In 1989, Mark opened Oceanique in its present-day Evanston location, a charming 1920s Spanish-style building. Mark, with his wife Renée as our General Manager continue to offer discriminating diners some of the most creative and exquisite seafood and meat dishes prepared in the French tradition, with a modern American twist.

We chose the 5 course tasting menu and were very pleased. Presentation, options and quality of the food were all excellent. Service, recommendations and friendliness/attentive as of staff was spot on.
While we didn’t drink, the wine list is extensive.
First time diners there but we will be back.
We did our major Mother’s Day meal on Mother’s Day Eve. As always, the food and service were outstanding. When our server realized that my vegetarian spouse would not be eating the bonus ceviche he’d brought (which was exceptional), he brought her an alternative without our asking or complaining. We only wish we lived closer to Evanston so we could get to Oceanique more often.
I’m sorry to say that we were underwhelmed by the food & decor. The food was nice but nothing to write home about. The decor is tired & needs updating. White subway tile in a fine dining restaurant really doesn’t cut it. Old tired velvet curtains closing in the dining room didn’t help either. Nothing wrong with windows exposed & bringing life into the place. And the prices are way too high for the quality. For that sort of price, the food should be fantastic, not average. And for a place that specializes in seafood, offering the usual salmon & whitefish and not much else is inexcusable. My sea bass was very good, but I thought they could’ve offered more choices... halibut, skatewing, mahi mahi.. something a bit more diverse. We were there years ago and thought it was great. This time round it was just OK.
Good food and excellent service. We had the 7 course tasting menu which was well prepared and interesting, but not a great value for what we received.
Would be nice to have one or two plain entrees for picky eaters
Fabulous food artistically served by talented and professional servers. A wonderful wine list as well.
Outstanding as always! Comfy inside; intimate, the menu always has wonderful choices-Chef Mark is amazing every time! Cannot wait to return. Thanks for a lovely evening.
Excellent as always. 33 years in the same spot!
The foie gras was awesome, as was everything else!
This was our first post-pandemic restaurant experience. We were extremely pleased. Both the food and the service were outstanding.
Excellent service and cuisine! Tables are a bit small! But highly recommend!!

The salmon, beet salad, and panacotta were delicious. The raspberry sorbet and the sea bass cerviche were also delicious. There is metered street parking .Those persons going for restaurant week must ask for the special menu.
Elegant dining with unique ingredient combinations presented beautifully. There are surprise treats between courses to further delight the pallet
Great fish, salad and desserts! Everything was perfectly prepared. Wines were well chosen and not too expensive by the glass. We went during restaurant week, so we had a three-course meal. One caveat: by careful parking on Main street. Some meters are short-term. It was dark & rainy, so we didn't check. It will add $25 to your bill.
This is a great place to take someone you love for a night out.
The food was phenomenal. Service was excellent. Can't wait to return! Only thing we were not fond of is the dining room paper napkins in the restroom. They disintegrated in the wet and left hands full of paper pieces.
Consistently excellent (sea)food with French focused execution, featuring fish species you won’t typically see just anywhere. A nice spot for a special occasion as each course is a mini celebration of something. So happy it continues to thrive there! Check for nightly specials to help make it a more than just once a year place!
This is such a gem of a restaurant. Quiet, lovely, cozy...the epitome of relaxed elegance. The food is divine, each dish prepared lovingly, with balance and with perfect seasoning. We have come here on weekends which is always wonderful, but recently came on a Tuesday and it was equally as wonderful. The darling chef came to our table to deliver our dessert and also visited other guest tables - it's such a personal touch and we absolutely loved seeing him. This has become a favorite restaurant of ours, both for sentiment and also because of the incredible food. And, we are so proud to support this local business as it triumphs through Covid. Go and enjoy yourselves, it's a delightful experience!
Another fantastic experience all around. Each course was amazing and truly a culinary celebration. Paired with the perfect wine made for a incredibly unique experience. Can't wait to go back.
It was great
A lovely neighborhood spot with excellent food and a kind and attentive staff. Perfect for date night or any low key special occasion.
Love this place (went here for our anniversary 😉), everything is always delicious. It’s on the pricier side, but the presentation and service are both excellent, and the wine recommendations are always good.
A friends sobriety anniversary
Long time favorite! Wonderful every time. Food is spectacular and the service is amazing. Makes for a lovely evening.
I can't say enough about how wonderful our experience was at Oceanique. My husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. From the time we walked to our table we were treated so well. We enjoyed the delicious 5 course tasting menu. Everything was superb tasting and right on point. We even got a visit from the chef after dinner. What a nice touch. The waitstaff were very friendly and attentive. They made me feel like a queen. I can't wait to go back and enjoy another fabulous dinner. Well done!!!
Outstanding flavors and incredible wine list.. a hidden gem!
Best seafood in Chicagoland. Excellent service, diverse menu. THE BEST!
Indoor tables were properly spaced in the COVID era. The warm goat cheese and beet salad was large enough for the two of to split and it was fabulous! The whitefish and the Alaskan halibut were equally spectacular. And we loved the little dishes that were brought out between courses. Service was very attentive and helpful too.
Our waiter Will was great! Staff was extremely attentive. We did the 5 course meal deal from travel zoo, however I did feel that the wine list was very overpriced. Prices for wine were a minimum of 200% over retail. We ended up doing cocktails instead which were great however very small portions. Food was great as always!
Everything was fantastic.
The service excellent. The only reason I gave the ambiance a 3 star was we were seated outside upon our request and it was very basic. Some planters between tables or even candles on table would have been nice. The inside was very romantic when i did a walk through to the rest room.
Best dinner experience I've had in a while! Food was amazing, ambiance was amazing, and the chef even came out and had a conversation with us! It was wonderful and our families loved it! Will definitely be going back!
Great fine dining experience at very reasonable prices
Innovative seafood preparations in a chic atmosphere. Attentive service. Carefully considered wine list.
Shocked we have not been here before and sorry we have been missing out. Celebrated a big anniversary on a Tuesday night at the last seating but we’re happily offered the Chef’s Degustation 7 course meal with premier wine accompaniment and enjoyed 5 star dining and wine on a quiet sidewalk in Evanston. Felt very comfortable with staff who were all masked but gave us very special attention. Chef came out and chatted with us too. Not enough space to describe every dish but they were all phenomenal. Have not had such a great meal since Trotter’s, seriously. Will be back to try more of the great menu.
My wife and I had a marvelous dinner on Saturday night. As always the service is top notch, the food is like a party in your mouth. Hats off to chef Grosz for the delicious meal!! We always enjoy spending the evening at Oceanique!!
Excellent! Do not miss it, and if you can, sit outside, the street is ultra quaint. We’ll be back every time we visit Evanston. Incredible food and even better service. Art Rios
Perfect. From there creative dished, through the plating, to the taste.
Excellent service (during the pandemic!) made the experience wonderful.
Fabulous fine dining experience. As good as any restaurant in downtown.
Had a fantastic experience. The food was sublime, the service sublime, a bright spot in 2020.
