Start to finish it was wonderful! We had a great time. Every person we encountered working at Octavia extended the utmost kindness and the wealth of their experience and recommendations. I loved everything about the restaurant! A special thanks to David for being so accommodating and the woman who took our order and helped us w/ out gift certificates- both were so helpful and friendly. Thank you for providing such a lovely evening for me and my dear friend. Take care!

I appreciated the staff taking the time to find a wine I liked. It made the whole experience that much better. We did the tasting menu and it was superb. As most newer places, it was very loud. I personally, have a hard time having a conversation with someone when the noise level is that high. It would not stop me in returning to Octavia, though.

Stunning! The food was spectacular! Elevated old favorites like tomato soup or pork chop to a level beyond! Flavor profiles were awesomely.

I had been here before and had good memories, today all this was simply reinforced: food fresh and well prepared, great selection of wines, service impeccable, friendly and competent - the atmosphere is warm and cozy, ice to be sitting in there while enjoying some delicious meal

We love Octavia, but so many of the dishes we had were very spicy this particular time. We're not into spice that much, so we didn't enjoy it as much as in the past. Next time we will ask more pointed questions concerning the spice level.

Super! I was delighted with everything. I had the tagliatelle with melted fennel, a Sicilian-inspired dish that was better than anything I ate in Sicily. The fennel pollen ice cream with almond cake parfait was one of the best, lightest, most satisfying desserts I’ve had in recent memory. The shshito pepper appetizer with corn soup and stone fruit was just so-so; I guess I’m not a fan of shishito peppers, which have a sour, bitter taste that disappointingly reminds me of green bell peppers (I avoid green bell peppers whenever possible. I think they’re a palate killer.). But that was my fault for not knowing what I was getting into with shishito peppers.

Octavia is our neighborhood go-to and have been visiting monthly since its opening. We also LOVE Frances.

We went last week for our anniversary. They gave a great table, greeted us as always and got our wine and apps without a flaw. Then, things slowed down dramatically.

After a very long wait, the hostess showed up with an amuse bouche and asked us the “tell her what we thought of it.” She walked away and no one came by for a very long time. When she finally came back, she brought a salad we didn’t order and said our entrees were being plated. Another long wait.

Our original server came by (no more hostess!) and said our entrees were on their way and that the reason things were slow was that “we have a private party at the chef’s table.”

Okay, first of all there is nearly always a group at the chef’s table. Second, no one ever admitted that they screwed up or apologized. They just astounded us in pretending all was good. Finally, our meat was undercooked and chewy (a “petite filet”).

We love Melissa as a chef, but we have noticed a lapse in service over the past couple of years. We hope Octavia regains its status as one of SF’s hidden gems.

The spinach salad was great with very fresh ingredients. The pork chop was perfectly cooked and very nice presentation. A very good wine list and excellent advice and wine description from the server. Overall a very good experience.

Had to wait 20 minutes for our table :-(
When we checked in they even asked if we wanted to go outside and come back later!! But they did not define later. There is not a lot of options to wait outside on Octavia and we do not live in the neighborhood, we decided to wait inside.

We arrived early but were seated promptly. The restaurant was experiencing a ventilation problem and it was noticeably warm. The server explained and apologized for the problem noting that we would have full memu service but later reservations were cancelled and that they would close early. Aside from the warm (but not hot) temperatures, all else was normal and we had a great dinner. A very tasty salmon dish was followed by a small slice of cheese cake for dessert. We were given a loaf of "Octavia" bread along with another apology for the HVAC problem as we departed. The entire staff worked to make our evening enjoyable and successful.

Only complaint was that we were seated 20ish minutes after our reservation and there was no bar or area for us to wait. The food and service made up for It though, will definitely go back next time in town!

Wonderful dinner. My husband had the filet and I had the polenta. Fresh food and full of flavour. We had a pretty spot in the corner - lovely low lighting. Nice bottle of Zinfandel, too.

You are absolutely killing it.
We had a wonderful dining experience at Octavia on Thurs eve.
Loved the food from the deviled egg to the Rib eye( as good as any I’ve had anywhere.
Service was just right.
I thanked Ana( seemed to be the manager that eve) and asked her to pass my congratulations to the owner, management and staff for providing an intelligent, delicious and classy dining experience

Very crammed and noisy place. The feeling I had all evening was that the main concern of the staff was 'how can we get the dinners out the door the quickest way possible so we can pile new clients in'. Very unpleasant.
Our waiter was not pleasant, inattentive and really didn't look as if he enjoyed being there. Accidentally he even elbowed me in the face whilst serving the table next to us and only apologised after I pointed out to him that I would welcome some acknowledgement on his part (basic social skills he didn't seem to have). The food was OK but I will certainly not recommend the place to anyone. There seemed to be enough people willing to queue without Octovia needing my recommendation.

We had reasonably enjoyable meals. Deviled egg, i didn’t get it sine it’s a soft boiled egg on top of vegie something. Duck liver mousse was okay as the jam & dates added too much sweetness. Both the pork chop & petite file were very juicy & tender. The polenta was perfectly runny but the mushroom toppings were too salty for me. To be precise, the food rating would be 3-1/2 stars.
The service was a bit slow & attentiveness is moderate.
