We really enjoyed the food and wine. Unfortunately the service was a bit disappointing.
We always love our dinner and time with everyone on the staff 👍
One of the best meals I’ve had in SF this year and a great value to boot.
As always, fantastic! One of the top 5 in SF. We had a small service snafu - they forgot our dessert, but they made up for it! Highly recommend!
Food was excellent. This was our second time to visit Octavia and it never fails to surprise us with new menu and delicious food. We did the blind chefs tasting menu with wine pairing. The menu just had enough food for 2 people, and dessert was included. We love to try different restaurant in San francisco and this is always a favorite for us.
The best valued tasting menu I ever had. I wish I had a bigger stomach.
We live in SF and are real foodies. Simply put, Octavia is the best restaurant in SF. Great food, great service, great space and not stuffy. Bravo Octavia!
The food was excellent but the service was not up to the experience. It took 30 minutes after being seated for our waiter to get our drink order. The waiter we started with was not the waiter we ended with and there
Outstanding experience! The food is terrific and the service is very professional and low-key. I dealt over the phone with Arielle as to a number of special requests and she couldn’t have been nicer or more accommodating. A perfect time!
This was a great meal. We got the chef's menu ($70/person) for the 2 of us and it was served family style with about 9 or 10 dishes (or more) over 5 or 6 courses. Every single dish was delicious. Where to start: the egg, the pasta, the salads, the beef and all 3 desserts, all wonderful. And the bread (house made at no charge with chef's menu) was also amazing. The service was great..friendly, available, just right. I will definitely return.
One the very best of its kind in sf and always good in every respect.
One of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco and one of the best rated restaurants in town for a reason.
It does not get any better than a dinner at Octavia!!!! Our favorite place in SF!!
Food was fantastic. Service was slow. Dinner Sunday night took almost 3 hours
Went here to celebrate with a friend. The food is good, the ambiance is great. Was slightly underwhelmed with our server and the staff when they put food on the table but overall a good experience.
Excellent food. Very flavorful. Innovative without being contrived. Wish we could have tried everything on the menu. Perfect service. Fun ambiance. Definitely recommend. Eager to return. Wonderful evening.
Lovely ambiance (energetic but not too loud). Waiter allowed me to taste a few different wines until I found something I truly enjoyed. Side note: The deviled egg is really just a soft boiled egg; the waiter actually suggested I eat it with a spoon when he brought it to the table. So, if you don’t like a super runny yoke, don’t order Octavia’s version of a deviled egg!
I had an amazing meal on my way out of San Francisco. The staff was amazing and welcome. I would definitely recommend!
Once again, we are always in awe of how delicious the food and wine are and how delightful the entire staff is....everyone makes us feel so at home and it is obvious looking around at others they are enjoying it as well!!

We went for our anniversary, and had a lovely evening. The chef's tasting menu was superb. Very highly recommend!
Had an early dinner prior to going to a show. The food and service were outstanding. The only issue was the noise level was high. I will go back. Great attention to detail in food.
Things we liked - Ambiance, small menu, attentive wait staff, coat check facility. The green garlic soup, little gems salad, deviled eggs and squid ink noodles were standouts as far as the food is concerned.
Things we didn't like - having to place our entire order upfront rather than being able to order things as and when you'd like. Apparently, this is so that the kitchen can 'plan better', but with the format of food being served here (small shareable plates) we thought it adversely affect us the overall experience. Also, the entrees lacked pizzazz while they were good, none of the flavors really popped in the bass or the duck.
Great ambiance! Love the open and airy dining room. Great value for prix fixe menu. So much food and great way to explore the menu. Food is always delicious and always feel welcome there. Octavia is one of my favorite restaurants in SF!
This was an amazing experience from start to finish. No need to sell this creative menu, flavors are incredible, service impeccable
I wish I could say that our dinner was great. It wasn’t though. It was just barely average. The service was a mix of very good and sloppy. Hot entrees came lukewarm and salads came so overdressed as to be inedible. Even when out salad was remade, it was gloppy with dressing. Both starters came after a long wait - but before our wine - and as an result, the meal just felt like it was missing professionalism. We had to ask for ice twice and the same for the olive oil we asked for to accompany our bread. My dinner partner loves the food here and at their sister restaurant, Frances, but they both suffer from the same service malaise. In addition, the restaurant is loud and the tables are way too close together for comfort. I really don’t want to hear everyone else’s loud conversations louder than the one at our table. I won’t go back.
Celebrating my husband’s 50th. We went with the tasting menu. It did not disappoint. Everything we ate was incredible
A step down from previous visits. The food was fine, the service was good but overall I think Octavia has slipped a bit. Age discrimination? We arrived on time; we're dressed at or above the average style for the restaurant and certainly didn't look like out-of-town tourists... but even with multiple 2 person tables available we were seated in the back corner next to the rest room queue and where the servers jostled with each other and the bathroom line to spill over into our table space. Admittedly we did not fall into the dominant youngish demographic, but I don't think we were likely to ruin the dining experience for the rest of the customers. Maybe I long for the former Baker and Banker that used to occupy the space. Probably won't go back.
Best dining experience we have had in our two week SF visit
Outstanding - our best meal in San Francisco on our 4 day trip!!
Fabulous venue and fabulous food... might need to fix the rest rooms to cope with the busy venue, not sure people want to line up for one rest room.
Heard this restaurant was good, so I decided to book a reservation. Arrived on time for our 8:30 res, had to wait about 15 mins for our table along with several others. Waiter was ok, no personality, which was fine definitely not concerned, just made it awkward if anything and the food was good, nothing special.
It was a dining experience. Excellent dinner for a reasonable price.
Went on a Saturday evening. We were greeted warmly into a modern yet cozy restaurant. Service was prompt and friendly, each dish was beautifully presented and perfectly seasoned, desserts were scrumptious. Our group of 4 enjoyed the experience of food at a high-level in a non-pretentious environment. Highly recommend.
Wow, food was excellent. Bread was to die for. Tasting menu price is very reasonable, loved the shared aspect. Worth it.
Pretty poor experience. We decided to do the tasting menu and it took 2.5 hours for entrees. We had to leave and didn’t eat the main course or dessert. Not to mention, when we walked in and asked for a table in the corner, we were told it’s reserved. Ironically a few friends walked in and were sat there. Wouldn’t recommend this place.
We eat at Octavia once a week, it is our favorite restaurant in SF....we both had the duck leg confit and it was the BEST dish we had ever had anywhere!!! WE love our time there and it is always a special experience!! Kim and Clarence Barker
Service was very underwhelming. Brought own bottle of wine, wine was not once being re-poured - normally don't care but this is a Michelin star place. Was told there was one last steak left, we ordered it. But somehow a table across from us came 30 mins after, was able to get another "last steak". There are other ways to up-sell the steak without lying and cover blown lol. Not sure what the hype is with their deviled eggs- anyone with sou vide and chili flakes might be able to duplicate something similar. The best items were beef tartar, oysters and the soup! I'd like to try the chef's menu $70/ 10 course next time, but really would have to be convinced.
We have been to Octavia a number of times before. This time the noise level was deafening,
wait person strange and food not great. The duck was awful... won’t be back soon
Innovative cuisine, superb service. Highly recommend the fixed price menu
The food was good but not impressed. The small bites were just okay. Regular size appetizer and main dishes were good on the other hand. Service was at top notch and the ambience is cozy.
