With the success of our Flagship restaurant in midtown and Water Street location, OBAO is proud to unveil its Hell's Kitchen location located on 9th avenue between 45th&46th.
Chicken wing appetizers were overcooked and did not seem freshly made. Mushroom dumplings were lukewarm and unexceptional. Braised pork belly and crab fried rice entrees were excellent. Ambience was nice and energetic, service was not very reaponsive but not negligent
We had an enjoyable meal before catching a show. The staff was pleasant and the service was quick. The artisanal drinks where unique and well crafted. We started with the plaa salmon and mushroom dumplings both of which were excellent. Our short rib entrees fell of the bone. The drunken noodles had the perfect amount of spice. Dessert and tea was a real treat. We’ll be back.
Table booked over 30 days in advance and was given a table in the corner with my chair practically in another table
Food was overbearingly spicy - wasn’t informed a Thai green curry and pork on the menu would be this way - ruined the meal
No acknowledgement of my note for my fiancé’s 30th birthday
Very noisy and lacked ambience
Great value; highly recommend the crab fried rice and green curry, however less seafood/fish offerings than I expected. Atmosphere is cool and fun, and the food came to the table very fast (great if you're in a rush, not if you're looking for an experience). Would def go back.
I couldn’t get use to the club style music. The main course took so long between when we ordered and when we received our appetizers that I feel the waiter forgot to put the orders in. Otherwise the food was excellent. A larger portion size would have been nice.
Great vibe, great food, great location...
good place--very hectic at night, quiet at lunch time. Great selection of dishes-veggie, noodles, fish, meat. Variable spice levels--everything is very tasty.
Great atmosphere, tasty food. Vibrant Saturday lunch/brunch crowd, the lower level was quite full by 1pm. Nice selection of choices on their menu, we enjoy the variety we selected (steamed dumplings, spring rolls, pad see ew and eggplant tofu). Happy to return the next time we're in NYC.
Crab fried rice was amazing and so was the pad Thai
Very good food, good service. Nice drinks. Happy family
Great food and service, though cocktails while tasty were mostly ice. Stick with the sake or beer if looking to drink for the best value.
Excellent food.. great service .. would highly recommend.
I went for dinner on a Friday night at the Times Square location. It’s a very busy location due to the volume of guests with the theater district nearby. The service was excellent as the foods and beverages. Will definitely go again soon
Had a bunch of small plates pre theater and all were very good. Happy hour prices on drinks throughout restaurant which was very nice. Mushroom dumplings, Chinese broccoli, calamari, and sautéed bean sprouts all delicious.
Food was great - had the lunch special
Fabulous food. Fun place. Liked it so much I went 2 nights in a row.
Wonderful food and service. I will be coming back for sure.
More than I expected. Very tasty food.
Our group loved the food. Thai and Vietnamese fusion well executed.
We dined there before seeing Moulin rouge at the hershfeld theater. We were seated and the server came
up to us quickly and got us drinks. We had checked the menu out online and couldn't wait to try the dumplings, pork belly and ribs. Unfortunately the server began by telling us they were out of all of those apps. We were crushed. We settled for fried spring rolls and kimchee fries which were good. We ordered the grilled lemongrass short ribs for dinner. What came out was a plate of sliced beef with sautéed onions and some sliced carrots. looked much different than the menu showed. The server was very nice but said they didn't order enough food for the weekend and they ran out. We may try it again but we were there at 5: 30pm not 11pm
Cool vibe, great music and nice food!
Phad thai lobster ok only
-The atmosphere at Obao is exceptional with a lot of fun lighting.
-Can't go wrong with the Pad Kee Mao.
-They were out of several of the apps we wanted to try - the Pork Belly being the main one.
Loved it and my partner loved it as well. Great date spot that demonstrated that I was intentional with both ambiance and taste. Drinks were amazing "Fig-I-Tini" was the best I have ever had! This place is a must
We went for Valentine’s Day and it was amazing! Service was so quick and the food was delicious!
Very Good !!!!!!!!!!
I made a reservation for two for me and my boyfriend for Valentine’s Day. The restaurant was fully booked but I managed to get the last spot on OpenTable for 4:30PM, which is a bit early for dinner, but it was okay, and with the holiday and restaurant’s midtown location, traffic was ridiculous so despite leaving on time, we didn’t get there till about 5:15. I wasn’t confident that they’d let us in but I called maybe 15min before we arrived and after mentioning we did make an official reservation, the man over the phone said we could still come and when we got there, the host immediately gave us a table in the quieter space upstairs (after I showed proof of the reservation). I have zero complaints about the food, drinks, or service. Our food was great, I enjoyed the two drinks I ordered, we constantly got refills on water, and the servers made sure to keep checking in that everything was going well. The space between tables was a bit small so we were sitting very close to other guests but simultaneously it was still pretty quiet and intimate, and I didn’t feel like they were invading in my space our overbearing my conversation, nor vice versa. The interior design was beautiful and made the vibe feel extra special, but I also wasn’t completely blown away with amazement by anything. I can’t recall if there was a dessert menu, and if there was I don’t think we got one, but I would definitely come back again and try something else on the menu.
Asked to have a dish modified due to a dietary restriction and the server refused
Very good quick service. Food was delicious. We had the calamari app and the papaya salad with the Claypot Catfish They have happy hour 3-6pm.
If you like Thai food, you will like Obao. Great food, good service, reasonable prices. A step above other 9th avenue Thai restaurants.
Delicious food, but English language impediments completely messed up properly crediting our Open Table reservation. it required subsequent correction after the restaurant canceled the reservation after we dined there. The food quality makes up for the annoyances.
It was great. There were four of us, and we started with the calamari, but it was a small serving and so only 1.5 pieces each. Otherwise, it was a great meal.
Lovely food, great atmosphere. Attentive staff. Slight wait but worth it! Would recommend to all. Pho Bo was amazing!!
Dated and touristy. Crowded and tight but felt larger because of mirrors. Felt like an old nightclub and played the most awful 2000's house music. Food was generic take-out quality thai food.
Good food, good drinks, large selection of food options, noisy
Food was very good...they were out of a few menu items, however the veggie dumplings and kimchee fries were fabulous. I would definitely recommend and plan to return with friends!
Overall it felt from the minute we arrived that they wanted us to eat fast and play the bill so they can have new customers and do the exact same thing again. The food was good but didnt save the overall feeling.
Great restaurant, unfortunately it took a long time to receive our drink order. The place was packed.
We got seated right away in the upstairs area. Our servers were two people training. We waited 15 minutes for water while the other guest sat after us were greeted with water immediately. The servers would come over to take our order but than start a side conversation and walk away, it was very odd. One of our entrees came out before our cocktails, our side of veggies came out after we finished our entrees and also came out wrong. Absolutely a horrible experience.
always reliably good...I come here almost every time I'm in NY.
