The food was good but not good enough to rave about. The bread was a little tough, the appetizer of calamari was excellent and the entrée was good but not stellar. The proportions were generous and the wine list was extensive. Overall a good experience
Great food, knowledgeable server, and excellent service. Appreciated small things done to recognize our special occasion.
My wife and I like to go to nice places and sometimes we will go to really nice places; this was one of those occasions. We frequent High Street fairly often. The last time we visited (about a week ago) on the way out we took note of the Ocean Prime and decided we would try it next time we were out. When we arrived the place looked very nice, walking into the front hostess area from outside. When we were greeted I told them we visited High Street often and wanted to give Ocean Prime a try. He said great and wished us to have an enjoyable evening. Once seated we were served our drinks. So for all is very well. Since we were at Ocean Prime and they had a nice looking steak menu I decided to go with a steak. I usually go with bone in Rib-eye but they did not have that, it was straight Rib-eye or a 12oz Bone in Fillet. I didn't time it but I believe it took at least 30 and up to 45 minutes for the food to arrive. Once it arrived, at first glanced at the steaks I thought to myself (oh darn) this is not a professionally cooked steak. Anyone who is a steak connoisseur knows what I mean when I say a great steak like you'd get at places like the Ocean Club at Kierland Commons have a sear on them that is unmistakable. Its almost burnt but not and when you see that, you know what's underneath that sear is nothing but a joyous mouthful of flavor. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the very best I'd have to score these steaks a 4 to 5. They tasted like they'd been sitting around for a while before they were finally served to us. For a $52 steak, I was very disappointed to say the least. All in all, the restaurant was really nice, the people and management were very nice, I got to say though, I didn't care much for the lady server we had. She seemed to almost be bothered to have to wait on us, while forcing this kind of fake smile. Not sure what it was but she was not the friendliest or most helpful server I've ever encountered.
Have been to Ocean Prime numerous times. Saturday night was a great disappointment. The bar tenders were totally useless. We felt we were invisible. One gal took our drink order. We had to flag her down to order an appetizer and also had to ask for popcorn. We never got the popcorn. We went to a table for dinner hoping things would get better. The tuna tartare which I always order, was mushy and wontons were not crushed. The dish was very vinegary not the normal ponzu. Did they run out? I was so looking forward to the dish. The giant shrimp were delicious.
Will I come back???
We celebrate "half-anniversaries" as well as anniversaries because we were married in mid-life and want to make up for those lost years in the first half of our life. Ocean Prime made our celebration great with wonderful food, great service, and good ambiance. The food and beverages were great from before-dinner drinks, to appetizers, through entrees and dessert. Everything, even including bread, were excellent. Ocean Prime certainly ranks in the top 2 - 3 restaurants in the entire Phoenix area.
My husbands brother and his wife were staying with us over Valentines Day so we all celebrated a dinner out together at Ocean Prime. We enjoyed their specialty cocktails before dinner, a bubbly martini and punch, both were very good, so good we all had a second. The men had fillet mignon with shrimp scampi and the other with Oscar, you are able to pick the accompaniment you would like on your steak. The ladies had the seafood special grouper with a wonderful piece of Alaskan king crab legs on top, both were excellent ! We asked our server to send the sommelier over to our table to help us choose a wine that would compliment all our entrees. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable and we chose a nice blend. Our server was also very pleasant and well informed on the menu and offered good advice on the dishes. he took our picture for us to remember such a lovely evening. After appetizers of house salads, excellent choice with a light dressing and goat cheese on top, sushi and Ahi tuna for the men , side dishes of mushrooms and Brussel sprouts ( roasted with balsamic vinegar) and asparagus with our mains, we decided to skip desert although it looked pretty good at other tables. We had actually ordered too much and unfortunately could not eat it all.
The dining room had a very nice ambience with moderate background noise level that still allows you to have a conversation at your table without feeling like you are shouting or being overheard by other tables. Overall it was a very nice dinner out that we were all enjoyed and did not disappoint in any way. The dining room is lovely with a fireplace, pretty lit up bar and large windows that open up to the outside, the weather was a little cool so the windows were not open but the fireplace made it very cozy inside. We dressed up for the occasion and enjoyed the more formal atmosphere of the dining room. We have also enjoyed a casual dining experience on the lounge side of the restaurant with live entertainment.
always a great treat, friendly accommodating staff
The food was to die for and the waiter was outstanding. I could not have asked for a better place to take my mother too on her 60th birthday. They made it so special for her and she was thrilled and had no problems telling them that she was 60. Thank you for making it so special for my mother. Will definitely be back and have already highly recommended going here.
We had a great anniversary dinner. The food and service was remarkable. We thoroughly enjoyed the night.
Food was superb. Service was highly professional yet not stuffy. While definitely pricey, the experience lives up to it. Will be happy to have occasion to return
