one honest and correct answer at the first place, if you don’t have any Bday specials, just say you don’t and that’s completely ok! Don’t make us go around and ask it from multiple people! The food was great as always, but I don’t recommend this place for celebration after my experience.

I made reservations for 6 at 2 pm. We shows 30 minutes early and the front desk people were not the best. They asked us to sit at the bar. Until about 2. My whole party was there at 1:30. When I came to reception again - they told me my whole party needed to be with me - and I told them we were all at the bar waiting. They made me get everyone and then made us wait another 5 minutes. I ate at the occidental the night before. Everything g at occidental was first class from arrival to departure. The ENTIRE reception experience at old ebbit was super low end which hurts the experience. They say us in the lobby of the extension in the new building and I wasn’t having it. They seated us in the original section and our waiter was SUPERB. Dining experience was quite good. I lived in DC 30 years ago and this was a great place then. It still is. They just have to manage their front desk with better people and really need to seat people with reservations in the dining area and not I. The new building lobby area. It’s a real joke. If you are expecting good food you should have a good experience, but if you are depending on ambiance and a nice reception… you might or might not get it. They should try a little harder.

Little noisy but otherwise great. Mainly attributed to a specific group. Little pricy but not over the top.

Anniversary lunch- every one greeted us with a happy anniversary wish which was nice. Waiter could not have been better-fun and attentive and informative. Lively atmosphere was pleasant. Ordered oysters Rockefeller-very rich and nice flavor. We usually eat Gulf oysters so don’t know how to fairly compare as the oysters themselves disappeared under the cheese and herbs/spinach. We enjoyed them. He had the pork chop-impressive and perfectly cooked. I sets his Swiss Chard with lardons-delish. The soufflé or corn cake side was a little disappointing-looked great but a bit dry and dull. Nice sauce provided a bit of acid and good flavor to the chop. I had the crab cake-ordered the sandwich but came as a single cake-that was fine so I didn’t call it out. Chose fruit as a side and husband said it was good nothing special but a nice mix and cole slaw that was simple but perfect. Cold and lightly dressed crisp and with a touch of parsley. The crab cake was the best I have ever had by a long shot. Sweet lump crab that was pleasantly crisped on the outside moist and sweet throughout. How it held together is a mystery to me as there really was no filler and nothing that masked the sweet crab. Loved it. Waiter calling us lovebirds made me chuckle every time and he was a pleasure throughout. We will make it a must when in DC.

Both crab dip and fried green tomato appetizers were tasty. My wife had the crab cake entree, and I had the meatloaf. The crab cake was delicious - the meatloaf had a bacon - horseradish glaze that was a bit overpowering but was still very good. The service was on point. I would definitely return.

Loved everything about our Breakfast at Old Ebbitt Grill. It wasn't cheap, but it was a great experience for the family to eat and explore the area.
