Loved the food!!! Great staff. I love everything about our experience. The music, the staff and I love seeing the cultural diversity of the customers.
My ratings are based on outside . The ambiance inside looked great but due to COVID we preferred outside. It was quite loud and it just really table and chairs . Some places make it a bit nicer but again it’s hard. That being said the food was great, server was kind and I would definitely eat there again by take out or once covid is gone to ear inside . It looked super cute !
Green curry chicken used dark chicken meat which was very disappointing
The food was excellent, some of the best Thai I've ever had. The service was friendly and attentive. To top it all off, the price was really reasonable. Excellent!
Virtually all my reviews are positive, so I am not a habitual complainer. But this one is NOT positive.
The food was pretty good and the prices reasonable.
But there were only 4 red wine choices and they were out of one.
There were 3 dessert choices and they were out of one.
The worst part by far however was the service.
We literally had to get up and chase our server to order dessert. We sat for 15 mins with empty plates. We waved, we tried to get attention; they looked over and kept walking. Until we got up and followed them.
Then, the only dessert I wanted, they were out of.
No apology, just matter of fact "we are out"
On an Avenue with so many interesting choices, they need to provide some minimal level of service to be competitive, and they did not.
They have a 930 pm option to reserve tables. Then they called us day of at around 7 pm saying can you come in earlier around 915 and we said ok we'll try. We got there at 920 and they said they actually gave our table away because we were 5 mins late. Acted as if they were doing us a huge favor seating us and were very short when taking our orders. Excellent food and environment. Just a shame service was bad. And I can even understand that they didn't want someone seated so close to closing time. Suggestion would be to remove the 930 pm slot if you close at 10 pm. I think our experience would have been amazing had we just planned to be there at 9 pm instead of having to make changes last minute.
Delicious food and drink in a fun atmosphere!
It was great from start to finish. We ate outside and the weather was perfect. The service was very good and the entire experience was one of the best of the weekend.
Excellent food, ambiance and customer service. Prices were good, drinks superb. Thanks.
Great selection of drinks, appetizers & entrees.
The food was amazing, we had basil fried rice and crab fried rice, both were excellent.
Went on a date, great place for that, cool decor, easy to have a convo. We each got a cocktail, split an app, and each had an entree and it was $90 including gratuity, amazing bargain (NYC wise) for what we got
The food and drinks were amazing. It was just loud and hard to hear. The service was excellent.
Such a cute vibe, food was amazing, music was great - will definitely be back!
Very good Thai food. One the the best for a reasonable budget.
Very good meals! Wait staff was awesome!
The food was just ok, to be honest. And the service was not good. Two waitresses were practically running the entire restaurant. I don’t think we’d go back.
Came here for an early dinner, it was still happy hour so $10 cocktails fig tini was sweet and refreshing,as well as the flunk flink was so coconuty loved it !
My husband got their two spicy drinks with the hot peppers also very delicious !
Appetizers get the ribs ! Fall off the bone and crisp on the outside and the tamarind sauce was my favorite!
Steamed dumplings classic and delicious also paired with a delicious sauce
I got the pad Thai it comes with shrimp
Really tasty cooked well!
My husband got one of the spicy pho
He really enjoyed it !
Overall great experience Really good service
Authentic, great tasting Thai food. And Gluten-free friendly.
Meh. Not sure I get all the great reviews. Service was terrible, ambiance okay.
Drinks were great, food was bland.
My shrimp was uncooked. The beef was tasteless and overcooked. This was our go to place before the theater and was so disappointed.
The food was really good, and came out fast. No complaints at all and would definitely recommend. Staff is super polite.
This is my go spot for Asian/Thai when I’m in the city. I had the Short Rib Massaman Curry and it was Bursting with flavor. I’ve never had a bad meal here. The drinks are always a treat too!
Excellent service and cocktails!
Good was great. The server seemed inexperienced and unhelpful with recommendations.
The front reception was great and did an efficient friendly job of checking vaccinations
To die for food
Food was delicious-probably the best Thai food I’ve ever had! And the lunch special is a great deal-would highly recommend!
Perfect, as always!
Excellent staff and service! Staff went over and beyond my expectation and the was deliciously good!
The food tasted good , there was a misunderstanding about the drinks for happy hour and the seating in the back was very cold
Excellent food and really quick, friendly and efficient service. Loved the Lobster Pad Thai and the drinks. Highly recommend
Arrived with party of four. We all placed our drink orders and waited a while for the drinks. One of the drinks (a beer) did not show up when the other drinks arrived, and we had to ask for it again. After placing our food order, one person received their food very fast but the rest of the food did not arrive. We asked server several times about the food but it still did not arrive. Much time later the rest of the food arrived but it was cold as if it had been sitting out. The restaurant offered to remake but we had already been waiting and could not wait further. The service was definitely below grade.
Delicious food, good menu diversity, good ambience, good portions.
The only downside for me personally was that the music was playing too loudly. But maybe that’s just the vibe at OBAO. Worth it for the meal, though! Will be returning.
We usually go to the Obao on the UES, apparently they changed chefs at this one. The calamari was a little bit different, but still tasty. Suffice to say, the hostess took care of us and rectified some of the other issues that came up. She also acknowledged that the new chef at the Hell's Kitchen location doesn't do everything exactly the same. Will definitely be going back to the UES location as the food is always good there!
Never miss a year to dine here. Whenever we have visitors this is our go to place. Good food, good ambiance, love their cocktails. Though the amount of food serving is less than I remember from our last visit. Guess there's a lot of changes around this time.
It is a good place where you can try Vietnamese and Thai food, with moderate prices for Manhattan and very interesting homemade cocktails (fig infused vodka, for instance, which they did not have this time though).
The venue is not so spacious, especially the area around the bar. They closed the upper level during our visit, so it was quite crowded and noisy at the ground level.
I was told that they don't open the upper level during the week,
only on weekends (?).
I would not say this is a good spot if you want to have a quiet dinner or to have an intimate conversation. And they were a little bit understaffed during our time (manager and bartender were taking orders), I would say, which can significantly affect service (no one to order drinks from at the bar).
Tasty food overall, good portions. No complaints about that, but they need to pay attention to details if they want to improve their restaurant business and guests experience:
- maintenance of table (cleaning dirty dishes especially)
- the venue looks like it needs some renovation and some extra maintenance (the bar should be cleaner)
- only 1 (one) unisex toilet for guests AND staff (?)
- I didn't like the fact that guests are supposed to pack their own food (I know that pandemic is still on, but personally I don't support this idea in restaurants)
Generally, with a few improvements, OBAO could become one excellent Asian restaurant.
Btw, they have 2 locations: Hell's Kitchen and Midtown East. I definitely have to try the second one as well.
Fantastic cocktails, food and service. I brought my two young teenagers, and they enjoyed it, too!
Great food, quick service, friendly servers and Chang beer! What could be better!
