Fantastic as always. The sugar cane skewered spare ribs are genuinely sublime.
The food tasted all right, not the best Thai food I have had. The servers were not bad and the food arrived in a normal amount of time. Considering the price of the food I think they correctly priced for what you get.
The place was very loud
Great place and delicious food!!
I’ve been to Obao multiple times. But I have to say I was a little bit disappointed after my last visit. They called me about 45 min after my reservation time, the food wasn’t as good as usual and the service was awful that day. Definitely not coming back, specially having that many options in NYC
The food was great! Horrible, loud techno music. Repeatedly requested music be turned down. Music so loud, they didn't bring all our desserts because they couldn't hear the order. We love thai food but won't return here.
I’m just going to say it.... I’m picky! This place was awesome! The food, the service, the ambiance....all of it was 10/10! I would highly recommend making reservations at this place if you want to have a great Thai dinner. I wish we lived nearby!
The food is always good that why I come here very often. But the
The food here was AMAZING. I had the kimchi fried and sugar cane ribs as appetizers and the Vietnamese pork chops for the entree. I finished my meal off with their delicious Thai iced tea icecream.
Overall, the experience was good, but since it was a table for one I felt sort of ignored. There was no waitress assigned to my table so I had to wait for a long period of time to get someone's attention. I left a tip just to be courteous, but they really didn't deserve it. No on ever voluntarily came to see if everything was okay or to seek my order.
Meh. Just ok. Portion size were small. Service was apathetic. Really small wine list, so emphasis on weak cocktails. Probably wouldn't go back.
we come to obao frequently due to its location ,which is close to the theater dist., its very good service, prices, value and quality of food. we dined with friends from sweden/london and they and their children greatly enjoyed their experience here.
Food was great but the music was loud. Club like atmosphere despite sit down dinner
Obao always delivers! Delicious food!!! Service is fantastic. Always enjoy myself there.
Good as a pre-theater choice.
Soupe de curry rouge avec des nouilles
Two friends and I met here for dinner at 7 on a Saturday, and the place was hopping; reservations are recommended. It was also loud, but a fun party atmosphere, and we were able to talk fairly easily. The host was a delight, very gracious and helpful. After being seated and waiting around 15 minutes, we had to call someone over to take our orders. After that, service was fine.
The three of us shared two plates of crispy spring rolls as appetizers—so very good! Two of us had Kui Teaw Lak Sa soup, which is delicious and very hearty; our third had a pork belly banh-mi sandwich, tasty but a little skimpy for a dinner. One of us had two of the same cocktail, but each looked and tasted different, which was weird, but she liked them both. I'd definitely try it again, but probably on a quieter night.
We went there for pho because I heard it was a nice southeast Asian restaurant. But the pho they made was hard to spread and eat. The whole pack of pho was sticking together. And the other kind of noodles was overflavored. The waiter sent us to the corner. We were the second group of people on the second floor but they guided us to a corner table. Me and my friend couldn’t even face each other when we were eating. When the waiter heard that the pho was not properly cooked, she took it back and they made a new one for us. But it was still the same. I would definitely go to a smaller and cheaper Vietnamese restaurant for pho. Didn’t really enjoy eating here.
Appetizers were great. Pho dish was delicious and spicy. Curried duck was a little too sweet but otherwise pretty good. Would have liked chopsticks at the table but the service was great and they were available upon request. Great!
Very noisy club music playing
Poor service no interaction didn’t even offer us drinks just took the menus away without talking to us
ok it "looks" nice, but
nobody looks at you when talking to you
service is low grade
Appetizers : went for dumplings... dog food
Asked for a MILD (non spicy) meal... got a VERY SPICY meal: couldn't eat it
Do you think they bothered seeing a full plate when taking it away?
Do you think they where sorry?
Do you think they would not charge you for something you didn't ask for ?
People who score this place with 3 and above should spend a holiday in Thailand or a real thai restaurant ... to understand Obao is as good as streetfood in my opinion.
Sorry if I'm rough but I haven't had such a bad experience for a long time :-(
The food was good overall but the light fixtures in the front were covered in dust and kind of disgusted us...we would come back if it we're cleaner.
Affordable and gorgeous
Went here for Valentine's Day, waited 15 minutes despite having a reservation. Sat down, immediately noticed there was something sticky from the table, hair on my napkin, and both of us had dirty dishes. Took 20 minutes for a waiter to come over (they were understandably busy), took our drink and appetizer orders, weren't served or checked on for another 20 minutes. Finally, I say something to a worker standing in the corner, still waited another 10 minutes just to order our dinner, that took another 20 minutes, we had a 7pm reservation and wasn't served our meal until almost 8:30pm. Servers didn't even check on how our meal was which usually isn't important to me, but after making us wait so long, they were entirely clueless of the situation. That's unacceptable for a New York City restaurant. Food was good, but the service (or non-service) was horrific and I'll never go back. There are great vietnamese/thai restaurants in the city, this isn't one of them.
Great dinner, great drinks, nice ambiance, and close to the theater!
Felt rushed. Only concerned about ordering entree. We were surprising a family member and they wouldn't allow most of us to sit until everyone was there. Waiting area small. Overall I would not go back or recommend anyone to go there. Food was ok extremely small portions for the price. We left after apps since they were very friendly. Walked a block down and found a more welcoming place
Fast service, interesting decor and excellent food
the food was all delicious, good portions, good prices. We went for a 3:00 late lunch on Superbowl Sunday. Apparently they had a shift changeover at 4:00 pm in the middle of our lunch. So, while we were still eating, (messy hands etc.), the server insist we had to pay the bill and sign credit card receipts. That was a bit annoying.
The food was delicious. Portions were just right and the service was excellent. We really liked the steamed dumplings as an appetizer and the eggplant side dish was fantastic. The pho what was needed on a cold night in New York.
Nice, authentic Japanese food. Very nice & cosy atmosphere. Nice & friendly service..
The food was very tasty. The servers were fast and attentive. Certainly it is a place to come back.
Family get together of 6 - service was okay - but the food is excellent.
Very poor service including forgotten items and spilled drinks. Loud generator next to the table.
Expected more from the food but will try their other branch and see if it’s better.
Great flavors. Very fresh. Yummy cocktails.
Would come back.
Great food at a very reasonable price
Really fun place
I have been coming to Obao for years, and have always been extremely pleased with the food. Although the taste of the food is still amazing, the portion sizes have definitely decreased. I am not someone who can handle a lot of food, and after an appetizer and a bowl of pho I was still hungry. The serving sizes used to be HUGE with more than enough to bring home. Increasing the price while decreasing the portion is disappointing. Also, I was sad to see that Obao received a “B” rating for health inspection. This has always been my go-to Pho spot, but because of this I might have to start branching out and finding other restaurants.
Very good food abd affordable
Very good Thai food thought everything is a bit spicy even if they tell you it’s not (I don’t really have a tolerance for spicy food so it was a lot for me but amazing nonetheless). GREAT lunch specials as well.
It a great evening at Obao. Recommend it for all !!
