Really great ambiance and the tasting menu was a good value at $70/ per person.
my favorite restaurant in SF....love everyone there and they all feel like our family, Kim and Clarence Barker
Had a marvelous birthday celebration for my wife. Great dishes and fun preparations.
Excellent use of vegetables. However the tasting menu was substantial for two of us. We took some portions of the dishes home due to the amounts served.
Will definitely recommend restaurant to our family and friends. We will be back.
The food was delicious flavors were on pointe! We had the crab tagetelle and mignon. We also had some sides beef tartare and squid ink noodles. Wish we had time for dessert.
Service was subpar. Food was good, but for the cost you could spend your money better elsewhere.
Every dish we had was outstanding. Wine list was superb yet accessible. Get the levain, try their oysters, and explore with a wine you've never had before. The space was cozy, rustic, and clean. Service was simply smooth and exceptional. Cannot wait to go back!
Great date spot. We were the last seating of the night but were never made to feel rushed. The energy was relaxed but alive. Service was on point and the coursing was paced just right. Deviled Egg and the Squash Soup are a must!
Impeccable service and absolutely delicious food. The squid ink noodles and crab tagliatelle were real standouts, as were the chocolate and kaffir lime desserts. Can't wait to go back.
We came by Octavia by chance as were are staying locally (Visiting from the UK)
From the moment we walked in to take our table we knew that were in for a treat! Our waitress was possible the best that my wife and I had encountered during our many years of restaurant visiting across the globe; she possessed and very detailed knowledge of the menu and the restaurant cooking methodologies, and in particular was well versed in the wine list and took great care in helping us make our choice.
Throughout our time in the restaurant all of the serving staff were engaging, attentive and knowledgable which made our visit one to remember.
The food was exquisite with wide ranging and intriguing tastes throughout.
10 out of 10
Octavia remains our favorite restaurant in SF....fortunetely we are able to walk with it being 5 blocks from our home!! We love the staff and they feel like our family now...Kim and Clarence Barker
Wonderful experience overall, delicious food, and cozy little restaurant totally deserving of a Michelin Star.
This was an amazing value. Food and service were literally perfect. We were very surprised and pleased. Can't wait to go back. Highly recommend.
Really loved the food (took the tasting menu) and the nice service
Will come back :-)
Awesome, start to finish . Kale salad & tagliatelle to start, both outstanding. Red snapper best dish I had in six days of sf dining and Napa.
Excellent food and friendly, professional wait staff
We had a nine-course tasting dinner that we were told changes nightly. We had so much fun! The boldly seasoned and salsa'd whole soft-boiled egg was one of my three favorites, along with sautéed broccolini and tagliatelle with crab - but all of the courses were fine and several aside from my three favorites were really special. Given we chose the tasting menu primarily in response to a menu that's so creative that it's a challenge to non-expert diners, we did really well. Apart from having an amazing dinner - we both thought so - this was all for a total check that was really good value. Also, our server, Martha, chose wines for us to go with the dinner. So often, a set flight of wines to go with a tasting dinner is a stupid amount of wine. We had three glasses of wine, chosen to go especially well with the most key courses, and that was perfect - as even then we left some wine in a couple of glasses, and I love wine as much as most folks do. Overall - bravo to the chef1 Tonight was lots of fun, a really special date night.
Octavia is a great neighborhood joint serving great food with friendly and attentive service.
We went for my birthday dinner, most of us vegetarians. They only had one main course that was vegetarian, a pasta dish, and it was underwhelming. My girlfriend could not make it so she called ahead to order us champagne and have a birthday note delivered, but the waitress never delivered the note -- she was disappointed. The bread and the deviled egg were good, but nothing amazing. The ambience was excellent, but the food was not as great as expected. The prices, however, were very reasonable for a Michelin Star restaurant.
Loved our meal and our waitress, Martha?, who was still in training but you would never know it.
At the start, the dinner seemed promising .... the food dishes sounded interesting and our server selected an excellent white wine with the initial small plates being good - Sweetwater Oyster, Wagyu Tartare, Squash Soup (a little hotter temp would have been better) and Red Snapper ... all very good. The chilled squid ink noodles were blah.
The main entrees looked good, but the taste/texture were not up to expectations.
Main entrees - my daughter had a "Ricotta Malfatti .... malfatti should be flavorful and tender ... these were bland and very dense. My Dungeness Crab Tagliatelle did not work ... the texture and flavors were not in-sync .... this time of year, the crab is usually sweet and flavorful and it was wasted in this dish. The Wagyu beef dish was mediocre.
Having to make reservations at least two weeks ahead coupled with the cost of the meal, I would not make the effort to return. The restaurant is simple, stylish, has good service and a great location in the neighborhood and it's unfortunate that the food overall did not live up to the reviews.
Octavia always has an interesting seasonal menu. We tried the steak tartare, which was unusual and delicious. The crab noodles were great as well. The oysters had great texture, but not especially flavorful.
The service was attentive without being obtrusive. A good staple to have as one of your regulars!
Great food, cozy and warm ambience, and friendly service. What more could you want?
Need to improve ventilation.
Stingy wine pour. Food was exceptional but service extremely slow. Forgot to bring bread we’d ordered to have with the soup. The duck breast and Brussels sprouts were exceptional.
We eat at Octavia once a week, it is one of the best restaurants in SF and we always feel at home and love everyone there!!!! Kim and Clarence Barker
We chose the chef selection and had the most wonderful dinner experience. The food is over the top! The accompanying wine suggestions were excellent. We had delightful conversations with the staff in German, French and English - what a treat :)
Had a wonderful anniversary dinner! I highly recommend going there😋
We were celebrating my boyfriends bday and they had a sweet card at the table when we arrived! The entire evening the service was perfect! Our server was so kind and the food was delicious!!!!! We did the chef tasting menu and the portions were more than enough food! We left full and very pleased with everything!
My only complaint is that the wine pour was stingy.
From start to finish everything excellent. Good wine list even by the glass. Dishes good for sharing so we get to try more flavors. Bread and butter ‘worth eating’ usually overlooked but not here Duck very special
Always a pleasure to dine here!! Never disappoints!
A lovely room, excellent service and great food. Well worth the visit.
I was disappointed with the tasting menu.
I had had it once and was happy but i was surprised to find such a mediocre tasting menu the 2nd time.
Spent a lot of $$ for average food.
I was a little disappointed that this is one of the famous "Foodie restaurants" now in the Bay Area because, to me, nothing was outstanding except for the very first tasting menu item, an incredible deviled egg.
Servers seemed to want to turn tables; later seatings so I understand
We love our time and dinner here always!!
We had the tasting menu which was described as chefs choice 4 courses. We were amazed and delighted to receive a total of 10 different plates. Great value but for us a real adventure in flavor and seasonal ingredients. Definitely will return.
Such a neighborhood gem! Love Octavia and will keep coming back here for special occasions.
Octavia was truly phenomenal! We really enjoyed dinner on every level.
