Off Vine Ratings and Reviews
We came here for dinner before a show at the Pantages. Valet parking was very reasonable and they kept the car until after the show. The walk to the Pantages was less than ten minutes...perfect! The food was very good. Service was terrffic. The atmosphere was not fussy. I plan to come back many times!
cozy in the ivy walled outdoor eating area - makes you forget you're in the city. Ended up chatting with a family at another table for a good long while at brunch. good food and was able to get a seat without too much trouble as a party of 1 walk in once prime time for brunch had passed.
For years I've been a huge fan of 'Off Vine'. I recently went there for Sunday brunch to celebrate a friend's birthday. The service is always good and everyone's super friendly. But to be blunt - the food was meh. We ordered hot baked cinnamon rolls as an appetizer and what we were served was frozen Pillsbury rolls reheated smothered in a sugar glaze. I have kids. I've baked these rolls. They're nothing to write home about. And worse, is that they were stale too. Seriously? Hard rolls we needed knives to cut open. I complained and the waiter felt bad and took it off the bill. But the point is, that should never have been on the menu AT ALL if they weren't freshly home baked cinnamon rolls.
The main course was flavorless and we both left half our food there. The place was busy and everyone seemed rushed and the meal truly was uninspired. I am no longer a fan and this was my last meal there.
Quite honestly the food was just ok. My wife's salmon is better and the carrot mixture served with it was too sweet. My Chicken Piccata had a nice flavor but nothing special but the mashed potatoes were much better than the carrot side dish. The chocolate mouse dessert was very good and the berry pie tasted fresh.
We sat outdoors on a beautiful evening. Hard to believe you are only a few minutes from Hollywood or Sunset when the restaurant is so quaint and quiet. Food was FANTASTIC - the appetizers, entrees, and desserts were all just amazing. Not inexpensive or super affordable - at the high side of the "$$" designation for sure. Our waitress was also really kind and pleasant - she knew some of the other patrons by name and was very attentive with us as well.
I liked the converted house feel of the restaurant and the porch area for dining. Portions are large and the prices reasonable. The biggest drawback is a lot of street noise due to the neighborhood, but a good option if you are going to the Pantages 2 blocks away and you only need to park once. 3 of us enjoyed our entrees, one found it mediocre, and the food is best described as decent.
Great dining spot before the theater....
We love this cozy dining in a cute little cottage in the heart of Hollywood. The staff is very accommodating about getting you off to the theater on time. If you like and are able to, you can park there to eat and leave your car there for the theater. It is less than ten minute walk to the Pantages.
We were going to the theater and informed our waiter that was the case, so we needed our dinners to come out sooner than later in order to enjoy them (we arrived 2 hours before show time). The kitchen left us 45 min. to finish eating (really just less than an hour before the start of the show and we still needed to get the car from valet and drive to the show, so less than 45 min in fact)...this meant we were rushed (we sat for 30 min waiting for the entree after starters)...we like the restaurant, but it may not be reliable for prior to the theater.
went for dinner... had lentil veggie dish and hubby had chicken piccata. His chicken was overcooked and dry and wish was bland. My veggie dish was nice to look at but very boring in taste. Maybe breakfast and brunch is better...or this could be a hot spot for local theater goers, but this is not a place for foodies who want exquisite dining. As my husband said, it feels and tastes like we went to some grandmother's house. Quaint is their upside; uninventive dinner plates is the downside.
This is becoming my go-to place for dinner before the Pantages. This last trip, I had a daily special, a shrimp risotto. It was unbelievably good. On my way out, a young woman at the next table thanked me for looking so satisfied with my meal and silently encouraging her to order it as well; she really enjoyed it too.
Off Vine is one of those hidden gems that will have your dates say
ing "How in the world did you ever find this place?" Well, I just drove around Hollywood and went off Vine.
The gracious yet homey atmosphere accommodates casually dressed and business or special event dining. It's just one block from Arclight Cinema and a 10-minute stroll from the Pantages. Emphasis is on comfort food, and the quality exceeds the moderate prices.
The food at Off Vine was very good! Starting with the bread and spinach pesto, which you must request because it is not automatically handed to every table, to the dessert souffle, the food was excellent. The only qualm I had was in my seafood risotto, which was a daily special. It had squid, shrimp, and salmon. While the squid and shrimp were very good, I was not a big fan of having large chunks of salmon throughout the dish. It didn't seem to make sense in the dish along with all the other ingredients.
Other than the food, the atmosphere is wonderful! It is a very cozy place with great lightning and decor. The true feel of the vintage cottage is evident the moment you walk up. I would definitely recommend checking out Off Vine and maybe finding your new favorite date night spot!
Really enjoyed the food, service, and ambiance. Went for lunch on a Sat and the food was tasty and good size portions. Their burgers have a big thick patty and the Chinese chicken salad was fresh and had slivers of almonds and mandarin oranges. The souffle was delicious had the chocolate/raspberry combo. There's other flavors too. Gave us moist banana bread instead of regular bread before we ordered our meal. The service was wonderful the manager or owner and waiter were very nice and friendly and attentive. Water was refilled without having to ask. We sat out in the front patio of this bungalow home converted into a restaurant and the ambiance was pleasant with flowers, plants, loveseats, and greenery along the walls to cover you from the street. We were the only ones on the patio at the time and they never forgot about us and service was great.
