The food was outstanding and the service was very friendly and authentic
I highly recommend the tasting menu with the wine pairing. It was oh so perfect. The pacing of meal, sizes of dishes and wine selection were all outstanding. The service was also wonderfully attentive. Graham is a gem!
Always a treat! Love Octavia every time.
A perfect birthday dinner. Service and food were divine. Can't wait to go back.
An absolute treat of a dining experience. We had the tasting dinner and there wasn't a bad bite in the bunch. The service was excellent too. Very professional but with a comfortable vibe, which also suited the lovely decor and accessible menu.
Tasting menu - everything was fantastic especially the Lu ache, butter lettuce salad, pork collar, salmon, and dessert (ALL the dessert). Also one of the nicest outdoor seating setups in SF.
Outstanding service and food. Brought my wife here for her birthday and noted the occasion when I made the reservation. They had a nice birthday dessert with a candle ready to go after dinner. Highly recommend.
Delicious food and outstanding service. One of my favorite restaurants in SF.
great ambiance but the chefs choice menu was not good. Everything was incredibly salty, save for the bread and dessert.
Host was excellent
Server not very helpful or friendly
Food was very good but nothing that special but pricing is outrageous for portions
The space is cold
Was seated street side with multiple times of fire and EMT vehicle calls.
Loud sirens not a great dining experience.
Staff was attentive and informative.
Chicory salad was fabulous
Squid app: maybe if the legs sections were crispy to add more contrast of textures would be outstanding as well, please try it.
My new favorite place! Amazing food and wine, marzipan torte was to die for. We are definitely coming back.
“Outside” table had little circulation of air. Fairly close quarters with a very noisy large party complete with yapping gig next to us. We were table of 3 and found conversation, under the circumstances very difficult. Portions were small. But should have given our waiter, Kevin, a five star rating—very nice & went extra steps to be helpful.
We enjoyed every course, great ambiance, service and food.
An all around wonderful meal.
Decadent. Exceeded expectations
Nice low-key, but special way to celebrate New Years.
Overall the food was pretty good- the quail, in particular, was fantastic. Great wine list. Unfortunately they ended up not having several things on the (already small) menu after we’d ordered. Our service experience was fair. The server was very nice but we were offered a free glass of wine, then the offer was rescinded, then we were offered a free dessert which we were then charged for. The place is quite small and tables pretty close together, so just be aware if you’re being super Covid-safe.
Parklet was not as safe as I had expected or hoped.
the food always exceeds expectations. the service is flawless. the wine list is extensive. always a peak experience.
The food was excellent: Inventive, high quality and very tasty. The wait staff were very helpful, accommodating and friendly. However: If you want outdoor dining because of concerns about Covid, this is NOT the place to go (and this is my only reason for not giving 5 stars in all categories). To me outdoor dining means a place that is actually outdoors, with a roof or umbrellas and at most low walls to allow free air circulation, and typically electric or gas heaters overhead to provide warmth. Instead the Octavia outdoor area is almost completely enclosed except for a narrow opening near the roof, with a curtained entrance and one heater at the opposite end that cannot heat the whole space. This is actually much worse than an indoor space with windows open and good HVAC, which would also require proof of vaccination status (unlike the supposed "outdoor" space at Octavia). My party did manage to sit near the entrance and kept the curtains open to allow air circulation, but were thus rather cold as a result of no heaters nearby.
Amazing service and best experience. Great food !
Fabulous! Great service! Interesting food. Will definitely be back!
Went for a Christmas Eve pri fixe meal - it was beautiful! Friendly staff, great ambiance, and larger portions than expected. Highly recommend.
Christmas Eve family style dinner. good but not up to Octavia standards. Wine pairing was good. Noisy on the podium until one four top left. then quiet. we love Octavia.
Wonderful food and truly amazing service
A truly disappointing experience. It appears to me that Octavia has two distinct classes of diners. Those fortunate enough to reserve in the main room are treated to a charming room, elegant and comfortable. The others dine in wooden cabins, set up on the sidewalk. Seating is back-wrecking wooden patio furniture. A ceiling mounted heater is woefully inadequate to provide warmth to the diners on a windy and chilly San Francisco winter evening. A complaint to the disinterested would-be wit of a waiter was dismissed out of hand.
The good news: despite the truly cruddy, fast-food joint style atmosphere, diners pay exactly the sane price as in the main room…
The food… well, despite a truly excellent swordfish, and a fine steak, the chill in the room seems to cool down the food quickly. At 220$ for two, it feels like a slap in the face to feel obliged to gulp down the meal, so as to get the hell out more quickly.
This feels like a shameless money grab to me. Either the outdoor booths should feature discounted dining, or the management should feel obliged to vastly improve the comfort level.
I feel abused and ripped off.
I don't get this place. The fettuccine had nice flavor, and it was of course house made, but they didn't separate/dust the strands with enough flour so there were clumps of undercooked pasta all over the dish. This is $30 - what a waste. The ribeye ($42) was cool when it arrived at the table, and it was more on the blue/rare side. That is not a particularly pleasant temperature for ribeye - you do get quite a bit of unrendered fat that is cold and hard. There were also large chunks of gristle my partner had to pull out of his mouth in a large strand - it was hard to see the gristle since the lighting is so dim.
There were a ton of "exotic" ingredients and methods listed on the dishes, but I do not think they make anything stand out in a meaningful way - you just keep searching if that sherry vinegar dressing is really smoked. Sure, there are Urfa peppers there, but I do not taste Urfa peppers. (My family is originally from the Urfa region of Turkey and we eat that stuff by the kilo.) All in all, you get an alienating experience that does not at all feel worth it. Maybe there were having a real off night - but some of the errors feel quite appalling - like the ribeye. Ooof.
Also, the server was so curt. I get it, Covid, closures, it's been a tough go. But help me help you. Come on.
Amazing experience at Octavia for my boyfriends birthday. We did the chef’s tasting menu with wine pairing and every dish and pairing was phenomenal. It was raining and we sat outside but the ambiance was still amazing and we were very warm. The waiter was so friendly and attentive to make sure we had a great celebration and took extra care of my boyfriend’s allergies. Overall fantastic experience that exceeded expectations!
The food was delicious, but one item wasn’t cooked as ordered so we had to send it back. There was a very long delay between clearing the first items we ordered and the mains - at least 30 minutes! I think the big issue is that Octavia doesn’t treat their outside diners as they should - heating was woefully insufficient (one heater for 4-5 outdoor tables) so we were very cold, even with the blankets they provided. And I think we were forgotten by staff because we were sitting outside, which is why there was such a delay and we saw few wait staff some by. For a $300 meal, I expect better service and more inviting outdoor accommodations.
The food was very expensive and portions small and lackluster taste. Pasta w/ crab so tasteless. Pasta way too al dente, a spot of crab- none you could taste. And just cream poured over. They top it with tiny red peppers, which kill any crab taste there might be. Service and atmosphere perfect. Waiter didn’t know the wine by the glass descriptions. Said A white was dry and not sweet, and it was not dry and very sweet!
The food and service was outstanding, but the standout star of the experience was the semifreddo dessert. Best restaurant dessert experience I've had in years.
Pasta was not cooked
Too long of a wait between starters and entree.
Excellent! Service was amazing, we felt so catered to and had a lovely time. Memorable experience for sure!
Ps. Dessert is absolutely to die for!!!!
Food was underwhelming and underseasoned. We got the black cod and cannelloni, the beef short rib toast and the chocolate dessert saved the night.
Sitting outside doesn't feel great either, there's no music and the only thing you can hear are the cars.
$$$$ Food + Wine Pairing Birthday Celebration
Absolutely delicious food , wine, service and ambiance. It got a little loud but not too bad. Highly recommend and I am looking forward to returning .
Food and service were excellent! Can’t wait to go back.
Parklet is nicely done and heated but it was quite enclosed with very few gaps for air at the top. But since the parklet consists of three smaller units, it was quiet and not crowded, which was great.
