Old Crow Smokehouse - River North Ratings and Reviews
The food needs to be improved.
The cooks need to be improved.
Service needs to be improved.
Drinks need to be replenished and fountain drinks filled.
The prices need to be lowered for portion sizes. Portions were very small.
Food was delivered cold.
No refills offered. Drinks were not normal- no syrup in soda fountains.
Old standing ice tea- tasted bad.
Cold in restaurant.
The place was empty on Sunday night. I stood at the hostess stand for over 3 minutes while they talked to the bartender and kept looking at me. Once they finally sat me, they were out of 2 beers on tap and the food I received was overcooked and cold. After a long day of traveling from LA - I wanted a comforting meal to relax. This definitely wasn't what I received.
The ambiance was great but the food was anything but. Ordered the combination plate to try and share with the table. Ribs were way overdone, brisket was extremely dry and pulled pork was nothing special and on the dry side. The beer can chicken was moist but on the verge of not being cooked. @ at the table wouldn't try due to pink and red around the bones. Was hoping for a great BBQ due to pit master but was extremely disappointed and will probably only come back to hear music on the weekends but definitely not to eat dinner.
We went there to see Ty Bates perform on Saturday night. We went early so we could try out the Old Crow Smokehouse's food offerings. We each had the pulled pork sandwich and coleslaw, and it was all totally delicious !! Our server was very good and took exceptionally good care of us at all times. We finished with a piece of the S'mores pie, which was outstanding ! We then moved up to a table in front of the stage area to see Ty Bates' show. He was outstanding too, as usual (we've known him for over four years now). The whole evening was definitely worth the trip to Chicago, and we'll be back again for sure !! Thank you for everything !!
The high point was the service, which was attentive, very pleasant and helpful - - especially when my luncheon partner was served the wrong meal. The food, however, was awful, with the exception of the French fries. We probably should have reconsidered dining here when we saw that only a very small handful of tables in this huge restaurant were occupied at noon time.
We were in town for a conference. Went with a party of 7. Was a slow weekday night - but the music was loud. It was very hard to hear people at our in table. After taking our order the waitress had to come back to the table to ask one of our party members if he had ordered his meal! They forgot our appetizers, and brought us our meal. When we questioned it, she said she would check, but never came back with food or update. She then brought them out to us in to-go boxes after we finished our meals! Rarely did she check in on us for drink refills or ask how the food was. Most of the table said their food was good. I thought my ribs were a bit dry. She went around the table taking dessert orders and forgot someone completely. This was our first and last time there. Which is too bad bc it had a cool vibe to it. 👎
Old Crow really surprised me. The food was delicious. I was skeptical after reading mixed reviews, but it was all tasty and the value is unbelievable! Service leaves a little something to be desired as I feel its pretty inattentive--even when the bar was completely dead-- the servers seemed more focused on socializing than serving. The food was so good that I'd definitely go back! Its a very nice place with live music and clean bathrooms. Also, sitting outside on the patio is great for people watching!
Very disappointed in our visit to this Old Crow last weekend. Not at all crowded but service was slow and relatively inattentive. Had to send waiter back to find one of our orders twice as most were well into their meal before the last entree came out. Much prefer the Old Crow on Clark St near Wrigley
Food was good overall with the burnt ends being a stand out. Bacon had a good flavor although I would have preferred it a little crispier. Service was good, but not as attentive as I would have liked. The building is very cool. Music was too loud for a Sunday afternoon.
Great place for live music, comfort food and good drinks. The only downside we had on our visit was the slow service. Our server was good and perhaps the place was understaffed that evening. It seemed to take a while for anyone to get to us after we did our original order. Our food and drinks came out almost immediately after ordering them, but we did not have any follow up check ends after that.
Went here on Monday around 5:00pm. There were few diners at that time of day which was great for my party. I imagine given the openness of the space the restaurant may become raucous when the late night diners and party people arrive. However if I am eating early in the evening this will become my new go to place. I loved the food and country atmosphere. We had St. Louis ribs and "burnt ends" both were delicious. I enjoyed their peach tonic. Wait staff was attentive and not overbearing. This is not a good place for vegetarians. The bar prices are high and the food prices are high to moderate. Meat portions are are large; side dishes not so much.
Much of the food came out cold and the service was horrible! Waitress asked us to cash out right after we ordered because she was going to work a different area of the restaurant and someone else would be helping us - no one else ever came back as our server! We had to flag people down just to get water!
I booked this late night reservation (10:15p) for a 10 person work group following evening focus group sessions; we are from out of town and did not know the restaurant. There seemed to be a lack of communication between the booking system/manager and the hostess/staff on duty. There was no one at the door to seat us so we walked in and found a table ourselves. The hostess/waitperson eventually rushed over and was basically panicked; she semi-shouted that the kitchen was closed and last call was in 15 minutes and then left the table. I had to go find a waitperson, carry menus to the table myself and request that someone come to the table in 5 minutes to take our order. Even as we were ordering, the person was telling us that last call was in 15 minutes, we had to reassure her that we only wanted 1 drink and wouldn't stay long. We had hoped to get some light food, but the kitchen was closed. I had made the booking with the intention of having a table and service available at the late hour and the hope that we would be welcomed and not rushed or made to feel that our large, late group was an imposition to the estabilishment, this ended up backfiring completely. Basically, I don't think the restaurant should have a 10:15p time available on the OpenTable system, they are not set-up to accommodate it and their staff is not properly trained or prepared to take initiative to provide service at the late hour.
The service was inattentive, slow and argumentative.
We dined at 6:45, ordered around 6:55 (group menu, pre fix) but didn't get food, or an update until 8:20. We also ordered apps (fries, wings etc...) that arrived after our meal came, and when we requested ranch dressing, it came at the tail end of our meal.
When we finally chased down the server for updates, she shoved us off and said that we'd probably have to wait a while.
Luckily the manager passed by and when we explained the issue, he hand brought another plate of fries to our table within minutes. He was a star, apologized, and discounted our bill.
The food was delicious, but would think again about visiting due to the overall abrasive nature of the dining experience.
When my party and I arrived at the restaurant WITH A CONFIRMED RESERVATION, we were rudely turned away with no apology because there was a private event. My reservation was never cancelled. Whoever was managing the new arrivals at the door was extremely rude and basically shrugged that it was not his problem and essentially told us to go somewhere else. We did. I'm never coming back, either.
