Great food, presentation & service- will definitely dine there again.
Great Valentines Day date night. Food, service, and overall experience were excellent. Can’t recommend highly enough. A little pricey for your average date night but a great choice for special occasions.
My only problem with this place is that I never think about it. Incredible food—literally on par with anywhere I’ve been in the world—terrific service, and a really great vibe and atmosphere. Oceanique would delight any foodie on quality, flavor and presentation. If there’s a complaint, and it’s a very minor one, it’s that the wine list is limited in scope and generally a little expensive. But so what, the whole experience here is worth every penny. Just outstanding!
Amazing experience from the time we walked in until the time we walked out. Impeccable service. Beautiful and tasty food. I will definitely be returning. Thank you, Oceanique owners and staff.
We were impressed with the service and the food. We were treated graciously from the moment we walked in the door. During dinner the chef came out and greeted guests at their tables asking how their meals were. Every course was artistically presented and delicious. The white fish was awesome and the warm goat cheese beet salad was spectacular. We will be back.
Enjoyed the excellent Restaurant Week menu!
Everything was perfect. We came on a Monday evening and occupancy was moderate. What the noise level would have been with every table occupied, I can't judge. Our experience was very enjoyable. The service was fine. Everyone was very attentive. Food was beautifully presented and delicious. Next year, I might even bring my adult children.
Loved our experience at Oceanique! Very confused about the negative reviews. Top-notch food, friendly and attentive service, beautiful decor, and great location. We enjoyed the five course tasting menu and had great difficulty deciding which dish was best. My husband loved the pâté, and I loved the bass. Very accommodating of my gluten issues. A real highlight of our weekend in Chicago!
This is is one of the best places to eat in Evanston! We loved it and will go back...everyone should experience the caviar!
We went to Oceanique for a birthday celebration. The food was outstanding as always and the service was very attentive. It also has a quieter more intimate setting which is conducive to conversation.
Food was delicious but restaurant space is very worn looking. Not the type of ambiance you would expect at that price point. Was very loud.
Entree portions seemed small. Food was fresh, but not worth the huge price tag.
Great meal - creative and delicious.
Amazing dining experience, chef owner always makes you feel special! Food is amazing!!
Our evening was a special birthday present for my son, and everything was just wonderful about our experience.
Excellent cuisine and proportions. Every plate was a marvelous sight to behold and the taste was even better.
We had the five course tasting menu via a Groupon. The smoked salmon first course was quite small. The soup & salad (beet & warm goat cheese) were decent portions, and very good. The entrees (Norwegian trout & black sea bass) were again decent portions, and very good, with a special nod to the sea bass. However, the bed of vegetables with the trout were quite bland an forgettable. The desserts (a chocolate cake, and a type of baked apple tart) were both ample portions and quite good.
The service was very good, with the exception of an error on our bill. Which they were very apologetic, and corrected the error immediately.
The reason I wouldn't recommend Oceanique is that unless you have a Groupon like we did, the sticker price does not meet the level of the food.
Excellent food and service. Our server, Sarah and the other staff were very attentive. I particularly appreciate the accommodations to my gluten allergy.
The food was good the service tried to be friendly but a bit pretentious and was double charged for my glass of wine. The table next to us also had a problem with their bill. Could that have been a coincidence or do they make a practice of trying to bilk you.
My favorite local restaurant. I always bring out of town visitors there, and it is my go to place for birthday and Christmas dinners with my monthly dining companions.
Oceanique is one of those restaurants that you really need to visit a few time to get the feel for the place. The food was good. The service was outstanding. My wife and I had the 5-course tasting menu offered through Groupon. We were both surprised by the good portion sizes. Sometimes a tasting menu, the portions can be small, but not here. I am not really going to tell you what we ate, because it changes all the time. My recommendation is to go and try it yourself. I think you will not be disappointed.
Outstanding dining. The fish ( Norwegian trout and halibut) were expertly prepared and delicious. The careful layering of flavors and visual accents enhanced the experience. Service was impeccable but friendly. This is an exceptional restaurant.
Excellent in every way. We have been several times and happy every time.
The restaurant is expensive. The food is terrific. It's quiet. The only issue was the service it was surprisingly bad. It look 25 minutes to get a bottle of wine. When we finished our meal, they cleared everything, including our water even though we planned to stay and talk and they didn't need to flip the table...
We used a Groupon for two for the five course chef's tasting.
Excellent service and excellent food!
Perfect amount of food in every course
We love dining at Oceanique, often for special occasions. The food is awesome and creatively presented. Service is always stellar and they accommodate my dietary restrictions very well. Nice wine list. The ambiance is quiet and pleasant and we are never rushed through our meal. It's pricey but the Groupon offers make it more affordable for us. Always a relaxing and delicious experience.
Loved the whole experience. The food was great. For a five course meal, the portions were huge. We were stuffed by the end the 4th course. The service was also phenomenal. I’d recommend it to all my friends.
My colleagues and I had a lovely fish dinner in a beautiful room. It was quiet enough for us to carry on a conversation.
We've been coming to Oceanique for special occasions for years and the service and inventive and creative cuisine are as wonderful as ever. I am huge fan of the wine pairings that Oceanique offers. A lot of care goes into the selections and the ability to pair with diverse menu items is amazing. The dining room is nice and balances intimate with community.
The good is always creative and if high quality with great service.
We just came back from Paris and this was just as good as a wonderful restaurant in paris
This was a birthday dinner for two, very intimate, and I had a great time with my girlfriend. The only reason I didn’t give five stars is because the server did not bring our wine to the table when we needed it. We had to specifically ask for it when our glasses were empty, and we had ordered a bottle.
I made reservations at this restaurant to celebrate the 20th birthday of my son who studies in Evanston. A few days before we travelled there we found that they were offering a groupon where the 5 course tasting menu was 1/2 price for 2 people so I purchased it. We got there and were seated with a very pleasant staff but as soon as I told the maitre d' that I had a groupon his lips visibly tightened and a scowl came over him. He grabbed all our menus away, copied the code. Now mind you we ordered a 3rd tasting menu at full price. the rest of the night I felt we received substandard service with clear avoidance of eye contact and curt responses from the staff. The water boy was pretty nice though. The food was actually pretty good (nothing spectacular). Since this was my son's birthday I put on a good face and tried to charm the staff to at least treat us decently. Mind you our bill still came out to $300 for the 3 of us and although a gratuity was automatically applied prior to the groupon discount I did not see this so I inadvertently gave them a $70 tip on top of the pre-added gratuity. I don't believe this restaurant has much life to it left except maybe from old time customers. My biggest complaint was that we made a special trip to spend time with him on this special occasion and were made to feel like 2nd class citizens in this "posh" restaurant. We only see him for weekends about 4x during the school year so in my effort to make this extra special I picked what was ranked to be an excellent restaurant. Anyway, no harm done, As I told my wife, if you want to try something new you always have to risk disappointment for the opportunity to find a new great experience. But I will never come back here again. I usually give 5stars very liberally so this is about the lowest I will give.
Love the food here always
Oceanique never fails to come through with outstanding food and service! We had a delightful dinner to celebrate our anniversary. They make great cocktails and every food course was special. Best restaurant in the Chicago area!
Oceanique is always a intimate fine dining experience. Great for special occasions.
Excellent food and service. Only negative is yhat the extensive wine list is either overpriced or doesn't have an offering of reasonably priced wines.
Superb cuisine; capital bar with great gin martini.
We had not dined here in much too long. The food is so great, we will be returning much more frequently. Menu is extensive and has terrific variety but something for everyone. Superb wines.
