Eh, it’s not great. Loud, smells kinda like B/O, food was meh, drinks were not very good.
Kinda bummed because I picked it because of the good reviews, but they must be fake ones from fiver. Or just tourists thinking it’s good because it’s near time square.
It was nice but nothing overly exciting. Food was luke warm on arrival and waiter forgot our appetizer order and never checked in once initial order was placed.
Arrived 2 minutes before reservation, hostess was nowhere in sight. Waited at the hostess stand for 15 minutes before speaking with hostess.
We were in NYC for a meeting and was recommended Obao because of the food and atmosphere. We were not dissappointed. Great food, great drinks and the service was quick and friendly, even though the place was packed.
I know that you are a very busy restaurant with high quality of food, but please don't cast your customers out when they are still having dinner.
Very loud music ,
Amazing food considering the price, frindly waiter and good service!
Good food. Space crammed.
Good value for what you get.
Food was well priced, portions were good, and delicious but a bit on the salty end (kimchi fries were amazing)
Drinks were a bit on the sweet side but good
Seating is a bit crowded as the tables were really close to one another and people were asked to leave if they were not ordering anymore food to allow new customers in (On a Monday night at 6:30pm)
Overall a quick and delicious experience if that’s what you are looking for. Not a place to eat and hangout for hours.
Food was great, the specialty drinks were awesome! We tried 6 different ones between 3 of us and shared about 7 plates-zero complaints and rave reviews all around
Wonderful! Staff friendly and efficient. Meals were delicious and filling. Very authentic.
Seated quickly, although there was a line out the door- but had a reservation. Food came quickly, properly seasoned and cooked. Great flavor. Will come again.
Really great Thai food. Loved the vibes. Cucumber drink was amazing! Loved it here! Will be coming back!
Obao is a great place to go before or after the theater. Its is near the Broadway and has a wide-ranging Pan Asian menu to address any appetite. We can recommend two unique appetizers--kimchi fries and spareribs on sugar cane spear. The pho bo, with its anise and ginger chicken broth, was also outstanding. Service is prompt and friendly. Though small, it is welcoming to families and larger groups. This was our first visit and will be our go-to restaurant whenever we are seeing a Broadway show.
This is my second visit to Obao for dinner. My first visit about a year ago, the food was hot and flavorful but the service was hurried and rude. This visit was the opposite, the food was cold, ordinary and unappetizing. The service was much more pleasant and accommodating. I am not sure what to expect any more so I won't be returning. There are just too many good choices elsewhere.
Great food, drinks, they need to clean there tables, don't put down your silverware or elbows
my first time and i hope not the last, perfect combination of yummy food and amazing decoration, i would rate as 9 to 10, prices are very good.
EDM music?? In a restaurant?? Terrible
Lukewarm soup. Nothing special.
The thing I only liked about OBAO is the price.
The food was good. It was dark so couldn’t see the menu too well. Very loud. I was a bit upset that despite having a reservation we waited about 15 minutes. The people who work there are very nice liked the food so might go back when less crowded.
Solid asian fusion food in a energetic space with really good food and drink.
We are very glad to find this place. The drinks are creative and provide a fun way to unwind a bit...and dinner is tasty. The kimchi fries promised to be a bit more “interesting” than they were is perhaps my only complaint.
I think the apps & deserts are a little pricey but the entrees are well priced for what you get.
Got the order wrong. Dishes quite oily. Relatively expensive.
Good experience overall
Went out with my mom and my cousin for our first night of our NYC trip. Very beautiful and creative interior. Food came out in a timely manner despite the packed restaurant. However, they had music blasting and made it nearly impossible to have casual conversation. If they had quieter music, it would allow people to actually enjoy the experience with the people they are with.
Went there with my son 2 nights in a row, since we liked the food. We are living in Beijing and gibts Thailand on a regular basis, so we can judge the authenty of the food. We asked for extra spicy and it was delivered. Food selection is sufficient and whatever we tried was good. Awesome Thai ice tea and a very good Lagunistas IPA on tap. Friendly service and a relaxing place despite being crowded and narrow seating. Noise level can be high and sitting at the wooden walls you can feel a lot of vibrations. Overall highly recommended since the prices are reasonable.
Our meal was okay. I ordered a spicy soup which I thought would have rice noodles, and they looked like they just threw in some spaghetti noodles. Not very authentic. Others with me enjoyed their food more.
Everything was great, except that in the end the waitress was rude. Did not ask us for deserts coz she wanted to close the section. There was hair in one of the dishes, which they replaced but still a big no for us.
Veg pad Thai was not good other theee dishes and appetizers were good. Drinks were good too. Nice decor.
this place is a fusion of phony dishes, tiny and sugary drinks, eat and get out fast atmosphere and clueless waiters. if you like Vietnamese cuisine for dummies or Thai dishes for morons -- this is the place to go!
Tasteless and poorly prepared food. Not restaurant quality. Everything landed on the table cold, including our soups. At least one one curt server (not appreciated at all..!!). They took off one item from our bill as compensation for our bad experience, but added 18% tip without asking (ostensibly as per policy written in ant-sized print on the back of the menu). Overall dismal experience. Never goin back.
Good food in a pleasant atmosphere. For pre-theatre very efficient. It is Asian and all of the various dishes were well prepared. All of us enjoyed the experience. The restaurant is not large, but the service was more than gracious and timely.
Good Thai food, efficiently prepared and good service.
Staff was nice and the food was good.
If you're European like us, you'll notice they a lot on the plate.
Music was techno house. Too loud, unlike the thai ambiance we experience in thailand. I might be wrong, only my 2 cents.
We had reservations for an early dinner. We were seated promptly and was pleasantly surprised that it was happy hour! Everything we ordered was delicious but our favorites were: laksa (we shared this as an app), Calamari and their clay pot fish. They serve dessert, which comes from Spot, so it was no doubt delicious as well. Service was great. We definitely would come back!
Fantastic as always. The sugar cane skewered spare ribs are genuinely sublime.
The food tasted all right, not the best Thai food I have had. The servers were not bad and the food arrived in a normal amount of time. Considering the price of the food I think they correctly priced for what you get.
The place was very loud
Great place and delicious food!!
I’ve been to Obao multiple times. But I have to say I was a little bit disappointed after my last visit. They called me about 45 min after my reservation time, the food wasn’t as good as usual and the service was awful that day. Definitely not coming back, specially having that many options in NYC
