Olazzo - Silver Spring Ratings and Reviews
Came here for a spousal birthday on a Friday night. Reservation was key, even for an early seating like ours. Small dining area felt cozy as opposed to cramped, thanks to high ceiling and low lighting. Prices were reasonable, portions generous. Server was competent and attentive. Small table was cleared quickly and unobtrusively between courses.
Food itself was edible. DH's crab cake, while majority-crab, was a bit too wet, verging on slimy. The frutti di mare was overdone, although that might've been less noticeable with a marinara as opposed to the white wine reduction I had. We did enjoy the pleasingly-crispy calamari appetizer. We were full by the end and didn't have room for a dessert.
Not wanting to end the night but not needing a table, we adjourned to the bar and had cocktails. DH's brandy was given in a rocks glass... he needed to ask for a snifter from the bartender who confessed he was new. The bar ambiance would've been nicer without a bank of TVs glaring down, but everyone seems to need to stare at a screen 24/7 these days.
Overall, we had a great night together, the food and drink while not extraordinary was plentiful, and the atmosphere was lively yet pleasant.
Earlier this week, my wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Orlazzo. The service and ambiance were very good, and the food and drinks were great! The specialty martini that I ordered was delicious, and the Lasagna that I ordered was some of the best that I've ever had!
We go here often, definitely the best Italian food in Silver Spring. This past visit was on Valentine's Day and luckily I made a reservation far in advance because it was packed. Regardless, the service was fast and friendly and the food was great as always.
I had a lovely meal here. The service was great - the food came out quickly if you were really hungry! The portions were large and very reasonable. The fresh bread that started the meal was warm and perfect - crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. I had the pasta and meatballs (two large meatballs) and my boyfriend had the lasagna. We were both too stuffed for dessert. Great experience and we'll be back.
Food was amazing! Honestly some of the best food I have had in a while! Absolutely amazing! It was a bit crowded and we were kinda in the back where the kitchen was so environment was that great. Our waiter was on top of serving us so overall I had an awesome experience!
This is my wife and my second time. We just absolutely love Olazzo. From the appetizers to dessert, we couldn't ask for anything more. We have been in the look out for an Italian restaurant ever since we relocated from the North East where Italian food is a dime a dozen. It took us 3 years, but we have found our place.
Make sure to get the cheesecake.
We waited 40 minutes for a table even though we had a reservation. We received an apology, but no complimentary glass of wine or dessert. We had appetizers at the bar while waiting, served without utensils or napkins. Once at the table we had to ask twice for bread and olive oil. The food, however, was great. Linguine with clam sauce was delicious, and the bread great for sopping up the extra sauce. The olazzo salad was nothing special. Will give them another try, with a reservation.
I've eaten at the Bethesda Olazzo and assumed I would have the same experience in Silver Spring. The food was very disappointing. Baked penne was heavy and bland, with no character or flavor. It struck me as a dish that had been assembled well in advance (frozen?) and thrown into the over to heat up. None one else in our group was excited about the food. Lots of food though at a modest price, and the service was very pleasant.
We were seated promptly. They put us in the back room when we requested a quiet table and it was quiet until it filled up with people. Then it was loud. The food was average. I got the penne pasta and my relatives got the fish special; neither was special. The waiter was wonderful.
Olazzo's Silver Spring use to be my favorite local spot. Over the years service and food quality has declined. So I stopped going. But decided to try the faithful restaurant to celebrate my friend's birthday. However it was disappointing. The calamari was rubbery. The server wasn't too friendly; but was not rude either. She didnt offer the evening special -- I had to ask if there was one. Additionally I Informed her it was my friend's birthday and got no reaction. It was extrmely awkward. Don't get me wrong it's a quaint little place with awesone cocktails, which I still enjoy. I may try the other location to see if it's a better experience.
The Italian style food was as suggested, very good and the portions were nice size also. Half price wine by the bottle on Monday was unexpected plus. My only problem was finding the place. For some reason GPS directs one to the alley behind the restaurant and if there is something to be done about that it would be a good thing. Nice evening and meal, quiet enough to have the discussion we needed to have.
Was disappointed in the appearance of the restaurant. Looks like it needs a spruce up. The table tops are definitely worn and in general it just looks a bit run down. Also, I have never understood why music is played so loudly in restaurants. We were in the back room and maybe sitting under the speakers, so we asked politely if they could turn down the music which they didn't do as far as we could tell. So by the time we left, the music was loud and the restaurant had filled up which made having a conversation a bit trying.
We had 4 people in our party. Shrimp with pesto was excellent even without the cream added. Just the right balance of sauce to food. Mango salmon was very tasty although mango wasn't very ripe. Crab cakes were divine. Big pieces of crab. Hubby ordered Veal parm and had to send it back as veal was tough and hard to cut...had chicle parm instead. Pleasant meal overall, reasonably priced too.
Our party of 4 had dinner here for the first time and loved all of the Italian food options on the menu, and the choices that we made. We took advantage of the bruschetta appetizer, the chicken cardinale, eggplant, and penne entrees, and the tiramisu dessert. The restaurant format is informal (booths next to the bar with multiple TVs). We spent $150 including drinks, tax, and tip, and we are looking forward to going back.
Waitress did not come by to ask me if I needed something while I was waiting for a friend for the whole hour I was waiting. The door was kept open and as a result, the smoke from outside was brought in. Even when I complained, manager didn't close the door till everyone else had left. He kept saying that people like to get fresh air.
