Oceanique Ratings and Reviews
We had a wonderful dining experience. The service was exceptional and the food was delicious. The plates were visually stunning and flavors outstanding. We were treated to mini tastes in between courses that were delightful. They were able to accommodate my gluten and dairy food intolerances without a problem.
Food was fantastic as usual and the groupon was a great deal with multiple courses. Not huge portions but that is not what we were looking for. Portions were right sized and very high quality and flavorful and plenty of food in the meal. Scallops as an appetizer were outstanding with the kimchi sauce.
Service was good. Drinks were very high priced. My wine was $20 a glass and coffee was $4.50 each. The music was bizarre - spaz jazz was quite loud which is not the ambience we expected in a fine dining restaurant. We asked them to turn it down which they obligingly did. All in all a wonderful evening
Another great meal at Oceanique! Mark and co. simply have “it” when it comes to a fine dine experience without pretentiousness. Food always amazes and the wine selection is second to none. Oceanique has been, and continues to be, our place when we want to have a memorable evening with friends and/or family.
A terrific experience, start to finish. We chose the Autumn tasting menu with wine pairings and could not have been happier. A bwleautifully conceived and executed meal with appropriately sized portions and lovely wines that enhanced the food. Service was perfect - attentive but not overly so - and timing of the courses was superb. We were celebrating a birthday, and they made it a perfect evening.
My wife and I cane here to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary with some friends. The whole experience was outstanding. The Dover sole and halibut were amazing. We ordered 2 desserts and they came out with four! Although the prices were higher than we would normally spend, we would come back in a heartbeat! Great for a special occasion.👍👍👍👍🍸🍸🍸🍸
The service was nearly impeccable and the food was decent and was presented nicely, but overall the restaurant is overpriced. The ambiance was also a bit too old fashioned for my taste, but I appreciated the low noise level.
The food was good, but over priced. The service, however, was sub par. The special that day was the lobster, so my husband and I both ordered it. We had a gift certificate for $50 with the only condition printed on it saying we had to spend a minimum of $100. At the end of our meal the staff refused to honor it in conjunction with the special on the lobster, though there were no conditions on the certificate saying we couldn't order the special of the day. I've never felt so cheated. I will not be returning, and I would urge friends to go to any of the other wonderful restaurants in the area.
When we lived in Evanston, we went there a couple times so it's been over 25 years since dining there. Seems like the only thing that's changed is the over-priced wine selection. They have Everest or Mastro's prices & none of the ambiance! The service was good & attentive. Our waiter was very pleasant & attentive. The food was delicious especially the rack of lamb & the scallops. The desert was also wonderful.
This is one of the few places outside the city limits that we make an effort to go to regularly. Even after several decades it is still an excellent choice for seafood/fish-centric meals. The able hand of Chef Mark still brings forth creative approaches to the dishes and they have special nights during the week for things like dollar oysters and whole lobsters and BYO no corkage (call to confirm which nights are which). There are very few restaurants that have this kind of staying power and there is a reason for that. They are very good at what they do here!
Arrived sat and no server. waited 10 min for a drink order, another 15 for the drinks, not as ordered. ordered one person for many tables. service by everyone else was great we got what we ordered and everything was fine. service sucked prices for what we had where toooooooo high and did not compare to and equal place in this world. I have had dinner all over the world and for 300 bucks I got kissed when I got screwed. never again.
This is a spectacular restaurant with excellent food and an unsurpassed wine list
It is pricey, but the special events menu are good value. We feasted on the Bastille Day menu. The bouillabaisse was fantastic. In between courses, there are palate cleansers.
Complimetary demi sec dessert wine capped the meal along with delicious apple tart and banana based desserts.
Wines range in price from reasonable to carry expensive.
My partner and I came to Oceanique for dinner. We arrived early and it turned out to be during Happy Hour so we both ordered cocktails -- he had a gin martini and I had a Manhattan. The bartender (who also doubled as our server during dinner -- it was a Tuesday evening) was very friendly and chatted with us a bit as he made our drinks. They soak their cherries and make the bar garnishes which is such a nice touch. Dinner was a 5 course tasting menu and everything was fantastic. I have read other reviews about the food being great but the service being so-so. I found the service, from host to busboys, extremely friendly and professional and absolutely delightful.
It has been a while since we last visited Oceanique which at that time was a wonderful restaurant.
While the food was very good, the service was not what we had been used to in this restaurant. While not bad, our waitress did not make us feel like we were anything other than just another customer. She was a bit lax in taking care of us, especially since it was my fiance's birthday and I wanted her to feel special.
In the past, each time we visited Oceanique, we felt like everyone made us feel as if we were in a special restaurant, and they would go out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our evening.
This time it felt like any other restaurant, even though the price is kind of on the high side, especially with the lack of attention by the waitress.
Even the valet parking did not come out to take car of the car, until we went inside an told him we wanted the car parked.
Perhaps it was just an off night for them, at least I hope so. This used to be a very enjoyable place to take my date before we saw a performance at the Cahn Auditorium.
Since we have season ticket we will have to perhaps reevaluate this as our first choice of fine dining restaurant before the performance.
I was hoping for the best based on the prices and menu. Every expectation was surpassed. This place is not cheap and was not the most conveniently located for me personally (I'm from Milwaukee, my date from south Chicago) but it is worth the money and worth the drive. Every single bite was delicious. I have been raving about it to anyone who will listen since that night. We did the 5 course chef's tasting menu and I highly recommend you do it too. Generous portions, 2 courses are your choice and 3 are the chef's surprise. It's an experience, not just a meal. The staff is well trained too. I cannot recommend highly enough.
