The Ocean Room is known as a go to place for sushi and seafood lovers. The restaurant has a nicely decorated interior. On the inside, the place has a bright and contemporary feel to it. Diners are able to look at the exhibition style kitchen, the handmade sushi presentation and the oyster display. The dishes on the menu at The Ocean Room are created to capture the true essence of the locally available fresh sea food.
Offering parking facilities and catering for special occasions, the menu at The Ocean Room has a unique mix of flavors. The menu selection includes Ahi Poke, Surf and Turf and multiple sushi varieties.
I went to Ocean on a Saturday evening when visiting San Diego because my son wanted sushi and my daughter seafood pasta. The sushi was quite good and reasonably priced. There was a very long wait, although the restaurant had warned us that it was due to the large party, which looked like to be form the Convention Center. The seafood pasta was okay.
Outstanding food and value ...go for happy hour prices are fantastic too ! C&H
Well my reservations was made for 10pm on Friday, June 1, 2016 but when we arrived they told us they were closing at 10pm and it clearly states on the window or door that they close at 12 midnight. So my first experience was not great at all. Would not consider recommendations to anyone for this place if they can't honor a simple family reservation without good reason other than we're closing at an hour not posted!!
I enjoyed the steamed mussels and drunken salmon roll but their spicy tuna roll was too slimy and too dark in color for my taste
My Boyfriend and I went the day before valentines Day and almost no one was there. The food was Delicious and so were the martinis. It was a very easy going night, not too much noise. However parking was a nightmare, But it is the gas lamp district so we were expecting it.
I don't like the photographer disturbing me by taking pictures. The short rib is kind of no taste. The glass of water I got was in a chipped glass.
The sushi here is great, especially the Spicy Tuna Roll. The sushi chef and the waitstaff are personable and efficient. You can't find a better happy hour. The outdoor seating is preferred to the indoor seating. The inside is clean but tired and sadly drab.
The sushi at Ocean Room is superb - superb quality seafood with expert sushi preparation. The calamari was good; it needed seasoning to add a punch to the perfect crunchy texture.
I have to compliment the hostess, the wait-person, even the busboy! Every individual added to the enjoyment of some amazingly good seafood. Next visit, I'm going for Happy Hour - the specials look great!
Cookie cutter restaurant... Everything was good... not great... nothing special... Prices were right though - and service was great.
My husband and I enjoyed a great night at ocean room. Great sushi rolls, and pot stickers! We had a cup of miso soup each and the flavor was great, it was just a tad on the cold side. I would recommend this place for a great night out.
Sat on the patio to watch the Comic-Con parade. The sushi was pretty good, my cucumber mojito was pretty good too. Patio is small and a little crowded. Not sure what to make of the staff, they weren't consistent with the level of service. (ie, I told the waiter to bring me a second drink before happy hour ended. He was pre-occupied chatting with another guest. Even after I flagged him down, he took his time getting to me.) The busboy seemed more attentive...
I'd probably go again.
Took a group of cutomers there after looking over the web site and seeing decent recommendations. Fact is, it was the only place willing to seat our large party, so I did not have much of a choice. I should have just split the table at a much nicer place.
The Bar / Chef Cooking area are all upfront in plain sight. Thinking it was a Sushi bar, I didnt realize ALL of the cooking woudl be done by the one person with a chef hat on. 1 chef, 1 bartender, 1 waiter. Our party pretty much took up every seat in the place besides the bothes, which meant that we should have got great service and fantastic food.
Unfortunately, both food quality and service were below what I expected. We didnt stick around for desert as it took us just over 2 hours to get our entres.
Would not recomend this to anyone looking for a good sushi / seafood restaurant in the Gaslamp district. There are MANY other options that are fantastic in the area.
Not too bad, not sure if I'll go back, but was overall a good experience.
Had a group dinner and service was great and food was a variety to choose from.
