With the success of our Flagship restaurant in midtown and Water Street location, OBAO is proud to unveil its Hell's Kitchen location located on 9th avenue between 45th&46th.
My Husband and I had an excellent dinner here for restaurant week before going to see a show. The drinks and food were brought out very quickly after ordering. While the speedy service was appreciated, we could have had more time between the appetizers and main course. Our waitress was excellent. I would eat here again.
Food was fantastic which compensated for the lack of service
Food was ok. Both steamed dumplings and spring rolls had a huge piece of sausage pork in them. The pad Thai was terrible. Ambiance was great. Service lacking. Would not go back.
Great lunch special! It was perfect for our group of 5 for a work Birthday celebration!
Plats très frais et copieux, super bo bun!
Ambiance de la salle très agréable.
Nous avons passé une très bonne soirée en famille.
Great tasty food, service is fine. Been here a number of times and is very reliable in a neighborhood that has tons of Thai restaurants.
With so many Thai restaurants in Hell's Kitchen (9th ave area), there are alot to choose from. The service was nice, promptly seated us with our reservation, and we had ample time to make out 8pm show..which unfortunately resulted in cancellation due to the blackout. I guess we were lucky to have eaten before the blackout happened. The food was good, presentation nice. Cocktail special prices was okay. We had a nice time, but I can't say I was wowed given the busy-ness of this place. But it was nice to be able to have an rsvp and relax.
Very nice , food is fantastic. Waiter felt that he was rushing us at the beginning - but we settled into a good rhythm and had a wonderful evening
Went there with my family for my sister's birthday. I had been there once before and enjoyed it but this time, I was impressed all over again! The service was superb and the food was incredible. The ambiance was the cherry on top - so beautiful!
Great service, great food and well priced! The spare rib on sugarcane and the roasted duck noodles were amazing. Will definitely recommend.
Quickly jumped to the top of our list for restaurants in NYC. We both left and said that is going to be a must every time we visit NYC! Delicious
Un chouet endroit. Bonne cuisine et très bel endroit. Un peu bruyant. Je le recommande.
Fast service , delicious food! Absolutely no complaints
Great food. Dumplings fabulous. Eggplant and tofu perfect- even when ordered mild. Pad Thai with 8 large shrimp. $7 wine happy hour till 6. Perfect pre- theater. Enjoy
Always a treat coming to this restaurant! Food, ambiance, decor, wait staff- all great!
Good food but not fabulous. Reasonable though and fast service
Obao Was recommended to me by my daughter who has eaten there a number of times. I was meeting a friend for lunch and going to a matinee just one block away. It was a wonderful place to talk and the very best part was the meal and the service! It was the best pad Thai I have ever had! And I have been to many Thai restaurants because it is one of my favorite kinds of food. I look forward to taking other friends back another time.
I took my son for his birthday! All of the food was well flavored but my noodles were a bit stale. All and all it’s a nice location. Food is reasonably priced. The decor is nice as well!
I'm so glad we found this spot in the city. We arrived early for our reservation and were seated promptly. Our server was fantastic and very efficient. We ordered a variety of dishes and each was terrific. We will definitely return!
I had a 5:30 reservation for 2 people. At 4:58, I received an automated text saying my table was ready and I should text 1 if I'm on my way, 9 to cancel, or STOP to end messages. I texted 1 and received a reply, "Great! We'll see you shortly." When I got to the restaurant 10 minutes later, they would not seat me because, as the hostess said, "We only seat complete parties." I was not happy with that response, and told her: "I have a 5:30 reservation, you texted me that my table is ready, and I want to order a drink and an appetizer while I wait for my friend." She persisted in saying that they only seat complete parties, and I continued expressing my frustration: "But it's my table, and it's ready, and I want to order something now!" She apparently conferred with management and seated me, but I was not disposed to enjoy my dining experience from that point forward. In addition, once we arrived, we found that the servers rushed us ("Are you ready? Can I take your order?") and seemed very eager to clear our table and get us out of there—which was strange, because the whole time we were there, there were quite a number of completely empty tables.
Tremendous tasty food and nice buzzy atmosphere ... unpretentious. Would definitely go again!
Made a booking in advance and we were immediately escorted to our table. We were sitting next to the serving table and asked to be moved to the table across since it was a little claustrophobic for me. They said it was reserved but was left unoccupied for a good hour. The chilli chicken i ordered was very dry and almost really hard to bite into. We have been here before and had a good time and meal but just ended up having a very average experience this time!
Was very disappointed with our meals. The pad see ew was too sweet. The lemongrass short ribs were tasteless. The veggie dumplings were not edible. I should request a refund of the meal.
Solid food for the price and the neighborhood. Great service!
I enjoyed the food which came very swiftly, I was confused by the service of one of the male waiters. When I asked for a refill of water he refused to fill my glass but he filled the glass of a couple sitting next to me who had not asked for any service. Next he smiled at me when he passed as if it was intentional.
good for a casual, affordable dinner. the lobster padthai was overcooked but still tasty. waiters were great, kind of loud but should be expected for price point and neigborhood- seemingly a lot of tourists. overall good!
Food was delicious! Service was very good, It was a bit crowded...we were three at a table that really should have only been for two.
One bathroom on first floor super crowded. Upstairs had two but it was about 150 degrees in the waiting area.
Food was great as usual! We were seated promptly even though we were a few minutes early for our reservation. Service was attentive.
Good happy hour wine and IPA options. Efficient service but lacks warmth...personal touch. Salt and pepper shrimp and Egg plant spicy tofu were good. Veg. Spring rolls were just ok. AVOID the vegetarian pad Thai-Bland with strange sweet off-putting flavor- BAD. Will go back if I’m the area with no other options but won’t make a special trip.
Good restaurant with authentic Thai dishes. Love their Papaya salad and Thai red curry. Service was wonderful.
We have been to OBAO several times and even time it is delicious! They really stand out when it comes to Thai inspired food!
Great food and great atmosphere
Not an authentic Vietnamese/Thai place to dine in, nothing outstanding but okay to go when you are around Hell's Kitchen.
There was no sense of urgency when addressing the customer as you entered. Also, when asked about an item on the menu on how the ingredients were used and what was the flavor. The answer was returned with “oh the lobster is $40.” I think they need to listen to their customers more and not judge them based other factors.
Excellent food, great setting and attentive service. The price point excellent.
You must have the shrimp and chicken dumplings
Hostess was rude, dismissive and seated us 20 minutes after our reservation time, when there were multiple cleaned and open tables. We told the hostess we had a show at 8PM but this was dismissed. She also was aggressive about asking if we had paid for a bottle of sale ordered at the bar - which we had already paid for!
Have been here several times over the years. Consistently good food and good service at reasonable prices. We started with shrimp dumplings followed by crispy duck noodles and a thai chili chicken with broad flat noodles. Tables are a little close together is the only (minor) complaint.
Great food, and loved all the pretty lamps. Very romantic. And the prices weren't too bad for the quality in nyc!
We came here to celebrate my Birthday and have been here many times. The food was great as always but our waitress was another story. We were sat in the back right corner of the restaurant at 5:30pm on Friday, May 31st. Our waitress had the worst attitude and manner that we have experienced in a long time. She was condescending and rude. When we asked simple questions about the menu, she pointed at the item, rolled her eyes and snipped at us like we were stupid. We are aware that everyone had a bad day but this attitude was unacceptable. This may prevent us from ever coming back or recommending Obao to our friends. As it was my Birthday, we tried to make the best of the situation but as avid diners, we will most likely take our business elsewhere.
