The food was exceptional. The last time I was there I was a little confused by the use of the same ingredient in different dishes. On my second visit, I really enjoyed how the chef plays with flavors similar (but different) in each course.
The accompaniments to each dish (salad under steak, e.g.) were as wonderful as the main attraction. We can see why one reviewer claimed to visit every week. Not inexpensive, but not outrageously priced, either. Noise level could be improved -- perhaps with a rug or fabric wall hangings. Next time, we'll seek a table near the perimeter.
A waitperson carefully explained each dish about which we sought information, and went out of his way to ensure my nut allergy was not challenged.
Great setting with amazing food!
WE LOVE AND ADORE THE ENTIRE EXPERIENCE AT OCTAVIA....beginning with the people, all we love and they are so dear to us and take great care to always make our evening a very special one!! Robert the chef de cuisine does a beautful job bringing out the flavors of the delightful dishes...we eat at Ocatavia once a week when we are home, this week we are joining them 3 times!! How lucky we are....Kim and Clarence Barker
Excellent menu choices and very trendy atmosphere! Service was outstanding and our waiter, Eric, was very knowledgeable on the food preparations and his recommendations were excellent! Will return during our next trip!
Soooooo good! If it’s your first time, get the tasting menu!
The food here was something to dream about. Not only was it a unique menu but everything complimented each other with a touch of freshness. Normally places like this, I'd recommend for a date but with all the options on the menu that should be tried, this is perfect for a group that wants to share. Definitely don't leave without having dessert!
First time to Octavia but will go back every time I go to SF as I have it's sister restaurant, Frances!! These people do it perfectly. And I understand she is opening a restaurant in LA??
I love Frances!! and now I love Octavia, too! Best dining experiences, once could have.
A very nice meal with lots of seasonal produce thoughtfully put together. Everything was cooked perfectly and seasoned appropriately. Also reasonably priced for the quality and in a nice small space. It was our last meal in San Francisco and a good one after a couple of duds the previous nights.
Loved the chef’s blind tasting menu - so much delicious food!
Outstanding meal all around. Wagyu tartare was delicious. We shared the king salmon and polenta mains, and they are very nicely complmentary. Desserts were all good, esp. the berry tart. Excellent dinner. Highly recommended.
We were a group of 4 and we started with 4 appetizers. The blistered pepper with corn pudding and summer fruit was exceptional. All 4 starters were delicious. Oh, and the bread was so yummy it was hard to hold back. My pork chop was very good but it had a little too much fat on it for my taste. One of my friends ordered the steak and he said it was cooked to perfection. I got the devil's food cake which was a lovely way to end a most enjoyable dinner. My friends and I look forward to returning to Octavia for another delicious dinner.
We tried the chef's menu. Overall the dishes were delicious, but they generally were at the extremes so that the overall experience was good but not excellent. Some dishes were exploratory, exciting, and new either by the way it was prepared or the way it was presented but some dishes were just outright boring because they were the typical dishes you'd see at any restaurant which is just disappointing for a Michelin rated restaurant. These two extremes created a bit of an averaged out experience for the main courses. However, the dessert was absolutely phenomenal, definitely creative, and just absolutely decadent, which made up for some of the disappointing main course dishes (i.e summer squash pasta and salmon). Other than that, the staff were amazingly attentive that really puts you in a friendly environment and I've definitely enjoyed the overall experience.
Fantastic food and wonderful staff. Enjoyed the unique dishes and flavor profiles.
We continue to love Octavia, we eat there once a week when we are able and LOVE it more each time, everyone is so wonderful and the food is outstanding, the best in SF!!!
Food was good but didn’t leave me wanting to rush back.
I m very happy to have dinner with my friend at Octavia, this is my second time to have dinner here , but this time I feel little bit different about the waiter which serving us , not too much smile and we tried to ask for the chef choice for 4 courses meal he told us cannot tell us what dishes are , we both feel little bit strange , actually we already sit there and decide to have dinner there why not we can’t know what food will serve for 4 course , anyway we afraid something we might not eat so we decided to order a la cart ! The food all good and I loved to get a corner seat as well !
My new favorite San Francisco restaurant. The bread alone is worth the trip...maybe the best bread I have ever tasted!
the noise level was so high that I was numb by the end of the meal. They need to do some engineering to reduce this negative effect.
The menu and food was beautifully presented and prepared. However, having to yell across the table for an hour and asking my guess to constantly repeat damped the experience.
Great ambiance in the restaurant, and overall one of the best meals I've had in San Francisco. Would highly recommend the tasting menu. It's a ton of food, so only do if you're hungry, but it's a great value.
Visiting San Francisco after the Gilroy garlic festival on Sunday. Reservation for two was easy to get at the last minute. The hostess was very sweet and considerate. Our waitress was good (however not too friendly). The food was excellent, we had the chef’s tasting menu. Will come back the next time we’re in San Francisco!
BGM was not so good - a bit loud, difficult to talk silently but food was good especially we loved the pork, which was so juicy and tender. Worthy to try.
Casual classy elegant vibe. Friendly and knowledgeable wait staff. Delicious food. I have been twice now. Once to celebrate my engagement/birthday. Then a second time when I took my parents out to celebrate their birthdays. The waitstaff make sure to make it a special occasion without making it a spectacle.
Absolutely enjoyed my time at Octavia! Sharing my experience with my parents. Thank you All!
Absolutely amazing in every way! I cannot recommend enough!
Still our very favorite restaurant in the city, it feels like home with outstanding food, wine and friends that take care of us while we are there, it is our happy place!!
Casual atmosphere who generous portions; delicious entrees and desserts
We went to another Michelin starred restaurant recently and concluded Octavia had better food and was a better value.
The wait staff was attentive and professional
A bit noisy for true romantic evening
Excellent all around. My new favorite restaurant.
It’s pricey, and there’s a limited selection, but for a special occasion, worth it! We shared the butter leaf lettuce salad, the polenta, and the pork chop. All dishes were excellently prepared, and delicious. My favorite thing was the bread- so good we ordered two!
Realmente LEJOSSSS de un restaurante de una estrella michelin. La comida regular. El servicio amable pero normal. Realmente no se entiende porque el galardón.
Our dining experience was outstanding! We had a reservation for Sunday night, but Octavia reached out via text and phone call to inform us that they had to close due to a power outage. They could not of been more apologetic for having to cancel and invited us to push our reservation to the following night without hesitation. Once we arrived the hostess realized they had to cancel the night before, so she asked us about our day, and our favorite types of wine. She then brought us out a complementary glass of Sauvignon Blanc and apologized again for having to cancel.
Throughout the dining experience, we had nothing but the best service and food (we did the chef’s tasting menu). They even gave us a course compliments of the chef, which they didn’t have to do after the complimentary wine.
Needless to say, this is one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had and they deserve every part of the Michelin Star they have received.
I highly recommend to anyone that enjoys a great and very delicious dinner!
Great Staff! Friendly and helpful! They made the experience.
Food was outstanding! Service was outstanding!
I had somewhat higher expectations and was looking forward to going here. Unfortunately, it did not
Live up to the hype. Our beef tartar was mediocre with weird texture. The butter lettuce salad was good. My salmon main entree was a complete disaster. I asked for
Medium well and it came well done and chewy. The green beans overcooked slushy was salty and tasted like midwestern green beans casserole from canned beans. My partner’s pork chop was also mediocre and he said he can make it better at home (he is not much of a cook). Overall. an expensive and mediocre meal. Will not go back for a long time till their menu changes.
We ordered all our in the beginning. It was coursed out so painfully slow. A table of 2 shouldn’t have to wait 2 and 1/2 hours to dine.
Simply the very very BEST.....Kim and Clarence Barker
Never felt so “undeserving” or less than anywhere in my life.
Food was amazing. Service a little slow but still very good. For the money the best dinner I had in San Francisco.
Excellent food and service at a refined and elegant location. The pork chop was delicious!
