Met my 2 good friends for Sunday brunch. Now, I get it, I have worked in the restaurant industry for 20+ years, we are still in Covid, good help is hard to find, yadayada, so for this reason my bar was already set low. Catamaran didn't even meet that. Got sat ok, then left to sit and sit for almost 20 minutes before water is offered. Throughout our brunch we had to flag staff down for water, champagne, clearing plates - it was pathetic. Manny was attentive and professional, even upbeat. All other staff - no eye contact, not graciousness - they looked miserable to be there. So, working in the industry I knew this was a management issue - sure enough over 4 hours into our brunch I saw the manager do the obligatory "walk through" - eyes glancing over tables, then scurrying off to the back of the restaurant. Food was cold. Service completely absent. Even validating our parking - 3 of the 4 of our party were validated, the rest had to fight with the parking attendant to be able to escape the parking lot or face a $32+ parking fee. Beyond ridiculous. I know we take chances going to the tourist spots for a nice time out, but Catamaran, this was beyond amateur hour. Take a look at your Oceana management team - some serious basic training is needed. I enjoyed my friend's company, being close to the water - but the food and service were subpar. Not the experience you'd expect at the Catamaran for sure.
Nice atmosphere for seated Sunday brunch! Food and service were very good.
A Beautiful location and excellent service. The restaurant was not crowded for Mother's Day, but reservations were required.
Came here for Mother’s Day brunch. The food and service were great. Overall, it was a pleasant experience 😊
I think it’s one of San Diego best places for breakfast/brunch!!
We really enjoyed the tropical ambience. However, the food was mediocre at best and not a lot of selection. I would recommend it for its ambience.
Not sure how this has been given four starts. Three stars may be generous.
Menu was not the best but the view was great.
Service was great but the food was only fair. Disappointing
Service was very slow, food quality and taste was the level of a Denny’s. Edible but nothing to be excited about.
I went there because I wanted to eat while watching the fireworks of Sea World.I'm glad that I was guided to a seat with a good view as I wanted.
I think the food here is cheap and better than anywhere else.
It is my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood.
9th anniversary. It was meh.
Wonderful food and service!
We came here to celebrate my mother's 100th birthday. As a lifelong San Diegian, the Catamaran holds many wonderful memories for her. The food was amazing! The ambience was lovely and we were well taken care of. It exceeded our expectations. Thank you for a lovely evening.
We had an enjoyable evening at Oceana. Cocktails were good including a negroni and an old fashioned. The wine selection is good with many reasonably priced options (for restaurant prices--not BevMo!) We had short ribs and Sea Bass. Both were very good. The view is great since we were looking at Mission Bay. The question I always ask myself is: Would I go back again considering food, service, and price, and the answer is Yes. Enjoy!
Celebrated my birthday with the seabass and creme brulee outside with an amazing view! Everything was perfect 🤩
Wonderful experience! Birthday brunch fir my mother and we couldn’t not have been happier with the meal, the view or the service. Thank you for making the meal special for us!
We had an amazing time celebrating my boyfriends birthday! Thank you so much to the manager, Robert, for making the experience so wonderful. Robert went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable experience. The food, drinks, ambiance and service were top notch! We will never forget this spectacular evening.
Initially the service was awful, it took over 30 minutes to even be served a drink. The waiter had no knowledge of the menu or anything about the food. The worst part was the bread basket, the bread was dry and cold even though they charge you $9 for a basket of bread. The butter they served with the bread had mold on it (which I didn't realize until after eating some of it). After letting them know about the mold they tried to make up for it with a bunch of free appetizers and by switching our waiter. I appreciate the gesture however instead of sending me more food than I can eat I would have appreciated more just discounting the food we had already ordered and clearly wanted to eat. The entrees were good but I still would not eat there again, overall it was a poor dining experience especially considering the cost of the meal.
A great please for brunch! Situated within feet of the beach, it has a great view for tourist and locals!
Very poor service
We sat outside in a bay view booth with live music playing. The service was friendly and professional, every course was delicious and the wine list excellent and fairly priced.
Food bland and quite disappointing. May have been because of rest Week, but ordered from regular menu.
My favorite place to have breakfast. Highly recommend
Seafood wasn’t fresh... you can smell a weird smell.. felt like a frozen seafood, doesn’t worth to a $40 meal..
Steak was too salty.. meat itself was okay but doesn’t taste amazing too..
Atmosphere was okay..
Ok for everything - felt food was overpriced for what we were given especially the seating...
Wonderful views of Sail Bay. Great people watching venue. Food is excellent, fresh and tasty. Service is superb. I look forward to returning soon.
Not many menu options but the food was good. The service was excellent.
Nice location. Uninspired food. Service pleasant but slow
The food is not what was expected . Chef needs to review and update the menu. The sushi is excellent, but maybe offer a grilled fish or chicken sandwich.
Marta the hostess was very welcoming and inviting. Tom was our server that evening and he gave exceptional service. The hamachi crudo was great and the chicken Peperonata was outstanding. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Outdoor seating was perfect and very comfortable. Great service and good.
I really wanted to enjoy this dinner with my family. We were celebrating my wife birthday. We had a confirmed reservation, and when we showed up they claimed they didn’t have a rsvp under my name. Requested to be seated outside per original rsvp, the manager didn’t even acknowledge our confirmed rsvp; however, she was willing to seat another group outside who just had walked in. We were seated 45 mins after our rsvp time, we placed the order for our kids to come first as they were hungry, but, the food came 30 mins after we placed our order. Yes, they did comp. our dessert due to the bday celebration, but overall ruined the vibe for the rest of the evening.
Menu was small due to covid but the quality was good. Staff were attentive and overall, we had a good time.
We really enjoyed the ambience, the service, the food. The Passionfruit Margarita was the best!
After waiting 45 min to get an outdoor heat lamp turned on and freezing we left. Sparse, generic, overpriced menus. The manager did offer us champagne and an apology, but the damage was done and we moved on and had a good anniversary experience as herb and wood
Fantastic time and met some new friends. The restaurant worked hard to seat us somewhere warm as it was cold outside. Food was scallops and short rib main courses were great. Met some new friends who sat with us and shared a couple bottles of wine.
Venus was our server and did a fantastic job.
We sat in a romantic alcove behind a fire and ice table enjoying easy listening live music in the background. Waitstaff at tentative and helpful. Undecided on 1/2 wine night so she brought a flight to decide which to order. Dinner was brought out on hot plates and the food was delicious.
Seems like their menu has changed, likely due to COIVD, I'm hoping their previous menu returns one day. There used to be a tower of seafood - shrimp, crab, oysters, it was delicious and so yummy, but it's no longer on their menu. Albeit, I could have asked if it was still offered but opted not to since it wasn't there. Also, the mojito was made with a dark rum rather than a white rum which is a deviation from a classic mojito that I wish i had known about prior to being served it. Overall it was a great dinner, nothing that was outstanding though.
This restaurant was a nice lunch experience. The views are more obstructed than the photos make it seem and it is on a main path where you see a lot of people in and out of the hotel, but overall we had a good time. Our server was super sweet and the food was yummy! Overall, it was more casual than expected but drinks and food were good.
Good food, good prices, great location. Nice ambience on the beach
