Food is great!! Service and setting marginal at best. Loud and crowded, which I understand because the food really is excellent and a good value. The staff is barely friendly and very disinterested in paying attention to you. I’d recommend take out, and won’t go back for dining in, which will likely not happen since we don’t live in the City.

Obao is one of my favorite if not my favorite Thai food spots in NYC.
Not only is it authentic, but the staff is fantastic, friendly, and there's a great vibe in the room. I take a lot of my business meetings here.

Went to Obao on a Tuesday and it was very busy. Thankfully we had a reservation but still waited 15 minutes for a table. The meals we had were all very good and the service was always there to fill your water or get you anything else. Drinks were quite fun also. Would definitely go back!

Had a pre-theatre dinner at Obao. They serve a fusion of Thai and Vietnamese cuisines, and there was something on the menu to appeal to everyone in the group. We particularly liked the Roasted Duck Noodles and the Basil Fried Rice (full of shrimp). The wine choices were fine, and there was a very tasty "house red" at a very good price ($8/glass). Given that we're in NYC and within a quick walk of many Broadway theaters, I'd have to classify this place as a true bargain. We told the servers that we had a show to attend, and they were very accommodating to our schedule. They do offer a prix fixe pre-theatre menu (which we did not have), but ordering off the regular menu was quick and efficient. The decor of the downstairs and upstairs dining rooms is quite interesting (modern Asian), and there is a very energetic bar scene on the ground floor.

a little more expensive than your typical Asian fusion restaurant but it is close to time square. This makes it a good spot for a quick bite before a show.

This place was very high energy for an early dinner on Sunday night at 6:30. Loud club music made everyone talk very loud which was odd for an otherwise pleasant Thai restaurant. The food was good but not outstanding. The service was very pleasant and accommodating. Not worth a trip across town but if you're in the neighborhood it's not a bad choice.

We were looking for a new place to eat in Hell's Kitchen (an area we frequently eat in). From the Open Table list I noticed Obao and we tried it. The food is EXCELLENT! A great blend of Thai and Vietnamese choices. The steamed veggie dumplings were fabulous. We each had a different Pad (noodle) choice. The beef in mine (on the menu it says Australian grass-fed beef) was soft and succulent--not something you find in every Asian restaurant. The service was wonderful. The whole wait staff was friendly, helpful in explaining the dishes, and attentive to needs. We had "happy hour" choices of wine and beer which were good and a value. We ended our meal with Vietnamese iced coffee which I love. I certainly am looking forward to revisiting this restaurant. For pre theater-dinner, definitely make reservations. It's a popular restaurant as it deserves to be.

Service was attentive and quick. Food was yummy but almost inedibly salty. Not sure if it was just our specific dishes. We drank so much water. Would be willing to give it another try for being so close to our favorite theatres. Servings a little small for the price compared to other Thai places.

Found out about Obao from TripAdvisor, definitely a great place for Asian cuisine and they easily accomondated our party of seven. Food was excellent, the only down side was the noise level, but the food made up for this shortcoming. Worth a visit.

I've ate at the Midtown East location many times and was excited to try their Hell's Kitchen location. The food is definitely better at the Midtown East location. Our server was not attentive and felt like she was rushing us out of there by giving us the check without asking if we wanted anything else.

This is the second time my friend and I dined at Obao for lunch and both times we had delicious meals! First let me start this review by saying we were originally seated in the back, where we were directly under one of the restaurant speakers and the music was super loud. I want to commend Pop (the hostess) who was kind and receptive when I asked her if she could please lower the music which she did.

Now that we have that slight glitch out of the way...

I started with an Obao salad (delicious dressing), my friend had the eggplant appetizer and I ordered the panang curry and my friend ordered one of the chicken entrees. You can't beat the lunch special price which starts at $9 for an appetizer and entree ($3 more if you include beef or shrimp in your entree).

We'll definitely be back. Service is very accommodating and the food is delicious. I see they have a few locations in the city too.
