Everything was perfect!
My husband and I were looking forward to dining at Octavia, as we read that it received one Michelin star. My husband is French, and is very knowledgeable about Michelin-rated restaurants. We ordered the "Chef's Surprise" tasting menu. We were perusing the wine list to decide what bottle of wine to order. The waiter put in our food order, and the food starting coming to our table before we could even order our wine. The waiter was not very attentive. We had to wait a long time to finally get our wine. The dishes did not seem to make much sense together. The food was good but nothing that special. We felt they were rushing us a bit. We did not think Octavia deserved any Michelin stars and were disappointed with the service and overall experience. We thought it was way overpriced for what it was. We would not return and would not recommend this restaurant to friends, family or business associates.
I selected Octavia for my wife and I's anniversary. We had the chef's tasting menu and the chef did not disappoint. Each dish was very well crafted and savory. The ingredients were fresh, organic, local harvested and spanned over several continents -- think East meets West . The flavors were just spectacular and that just the food. The decor and ambience is wonderful. The main dining room is light, airy and just pleasantly decorated.
Enjoyed the creativeness of the dishes and the wonderful tastes. The spinach salad came with fresh black figs and spiced pepitas. The roasted pork loin was served on a bed of fresh fruits and vegetables. Service was friendly and prompt. It was an enjoyable dinner with friends in a lively atmosphere. I would come again to try some of the other dishes.
Octavia is a kind of no pressure fancy party where conversations are smart and lively. The food and ambiance are excellent. Whether it's your first time, or your tenth, you're made to feel like a neighbor and a friend. The servers and kitchen are in a kind of rhythm you don't notice, unless you notice you're gliding through your meal content and happy. This was my third time eating in this space, but it didn't feel rote. Octavia has made some excellent changes to the kitchen and dining room - opening it up, and adding twinkly glamorous lighting. Don't skip the bread and butter! And get the olive oil too! In a city of great breads and food, Octavia shines bright.
One of the best meals I've ever had.
When I choose outstanding for all 5 categories to rate the experience at Octavia, I truly mean it!
This was one of the best dining experiences I've had in San Francisco in the last 5 years. The food was incredible! We did the 10 small course tasting for $70PP (a STEAL!) and were not disappointed by any of the dishes. We kept thinking, oh it's just a spinach salad next, how special could this be? Wow...such simple dishes that the restaurant elevated with an unlikely vegetable or seasoning added in that just transformed an ordinary app to a mouthwatering unforgettable dish.
The ambiance was elegant, yet rustic. Great soft lighting and cozy. Some diners may not enjoy close seating on the two tops (I usually don't as well) but I found this to work in this setting. It was fun getting to see what the pair next to you ordered and also overhear suggestions made by their server. However, our server, Chris was SPECTACULAR. He was so knowledgeable about each dish and the wines (he's a certified somm!) and offered great recommendations with such an easy, effortless attitude. He was awesome.
I HIGHLY recommend!
Fabulous meal, from beginning (burrata salad) through main courses (pasta w/shrimp, petit filet), and dessert (toasted angel food cake with berry compote and sweet-corn ice cream!
Don't miss this truly fine restaurant!!!!!
The tasting menu was great and reasonably priced. Not a big place but comfortable seating. The service was great! We had a wonderful and very personable server. I enjoyed my dinner and dining experience.
Amazing. Best dinner I’ve had in a long Tim’s.
Had a perfect meal after attending the opera. We walked from there (beautiful walk most of the way). Love the location on a corner. Delicious!
fabulous!! I recommend the gays who loves Japanese cuisine.Thier plates are inspired Japanese well.
Food and service were excellent, starting with a thoughtful birthday card in our table. We had the chef’s menu and each course was better than the previous one, ending with a cute little birthday cake and two desserts that were to die for. Our waiter was knowledgeable and efficient, we had a question about the wine we ordered and she was able to answer it on the spot. The bus person who was attending our table was absolutely charming and super friendly (Samba). Kudos for the service!
This was our 2nd visit. The first was outstanding however, this visit was not. We all had the same opinion.
The hor d'ourves were very good. Wine was great.
Totally fell down on the entrees. We ordered the semolina DUMPLING, lobster mushroom crème, sungold tomato, caciocavallo. Thought it was going to be a dumpling, dumpling. Instead it was just polenta and the one I made the other night was far better. Couldn't taste the lobster sauce as it was more like watered down milk. RED SNAPPER, roasted tomato, avocado crèma, kohlrabi, cucumber, gremolata Was okay but no flavor as was the sides.
We had the chefs choice and his choices were excellent and the choices were excellent. All the appetizers, salads and entrees were full of flavor and prepared exquisitely. The service was excellent, very attentive. The only comment we can make is on the desserts. We believe the meringue and chocolate pudding were to heavy and rich after such a filling meal. A sorbet and cookie would have been much lighter. All in all you are two blocks from our home and we are sorry we had not been there before this and will definitely be back.
We went to Octavia for a birthday dinner, and the ambiance perfect for a special occasion. We ordered the chef's tasting menu—they served two very healthy portions from each of the menu areas. It started with a bang with the deviled egg and ended with a bang with a chocolate pudding and a meringue with peaches. Just watch the bread—it's so good that it can work against you.
Great restaurant all around. The food was creative and flavorful; the wine a spirits list was very well curated. The vermouths were fabulous. The tasting menu was delicious and didn’t lack variety— left very comfortable. Highly recommend.
Excellent. Every bite is scrumptious! Beautiful preparation and fresh ingredients. Divine.
A favorite restaurant in San Francisco. Slightly disappointed with desserts when compared to what I've had on previous visits, but a truly exceptional experience. I'll look forward to the next meal!
We booked in here during a 3 night stay in San Francisco - the atmosphere was spot on, service was laid back but explemplary and the food was stunning, modern twists on traditional dishes done really well. We would happily visit again - great little restaurant!
Our waitress was amazing and the food was delicious, as always!
Fantastic find in San Francisco! We had the oysters, heirloom tomato, hamachi crudo, and Red Snapper. Each dish was exquisite! Carefully balanced flavors, fresh ingredients, delivered by highly trained staff. Oh, I almost forgot the bread...please don’t forget the bread. So yum!
A very nice place to eat fines and délicates dishes in a very aesthetic spirit. A gem instant.
Excellent tasting menu experience. Reservation for six and seated at the Chef’s table in the kitchen. Excellent service, food, and wine.
The food was fine; beautifully presented and executed but under seasoned in my opinion. Service was excellent, and we loved the waitress’ wine recommendation. The dessert was delicious and unique, however the starters and mains felt underwhelming, especially for the price of the overall meal. I really wanted to like this place so I’m glad I gave it a shot, however I won’t be revisiting anytime soon. The reviews for the place are glowing so perhaps it was an off night.
You can tell Octavia is a Michelin starred restaurant with the prompt service and beautiful looking food. We ordered a la a carte and were full sharing 1 app, 1 pasta, and 1 entree (wagyu beef), with room for dessert. Everything tasted great, well presented, and they had a nice happy birthday sign and little dessert for my wife's bday. Seemed to be quite a few bday dinners that night.
Excellent is the only word that a I can use. Excellent food, excellent service.. Raccomanded.
The tasting menu was really worth the money! Great food! Good portions and a lot delicious flavours to taste. Quick service. Friendly and well known staff.
Best place get the chef special
Very disappointed in the food - especially for a Michelin star restaurant. I did not find the food very creative. Most of the dishes tasted bland.
The food and experience was exceptional.
Such an amazing experience! The food was as special as the service- I can not recommend this place enough!!
A great visit once again. Food was excellent as is to be expected, and the service team was very attentive.
Very good restaurant - need to book in advance - service +++ Samba was great
Excellent dinner with great ambiance and attentive service. We really enjoyed this dinner as everybody of the staff seemed to try to make our visit special.
Quaint neighborhood place with a laid back feel. Great service and use of seasonal ingredients. Delicious all the way around. Knowledgeable staff.
Server was great. Food was excellent. Nothing disappointed.
What a treat! This is a special place—everything from the delicious and creative food, to the ambiance, to the servers, was well thought out and beautiful. We shared the spinach salad, eggplant soup, deviled egg, salmon and pasta. All wonderful.
Fantastic food! Very attentive service! They placed a sweet note on the table wishing us Happy Anniversary! Will go back!! Recommend highly!
