Great food, cozy and warm ambience, and friendly service. What more could you want?
Need to improve ventilation.
Stingy wine pour. Food was exceptional but service extremely slow. Forgot to bring bread we’d ordered to have with the soup. The duck breast and Brussels sprouts were exceptional.
We eat at Octavia once a week, it is one of the best restaurants in SF and we always feel at home and love everyone there!!!! Kim and Clarence Barker
We chose the chef selection and had the most wonderful dinner experience. The food is over the top! The accompanying wine suggestions were excellent. We had delightful conversations with the staff in German, French and English - what a treat :)
Had a wonderful anniversary dinner! I highly recommend going there😋
We were celebrating my boyfriends bday and they had a sweet card at the table when we arrived! The entire evening the service was perfect! Our server was so kind and the food was delicious!!!!! We did the chef tasting menu and the portions were more than enough food! We left full and very pleased with everything!
My only complaint is that the wine pour was stingy.
From start to finish everything excellent. Good wine list even by the glass. Dishes good for sharing so we get to try more flavors. Bread and butter ‘worth eating’ usually overlooked but not here Duck very special
Always a pleasure to dine here!! Never disappoints!
A lovely room, excellent service and great food. Well worth the visit.
I was disappointed with the tasting menu.
I had had it once and was happy but i was surprised to find such a mediocre tasting menu the 2nd time.
Spent a lot of $$ for average food.
I was a little disappointed that this is one of the famous "Foodie restaurants" now in the Bay Area because, to me, nothing was outstanding except for the very first tasting menu item, an incredible deviled egg.
Servers seemed to want to turn tables; later seatings so I understand
We love our time and dinner here always!!
We had the tasting menu which was described as chefs choice 4 courses. We were amazed and delighted to receive a total of 10 different plates. Great value but for us a real adventure in flavor and seasonal ingredients. Definitely will return.
Such a neighborhood gem! Love Octavia and will keep coming back here for special occasions.
Octavia was truly phenomenal! We really enjoyed dinner on every level.
This is a really good spot to bring your parents to. My dad really enjoyed himself.
Wonderful all the way around (except the restaurant is too noisy). One can only hear one think about the tasty courses as the come out of a highly competent kitchen. Kudos to the whole team. The disciplined and well trained staff work together like a machine —and yet everyone is personable at the same time.
So amazing. Food was excellent. Service was outstanding
Our server was wonderful and the food was delicious!
I took my mother to dinner as a thank you for everything she does to help. The food was delicious and well presented, service was attentive, everyone was patient and friendly with my little one (almost 4yr) and a treat with a candle was brought out at the end to surprise my mom as a thank you! So thoughtful!!
We’re foodies from NYC. This was our favorite restaurant on our trip to SF for the week. Highly recommend. Smaller portions are perfect for tasting. Unpretentious yet highly sophisticated food and atmosphere. Impeccable service from the entire staff. This place surely will not disappoint.
We just made our second trip to this terrific neighborhood spot in San Francisco .. the food and the service are top notch.
Our server was excellent! She recommended the chef tasting menu and we tried a little bit of everything from the menu. Deviled Egg, Red Snapper plus the Steak is a must try!
For our anniversary, we decided to treat ourselves to dinner at Octavia with our daughter. In the past, we've always eaten at Frances which is the epitome of excellent food. Octavia has also been a favorite, but this visit was not up to par. The appetizers were overly salted with too much sauce, the kale salad was drowning in dressing, it almost felt like I was eating soggy soup, the black squid ink pasta had no flavor, the tagliatelle pasta was hard and not cooked to al dente, the red snapper was burnt, overcooked with soggy vegetables floating in the sauce, my daughter ordered the ricotta malfatti which was inedible, she couldn't eat it. This was followed by an unimpressive chocolate financier and I can't even remember what my husband ate. Our waitress never returned to see how we were enjoying our dish, I kept looking for her but she never would come back to our table. Finally a bus boy came and removed our dishes but didn't seem to care that we didn't touch most of our food. At that point, I gave up trying to find someone to talk to. I'm not sure if the regular chef was working, but the dishes did not reflect our past visits.
Highly anticipated and extremely disappointed. First, love the interior, way different from it’s Quince days. Was expecting similar quality food but no. Small uninspired menu. Red Snapper, Duck Confit, Beef Filet, and Ricotta Malfatti(dumplings). Really? I’m so tired of those first 3 I hope never to see them again, so I tried the Malfatti. It wasn’t edible and my wife’s snapper not much better. Both salads were overdressed. The automaton waiter never checked on us or asked if something was wrong. When he took my full plate he said “must have been full “. I was going to let him have it but he never returned, the manager took over and she too ignored everything, just wanted to know if we wanted dessert. Worst SF experience in the 30 years we’ve been visiting.
Perfect and amazing. Incredible service, delicious wine, and the best food on earth.
Not impressed. Ordered cocktails. Before cocktails arrived waiter took our order. Then literally less than 2 minutes later appetizers arrived before cocktails. When I asked server she said cocktails were made downstairs and she would check. Finally arrived as we were finishing appetizers.
Food mixed. Brussels appetizer very good. Tagliatelle was good but not enough sauce for tagliatelle. Profiteroles were great for dessert. But squid appetizer was tasteless. Claimed to have battarga but I sure didn’t see it or taste it. Snapper was slightly over cooked.
All in all a so-so dining experience for a hefty price. Won’t be back.
This is one of my favorites. Always energetic. I’m excited to see what they put together. Plates are perfect for sharing and a good idea so you get a taste of many dishes. Good wine list and don’t forget the bread and butter. It’s worth a mention
Great food and great service. The server had perfect recommendations on wines for each of our dishes on the chefs tasting menu items. Very warm comfortable neighborhood place to eat.
Amazing food with amazing service! The tasting menu was authentic and delicious, and exactly the right amount.
Wonderful food, amazing service tending to food allergies, and a great price tag sharing items between 5 people.
we were 30 mins late and tried to call and let them know but they never pick up the phone, concierge at hotel told us they never pick up the phone....when we get there the reservation was still ok but they said we could only stay like an hour... donno maybe they say that to the ppl who came up late. But we stayed there longer than an hour after all. All went perfect in the end.
We went to Octavia on our last night in San Francisco, and it was the perfect ending to a perfect vacation, with my perfect traveling buddy husband. The food, service, wine, and dessert were fantastic. So glad I found this little gem.
Had amazing Brussel sprouts — the filet mignon and duck breast were incredible. Great service from Samba and Scott.
Service and ambiance were great. The duck and filet were wonderful. We got a dessert, but I cannot remember what it was called— pure heaven.
Food was good, not up to its usual wow factor. Service was quite erratic - we literally had 3 waiters with none of them taking the lead and knowing our wishes. Their attention appeared to be on those guests ordering more wine and having the tasting menu. I thought the overall experience was just ok for a lesser priced restaurant but didn't deliver anything special for my wife's 60th birthday. I almost never write reviews but she was pretty upset with our family being ignored
Amazing service, food, and price. So much detail goes into the food. Well worth it!
