With the success of our Flagship restaurant in midtown and Water Street location, OBAO is proud to unveil its Hell's Kitchen location located on 9th avenue between 45th&46th.
There is so much quality Thai food in the area, and Obao’s food doesn’t match up. The dishes overall are too sweet and too greasy, and even though I didn’t overeat, I felt kind of bloated and heart-burny afterwards—unusual for me. Despite the fun vibe and great location, I won’t go here again.
Extremely busy, crowded restaurant but the staff hands it well, servers were nice and made great recommendations. Food made it all worthwhile. Staff and kitchen worked well with food allergy. We will be back!!
Would have been 5 stars except we were forced to wait for 1/2 hour even though I had a reservation!
They refused to seat us until my entire party was there. As my friend was delayed on the LIRR, the rest of us sat on an uncomforable, crowded bench dealing with a cold draft every 30 seconds when the door opened.
Excellent food and service!
I read some of the reviews which said the service was unfriendly, poor and rude in some cases. I couldn't agree more. Our waitress bordered on hostile. Luckily, there was a friendly young man who later brought our boxed leftovers with a smile on his face so he saved the day with regard to service. As for the food, it's overpriced and mediocre. I guess this is par for the course with the proximity to Times Square. My nephew commented that he had been to the Financial District location and it had lower menu prices. He also really liked the food at that location. The take home message here is if you want to try Obao avoid the Hell's Kitchen location! I won't be going back to that one but might consider one of the other locations.
Very nice, foot was delicious and the hostess was very amiable.
Good quality Theatre district Thai. Reasonable volume makes it easy to talk.
Food was delicious. There were a ton of people there but it doesn’t feel crowded with how the tables are laid out. I’d recommend
Always great food and reasonable pricing
I am a local and LOVE the food and atmosphere at Obao. Whenever I have friends in town, I make sure we either go to OBAO or order out for delivery to enjoy at home. The pad thai dishes are phenomenal, especially the lobster and shrimp dishes.
Great food !!!! Fast service. 2nd time here. Will def come back soon.
i had heard good things about this place and i have to say it's probably the worst service i have had anywhere in a few years and i eat out a lot. i am a native new yorker and love food and although i have become vegan recently, i have enjoyed gray's papaya to perry street, food trucks to gramercy tavern and mamoun's falafel to per se. not only did it not feel like any dining experience in NYC, it was as unpleasant as eating at TGI friday's at an airport during a flight delay. the server couldn't have been ruder if she tried. she rushed us as soon as we sat down to get drinks not once but several times, and kept trying to clear the table and give us our check when we were barely finished. horrible service, mediocre food and sorry guys, lose the headsets.
Loved this place. Good food and good ambiance for a nice date or even a quick bite.
Going to Broadway show night.
Great food (the bun was delicious), quick service, nice atmosphere, close to theaters without being in the craziness of Times Square.
Given the limited number of moderately priced restaurants in the Theater District serving edible food, Obao remains an option.
Food was ok. Waitress wouldn’t split our check
Service was great, but food was uneven. Quality of appetizers exceeded main course. Penang curry tasted flat with an overly watery consistency.
Amazing food and great service. Would definitely return as the menu was great and lots more to try. Cocktails were also good.
We loved dining on the upper level. It was quiet and cozy. The food was excellent, however, our server was not friendly.
Waitress was curt, not friendly or helpful at all. Did not return to our table after taking our order. Never offered second round of beverages or asked if we needed anything. Food was delivered by a different person and we had to flag down other waitstaff when we needed something. They wanted us in and out of there as quickly as possible. It was not a relaxing pleasurable dinner experience.
Love this place. The person collecting our credit card at the end of the meal was a bit rude, but besides that the food was amazing and our waitress was super attentive and awesome.
The Pho Bo is incredible and the Pad Thai is also delicious!
The food here was amazing. Everything was good and we would definitely return. Very good value for the $.
The service at Obao is efficient and usually gracious. The food is decent to very good. (At least one dessert is stellar; I've enjoyed it a number of times.) The setting is pleasant, and decor, simple. Prices are very reasonable by New York standards.
We ate here before theater. The place was packed and we still had great service. Loved our drinks and had delicious pad Thai and crispy chicken with cashews. Great dinner will be back!
Did not respect my food allergies - very bad
Went for a birthday. I would like to thank you for the accommodations since we were late to our reservation. Kitiya, our server was great. She held it down. Restaurant itself looked beautiful. I like the wood in the walls. The food and drinks were amazing as well. I had the basil fried rice and it was delicious. I’m still thinking about it. I would go back again
Way to noisy. Ordered pad Thai with the shrimp on the side ( my wife doesn’t eat shrimp) said they couldn’t do that. Didn’t really understand that one.
I have loved this place for ages but on this recent visit, I found that portions have decreased a bit as prices have increased a bit. Otherwise, still delicious appetizers in particular.
Service is just above average but the food is excellent and for a good price so I’ll come back
Super interesting take on Thai food!
Came with friends after happy hour! It was really good, we had a reservation but we still seated about 10 mins after. Wasn’t a fan about that. Overall, great food and vibes. Definitely recommend!
The vegetarian pad thai was pretty meh. I got the sense from my non-vegetarian friends that the meat options were pretty good, and the pork chops were especially well-cooked. However, the fried tofu in the pad thai was poorly cooked and had a gritty texture and bitter taste. The vegetables and sauce were pretty bland. The venue is very beautifully decorated, though, and the service was very fast.
The food was really delicious and the cocktails drink were really good. I would definitely come back to this restaurant again
As always, OBAO impresses!!
Food is great and happy to come back but alcohol prices are over the top.
This was in a good location for my group- and the prices are decent.
Trop trop bruyant ! La serveuse insiste qu’on prenne entrée et plat, il n’y a aucune obligation il me semble. Bref très déçue je m’attendais à beaucoup mieux.
Nourriture correcte sans plus.
Decent food but not at all spicy. Guess it's kept at safe level. Drinks were good. Wait staff were nice and accommodating and not rushing you along. Buzzy, Saturday night atmosphere.
