With the success of our Flagship restaurant in midtown and Water Street location, OBAO is proud to unveil its Hell's Kitchen location located on 9th avenue between 45th&46th.
It was super busy on a saturday night, had to wait 10 minutes for our reservation but the food was great. Quick, efficient service. Good selection of dishes. Fun place.
Obao is consistently good. The food is excellent-though the pork in the Bún this time wasn't as good as usual-flavorful, fresh, and interesting. Service is quite good until it gets really busy then things slow down but mostly very good. This is one of my go-to spots when I want good Asian food or when friends are visiting the city.
Nice cocktails, nice staff, nice food. We liked it
Pretheater dinner. Not crowded at 5:30; packed at 6:30. Attentive service; pleasant ambiance. Food was interesting southeast Asian fusion. Different from the Thai and Vietnamese I have eater previously, but rather too sweet and too oily for my tastes. A little pricey for the food. You are paying for the service and ambiance. On whole, recommended.
Pad Thai tastes like sugar and noodles, zero flavor
Great food, excellent service and always dependable. Prices are reasonable. It's very crowded and the tables are tight but the restaurant was packed and you were able to talk at the table without shouting over everyone.
i felt like the waiter asked me more than 20% of tips.
Food was amazing, everyone enjoyed what they ordered.
Dinner for 4, one of the entrees was actually inedible, the clay pot fish. I could not even detect that it was fish since it was drowning in sauce that was heavy hoisin flavored, just terrible. The Bun entree was fresh and tasty, duck noodles were flavorful but very one note. Kimchi fries nothing special, salt shrimp was ok if you don’t mind eating the shells on them & the calamari was excellent. Drinks were all very sweet but good. The room is interesting. All in all I have no idea how they have such a high rating on Trip Advisor . I would not eat here again.
Always tasty and many app and entree choices - good value . Delicious cocktails for happy hour $10 . Cute Asian / sort of hip atmosphere - busy enough but not too loud or crazy .
Excellent beef dishes and steamed dumplings. Cocktails were well done also. Skip pork belly as it was bland. We will definitely return as the waitstaff was attentive and we enjoyed the atmosphere. Very close to theaters and service was quick. We ordered each course separately to slow down the meal.
My wife and I were visiting New York and wanted to find Asian food. Obao was a great choice. The food was excellent and service friendly.
Good food tasty drinks for pre theater is always good and not over priced
Delightful! Kate, at the bar, was wonderful & prepared a very pretty cocktail (and tasty, too)!
Friends formerly from NY now living in Manitou Springs, CO, were equally impressed.
I would definitely go back. The food, atmosphere and service was very good
Always enjoy the food there however it is important to understand this isn’t fine dining at a quiet restaurant. Tables are on top of one another. With the music piped in and the level of conversation all around you it won’t be a quiet evening with friends. Having said that, we come back because the food is so fresh and tasty and the service is very attentive, all for a reasonable price.
The worst spring rolls I’ve ever tasted. The salad was soaked in watery spicy dressing; it was basically a soup. All the Michelin recommended items on the menu were not available. My local noname Thai delivery place does a better job w the entrees.
Disappointing food. Not tasty at all. Very frustrating.
Busy Saturday night. Our whole group loved their meals, but the calamari appetizer and lobster pad Thai stood out.
We have steamed dumplings here (the Hell's Kitchen location) every time we come into the city, and they are some of the best dumplings I have ever had. The food is generally good. I was disappointed recently when we asked for side bowls of steamed vegetables and were charged the same price as a full entree. So, don't go off menu.
Love this place. Food was outstanding. Kimchee fries, pad thai and dessert all fantastic.
the food from OBAO is one of the best Thai I have had in a long time.
We were just in town for the evening to see a show. Obao was the perfect place to have dinner beforehand. the food is delicious, the service was great and since we were there before 6:00, we were able to take advantage of their Happy Hour drink specials. I would highly recommend it. Make reservations, though, it got very busy after 6:00!
Food was very yummy! Service was quick, but seating was very tight.. like if I stretched my arms even a little bit, I would bump the table/people next to me and the table was so small, we could barely fit our menus, nonetheless our food and drinks.
Excellent pan-Asian cuisine in the Theater District. Service is friendly and efficient. Prices are moderate for New York City. Popular, crowded, and noisy. At the hour that we went (Thursday 6:30 PM) the place was jammed with pre-theater diners - our bad. Nonetheless the meal was excellent.
Food was tasty. The tofu and eggplant was very skimpy. Barely any eggplant in the dish
A bit pricey for the portion sizes. Pad Thai was good, not great.
Christmas Dinner. Great people and lovely food
What a pleasure to find a restaurant close to the theatre district where 6 people could be accommodated with a reservation made the same day and we could hear ourselves talking! And the fusion Asian food was excellent. Our party included vegetarians who had many options. Nice choice of cocktails. I enjoyed my margarita renamed a Comrade Party Drink! Lots of fun and the vibes were relaxed and friendly
Yummy food with some nice upscale versions like lobster pad Thai
The waitress was helpful and accommodating. Service was great and food was delicious.
Very good service and big portions
Good food, nice place
The server got our food order wrong and it was tough to hear her read back the order since she was rushing and had a thick accent. The food runner corrected this for us and brought out the right order but the mistake was still on the bill. It ended up being $2 more than our original order but we didn’t want to bother the server again since we didn’t get an apology or acknowledgement. Overall the food was great and the spot is beautiful.
I go to Obao once a week and constantly love the service and food.
Don’t under stand why I made a reservation to only have to wait 30 minutes to be seated past my reservation time.
The food is exceptional for NYC Thai. The papaya salad is an experience of great joy. All the other dishes are also delicious. I also enjoyed their house drinks. Great place.
Family dinner before a show. Food was great and service was fast and attentive.
