Very fun place to visit. Food was good but not fantastic ( eg I need to ha e it again), I had the scallops. I would for sure come back but would try something different
Great food! Would definitely go back
We very much enjoyed the food, service, and atmosphere. Our server was very polite, helpful and on top of the food and drinks. We will definitely be returning the next time we are in DC, and will tell everyone about the place.
Outstanding service and food quality was excellent!
Service was impeccable. From the host to the waitress, everyone was super friendly, kind and helpful. Food was AMAZING! So delicious, great options and atmosphere is cool.
I went twice in two days. The first with reservations and at 7:30 prime dining time, the second, walking in after a show because they serve late.
Good things: lovely room and very friendly servers and host and the food, if not special, is perfectly fine. The raw selections are the only outstanding food items.
I order crab which server says is one of his favorites, especially the squid ink on it. Intrigued, I order it and it comes with regular pasta and red sauce. Server didn’t know that they don’t do that anymore. What I had was fine, just not what was ordered. Hot fudge brownie sundae is just chocolate syrup, not hot fudge. Butterscotch blondie sundae had nothing remotely butterscotch-like on it.
Ordered cappuccino, well tried to, but I was told the machine was broken.
The next night I got bacon cheeseburger and potato salad. Both were fine. But nothing you couldn’t have anywhere else. But also not expensive either. Ordered peach crisp but it never came, instead sever just brought the check.
I would totally go there again, because it is not expensive and the food is average.
Service is fast but a bit broken when they can’t describe a dish or remember the desert you just ordered.
It is VERY loud which will make it a it hard to hear a date. It is NOT a special occasion place.
If folks were asking me for a really great place to go to eat, I wouldn’t tell them here. But if they said they were in the area and needed a bite, I would tell them it was fine.
Amazing history! Amazing food! Loved the happy hour specials!!! Our waiter was so nice and on top of it all. We loved every bite and felt special just to be there. Cannot wait to come back next time we visit DC!!
Favorite place to eat in DC!
Food was great and the dessert was to die for. We loved the decor and atmosphere!
Always good to visit this DC institution. Good food and friendly service. Enjoyed the crab dip and turkey sandwich!
Service and food are always excellent.
We had a great lunch this past Monday. I have a hearing disability, and we got a great table in a smaller dining room with a view of 15th Street. All else was up to the normal high standards.
I’ve had many great meals here. But this was not good.
Amazing meal and atmosphere. It was the highlight of our day.
Made a reservation so I wouldn’t have to wait. People without a reservation were told they would have to wait 45 minutes. I waited 35 minutes with a reservation. Really unacceptable. I would not recommend this restaurant under any circumstance. Many other restaurants in the area. Go to one of them.
I am at the age where I no longer have a 'favorite' in any category, including restaurants. I will tell you that Old Ebbitt Grill makes my Top Five of all time. Any time I find out I have to go to Washington, the next call is to make a reservation. My most recent meal there . . . the perfect meal!
Food was overrated and overpriced for quality and quantity
Our server was excellent!
The food at Old Ebbitt is very well done, especially the Sunday brunch items, like French Toast, and all the seafood. Desserts can be a rest treat as well!
Consistently good service and food! Enjoyed some PEI oysters, steak salad with peaches and Gorgonzola! Well done!
We love Old Ebbitt Grill and visit often for special occasions. This was our first visit in the later hours of operation. We indulged in their oyster happy hour which is a great value featuring half price oysters and other discounts on sea food. My only criticism is that the service was slow. Our reservation was for 10:45 and we stayed until after 1 am. We would have liked to have gone somewhere else to have additional cocktails while we were in the city but it took a while to order dinner and many drinks over the several hours we were there. The hostess seemed frazzled and even asked us if we had been helped within minutes after she asked us to wait while they prepared our table. Mind you we were the only people waiting at the time. Our server also seemed a bit overwhelmed and tired. I suppose the late shift is pretty draining after a Saturday night rush but it was a bit disappointing to wait for service. It doesn't deter me from going back because the atmosphere and food are wonderful. Once we ordered, our food arrived promptly and was fresh and delicious.
From the time we tried to get in the door it was just ok. The doorman didn't hold the door - in fact he pushed his way through to do something that was apparently more important. The environment in front of the restaurant is stinky and uncomfortable. So many people are smoking outside that it was difficult to breathe and multiple homeless people asked us for many and made us and our children feel uncomfortable while we were waiting for our uber.
The hostesses were dismissive and scattered. They did not make eye contact nor were they welcoming. It felt like they were doing us a favor by seating us even though we had a reservation and there was not a wait. There was nothing personable abut our waiter. He seemed like he was tired and in a rush. The gentleman who was tasked with clearing dishes and refilling water was the nicest and most accommodating person we encountered while we were there. He was the only person that made us feel welcome or like service mattered. The food was good, but no one checked back to see if we needed anything. It took awhile to get our check. It's a cool place and worth trying while in DC, but the service at all levels falls way short of fine dining.
Service by Tutu (hope I spelled that correctly) was awesome!!! She made some great drink recommendations...Love Potion #9 was one of those and it did not disappoint. I found the chairs to be a bit uncomfortable but that is very minor. The food was good; however, I was NOT a fan of the radicchio with mozzarella. It didn't sound appetizing on the menu but I gave it a try....fail! And if the menu says broccolini...I'm expecting some delicious, vibrant broccolini on my plate. Instead it was chopped up and mixed with farro...not what I was looking forward to. All in all I'd go back, but I'd make other menu choices.
The food was great, the service was exceptional and the ambiance fantastic.Would highly recommended.
It was very good
Excellent food, excellent service. Would definitely go back!
Best. Oysters. Ever.
Atmosphere delightfully Washingtonian (except for tourists in shorts and tank tops, but that's unavoidable).
In planning my trip to D.C., everyone told me Old Ebbitt Grill was a must-do for lunch or dinner. It didn’t disappoint. The atmosphere of the restaurant itself is worth the trip alone, with the green velvet booth seats, antique lamps on the tables, & beautiful scenes painted on the walls. The bar area has a very “gentlemen’s club” feel. A short distance from the White House, you definitely feel as if you are in a place that holds a lot of history. The service there is impeccable. While it wasn’t my favorite meal while in D.C., it was in no way a disappointment. I definitely recommend a visit to Old Ebbitt if you are planning a trip to D.C. for the ambiance alone!
Service was outstanding, very attentive and responsive. Food was prepared exactly right. The restaurant is very noisy, though. I don't think there's much that can be done about that, though.
I ordered the crab cake and it was excellent. Others ordered a soup with fried oysters, a hamburger, a pastrami sandwich, and a rice bowl. Everyone enjoyed their meal. It is always consistently good dining and fun too.
If in DC, do not miss a meal here!
Delicious food in reasonable portions. Great location for exploring the National Mall. We had a lovely time!
Great good, beautiful restaurant.
Wonderful! Food was great...drinks were great! And most importantly the service was the best! Our waitress was very attentive and so was everyone else who worked there! I highly recommend it
Absolutely fantastic. Wonderful entrees and the Jumbo lump crab cakes are simply the very best!
The salmon entre is one of the best things I've EVER eaten. And I've eaten a lot.
Good food great service excellent ambiance. Thoroughly enjoyable. Seated within 5 minutes of my reserved time. Will definitely go there again.
It was better than I remember it. It was very full and busy. The atmosphere was slightly on the noisier end. But the food was tasty and great. It was a nice place for a business lunch. Reservations would seem to be a must, considering how busy it was.
Perfect place for a quality lunch. Excellent food and quick service. Well run and organized....
I was having dinner with mom and family and we decided to get the Oregon seafood tower it may be the best seafood tower in the whole wide world my wife loves it she asked for it by name. The cheeseburger is also even good and they have real french fries that are crispy and hot and they are served I know because my son got their $18 cheeseburger and it was excellent
