Serving tasting menu family style can work if executed well. It was not this night for 4 of us. There was Insufficient quantity of food and none of us are big eaters. Quality of food was mediocre and does not measure up to my prior visits pre COVID. The big miss for me was the chef’s selection. We were on 2nd seating of the night and by the time we arrived, 2 of the popular appetizers were out?! Instead of making an effort to compensate as would be expected for a restaurant with a Michelin star, we were served double order of cheese puffs which were lukewarm and not particularly good?! That’s a shame for a restaurant i had previously recommended to others. We were seated in COVID styled wooden shack at the curb. No atmosphere to speak of. All this at a total bill >$700 for 4x tasting menu and 3x wine pairing. No longer recommended.
Great wine (we tried 6) and decent service. Beet salad and avacado Tempura were unoriginal but not bad. Pasta dishes were ok. I grew up in an Italian family so expectations are high. You can get much better pasta dishes elsewhere in SF. But, the shockingly unimpressive and, may I say, a bit gross, was the Black Cod Entrée! Two big fish tails and a neck. Lots of soggy fish skin. barely any meat (maybe 3 bites and I’m not Exaggerating) it was just so bad. So so so bad. This was a birthday celebration and it was a major bust. Very unfortunate because their bread and wine was amazing!
Elegant. Understated. Comfortable. Wonderful staff. Beautiful decor. Perfectly cooked dishes. Incredible wine list. Very, very special.
Food was good and nicely prepared. Service was great, and cozy atmosphere. Came here for a birthday celebration and they surprised us with a candled dessert at the end, appreciated that.

My first time at Octavia and the experience was outstanding!!! We ordered the steak tartare with bone marrow, a pasta dish and the short ribs. It was fantastic. Can’t wait to come back.
Service was good. Parklet for outdoor dining was nicely constructed. But the food was subpar. One dish was comped due to being less than appetizing (to be nice), which we appreciated. I’ve been to Octavia a few times prior to the pandemic and it was great. I’m not sure what happened, but I will not be returning.
Food was terrific -- the Black Cod was the best -- tender and tasty. Noise level was uncharacteristically high. We were there at 6:30 and people coming from their work were really super energetic to get out and get away and just exploded with conversation. Loud is an understatement.
Great service, great food, great wine list! What more could you ask for? We were seated outside and with the heat lamps, it was quite cozy!

Amazing food and service. Our server, Zach, was awesome and gave us some great food and wine recommendations. Everything we ordered was so incredible. A couple standouts were the quail, the tartare, the 46 egg yolk tajarin, and the semifreddo. Also worth mentioning is their outdoor parklets. They basically built small dining rooms that have a good amount of airflow, keep out the sounds of Bush St., are warm enough that you don’t need a jacket, and make feel like you’re in a nice restaurant. If you haven’t been it’s definitely worth checking out.
The steak tartare was one of the best thing I’ve ever eaten. The wine list was also a great supplement to the food
I had high hopes for Octavia, but unfortunately I agree with the latest reviews of Octavia. Octavia is not the restaurant it used to be and has fallen far from its Michelin star days. Service was good (referring to our friendly waiter), but cadence of dishes was off- we waited far too long in between courses and were a bit restless by dessert. THey also got our order wrong and we had to wait even longer. Normally restaurants make of for this in some way, but Octavia did not. Dishes were unfortunately all over salted and most dishes were uncreative, aesthetically displeasing, and/or poor value. Sadly, I suggest taking your patronage elsewhere if you are looking for elevated fine dining.

This is a fantastic place for dinner with good outdoor space. It can be expensive but delivers innovative seasonal dishes that you won't find anywhere else
This place has a lovely ambiance. Very romantic, modern, cute. While the service was great, the food was underwhelming.
We opted to do the 4 course pre-fix meal… DON’T DO IT. We didn’t realize it was family style so you’re sharing the prefix plates/meals.
It wasn’t worth it in my opinion. We’ve done other pre-fix meals where we get out own plates. It was too much of a hassle trying to eat from the same small plates.
The squid ink pasta was extremely salty white the halibut barely had any flavor.
All desserts were extremely overly sweet. Didn’t enjoy any of the three we had.
Will not be returning here. Save yourself money.
The produce dishes are amazing - but didn’t feel the main dishes were of equal quality in both taste and presentation.

William our server was terrific! Appetizers were all excellent. Duck, main course a bit fatty and wait for main course was long. Overall, a very nice evening.
Octavia dinner was great from start to finish. We shared three appetizers … all delicious from squash, Brussels sprouts little gems salad … two pastas including fabulous chicken stuffed cannelloni and stunningly presented desserts … everything was flavorful and healthy. The service was wonderful. Great evening. Thank you !!
Local favorite. Food is always excellent & loved being able to bring my pup and sit outside.
Second time at the restaurant. First trip was excellent, this time not so much. We did the tasting menu. Things were coursed poorly (in part because we were sat 30ish minutes late for an 8:30 reservation and I think they were trying to course us so we didn’t stay too late after closing. We were the last table at the restaurant.) We couldn’t eat fast enough and food kept getting dropped on the table, lending to hot dishes getting cold. Halibut was dry and bland, anchovy dish was overwhelming and salty. Desserts were fantastic. Service was good, although instead of pitching the tasting menu, would have been nice to give a heads up that based on timing, maybe not the best idea. Likely won’t return. Definitely not worth the bill.

The food was delicious! The service was really great as well. I happened to have some noisy diners beside me which made it a bit hard to hear, but not much the restaurant can do about that. The service was great and considering it is a pretty nice restaurant with unique menu items, it wasn't terribly overpriced.
One minor complaint - I wish you could order a few items at a time and add additional plates after your first order (they make you order everything except dessert all at once).
They forgot about the birthday celebration while they were sending birthday cakes to other tables left and right. First time we’ve been there amazing, but this time it was disastrous. We counted the minutes so we can leave.
I've never had anything other than a delicious meal at Octavia. The service is excellent and the ambience is warm and inviting. An added bonus is being able to hear what your dinner companion is saying without effort.
