I went for the breakfast buffet. There was a decent selection but it was a tad pricey ($24.00 per person). As a family resort, it'd be expensive to cater to a family of four but as a single visitor, it was fine.
Breakfast was great. Dinner was terrible. The "new menu" is not good. Avocado and Brie quesadilla was weird along with other options. Had warm red wine in a plastic cup that I couldn't even drink. Find another place for dinner.
The red snapper was excellent/savory; the ambiance was superb!!
Our waiter was great.
Delicious buffet and OUTSTANDING service. From the valets to the servers. Thank you!
Easter brunch disappointing . No omlet station as advertised.. meat was dry .. serving stations were messy
We had a group of 24 come in for dinner. Everyone had a great time and the food and drinks were wonderful. Great service!!!
The only recommendation I would make is that is was extremely cold sitting inside sd o we moved outside.
We were staying at Hawk's Cay for a week with our whole family. We liked the idea of restaurants on the premises but we're quickly disappointed by the high prices and quality of the food.
We had the buffet dinner here. There were 9 of us. High ceiling makes it very noisy. There is outside dining but if you do the buffet you have to carry your plates in and out the front door. Also not the best for large groups. Price $28 per person for the buffet, 3 and under free when a buffet dinner is ordered. They also have an A la carte menu and a children's menu.
Service was slow. It took a long time for my husband to get his burger that was ordered from the A la carte menu. I gave the food a "good" rating because of the salad bar. Nice cheese platter. Fresh lettuces and choices for toppings and accompany your salad. My kids also liked the soup they had. I think it was Pasta Figioli. Nice bread basket.
They also had pizza for the buffet. It was under heated lamps. Just o.k.
Didn't realize the restaurant was a buffet so we decided to order off the ala cart menu. We had to wait for over an hour to receive our food. The food was average at best, not what we expect come to expect while dining in the Florida Keys. They did try to accommodate our son with a food allergy, but the menu was quite limited for him. Unfortunately, I would not be able to recommend this restaurant and certainly will not put it on my list to come back.
We loved this spot. We had a party of 10. Very roomy. Conch chowder was great!
The food was good, I little expensive though. We did a reservation for 9:00pm and the waitress apparently she didn't like it. She rolled her eyes sometimes. But she didn't a ruined our evening. The place is amazing.
We ask for an outside table, where we had the chance to listen to live music. Thumbs up 100 times.
First diner experience @ OCEAN
The food taste was the best part of the evening. The staff were VERY nice but the restaurant seemed to be under staffed. It could have been a much better experience with a few more employees.
Service was not very good. Slow and server was not friendly at all. We were having a get together with friends and had fun anyway. We weren't letting the server get us down.
Great buffet selection and very good attention to food allergies by staff. Food was tasty and plentiful. A bit loud due to high ceiling and echo, but not terrible.
Service is very slow. It makes no difference how much the food was as it was way over priced. No selection. Do not recommend this restaurant but the resort is just fine.
Always flavorful fresh options to please everyone. Staff is very friendly.
Parents with children-the bathroom is located outside of the restaurant which can be inconvenient.
We have been to Ocean on all of our visits to Hawks Cay. Each time we are as pleased as the time before. It is a casual dining place on normal days for breakfast and dinner. On New Year's Eve, it is turned into a lovely and festive event.
The food and service is very good for a resort setting. For many of our meals, including New Year's Eve, we were lucky to have Ariel for our waitress. She is energetic and engaging as well as extremely efficient and accommodating. A true asset to Ocean.
The dining options on property are limited, but Oceans varying menu makes return trips worthwhile.
A fun place to eat
We have stayed at Hawks Cay for 4 out of the last 5 years and this is the first time we decided to stay at the resort for a dinner and try the Ocean restaurant. We ordered the dinner buffet because it seemed like the best value and more selection for our two teenage boys. The dinner rolls served at the start of our meal were very tasty, but it went downhill from there. The buffet food selection was minimal and poor. The food items were not restocked in a timely fashion. There was food on the floor causing it to be slippery near the food service areas. The food did not taste well and in fact two out of the four of us had stomach issues for the 12-18 hours following the meal. The dessert selection consisted of cake, cake and oh….more cake. For the $35 adult price and I believe the boys were $17 this was the biggest waste of money and time ever. The ONLY saving grace was our delightfully sweet and competent waitress I believe her name was Shelby (from Michigan?). I know the resort is building a new restaurant and for the sake of all staying there I would hope it is a huge improvement over Ocean which I wouldn't recommend to anyone.
Lovely restaurant at a fantastic resort. Food was great with a good choice (Christmas day buffet) but outdoor dining was quite noisy due to kids club who seemed to be doing a salvage hunt and then a movie under the stars. Didn't spoil the atmosphere for us but we did hear a few people complaining about it
We only ate here because we were staying at the resort. The food was fair. My scallops were cold and the rice was dry. The waiter was friendly and tried to help us in every way, but the food was just not great. The noise level was high as well and we had to yell to hear each other across the table. It felt like we were in a college caferteria in some ways. Maybe it was the uncomfortable chairs or the noise, but I just can't recommend this place.
The Ocean restraunt was a good option for us on the day of arrival. We chose to order off of the menu and not the buffet route and we are glad we did. The portions were very generous and the quality was good. The server was very attentive to us and kept the drink glasses full and cleared plates away at the right time. The atmosphere is very open and plenty of space between the tables. The prices are a liitle high given the quality and presentation of the food but, this is a resort.
I had breakfast buffet twice and my wife, a make your own omelet. Both were very yummy. The potatoes....a big hit. We also ate dinner there or first night in. The snapper dinner was fantastic. The ahi tuna app was delicious. Service was great and timely. Look forward to eating there on our next visit.
We only had breakfast at Ocean while at Hawk's Cay. It was your typical buffet breakfast, nothing fancy, but very complete. Perfect breakfast while on vacation.
Fair, expensive food and poor service. Much better food off the resort.
Overpriced buffet only menu. Noisy barn like open space. Food quality disappointing compared to dinner at Alma the night before and all other dining experiences at Hawks Cay
Not. Good dinner spot for adults. They were out of most wines by the glass, and not interested in opening a butler, instead suggesting we purchase a bottle. Some dishes not served as described on the menu.
If you do not want to leave the resort the Ocean is a good option. We had a group of 10 people and they were able to accommodate is easily. We had a very efficient server and the food was very good. Some of the dishes were better than good. We were pleasantly surprised for a resort restaurant.
Poor selection for breakfast, typical continental and ordinary. Poor selection and service.
Ocean was a taste of the gourmet in a very casual setting. Not a place to be wine and dined, but for sure delicious.
Food Ok. Services terrible...Good area. Nice Resort.
The staff and food was great. I was disappointed because I reserved this dinner 2 weeks in advised and requested a birthday cake to be delivered to the table for my husband and when we got there they said they needed 24 hour noticed and only brought a slice of cake. I requested the birthday cake when I made the reservation and talked to the dining room 2 days before my family and I came. Other than that it was a great time.
Showed up with a party of 10 for dinner. Opted to get the buffet for everyone. The food was great and flavorful. The service was surprisingly slow considering the restaurant was not full. The waiter didn't write anything down, which I see a lot in restaurants but this waiter got a lot of our orders wrong especially our drinks. We dealt with the issues but he took a long time to get things for us including the check.
Food was overdone. My kids even skipped the 14 dollar burger (left uneaten) and ate the provided french rolls instead. I was craving grouper and it was overfried and tough. The best thing on the menu is guacamame- made with edamame - and plantain chips. The chocolate cake took adults pushing HARD to get a fork through. As for buffet- it is ok- but expensive for a good salad you make yourself
After a few discouraging meals at Hawks Cay over the years this new restaurant was a nice surprise. The service was excellent, and the food delicious.
What a great spot at Hawks Cay for lunch or dinner. We chose outdoor always. Inside looks too much like a rec cafeteria room. While outside it is candle lit and view of moon, stars and fire pit. Wonderful service and food. We all opted for menu selection versus the brunch.
Not many choices at this resort, so the buffet is a good value (especially if you have kids under 4-they eat for free!) Great fruits, salads and cheeses.
Food was just ok but service was beyond horrible. Wasn't just our table either. Took 27 mins for waiter to come to table, 33 to get bread and 55mins for dinner to be served. U acceptable for a family resort.
Good food, very attentive service. A little pricey and an extremely limited beer menu... Nothing on tap.
Pricey but tastey! Crab cakes were excellent. Buffet was well stocked and quality. Only issue we ran into was the kids Mac-n-cheese was too fancy for our 3-year old's taste. We sat outside and had a nice dining experience.
