Oasthouse Gastropub Ratings and Reviews
Service: While I had been to Oasthouse once before and had a decent experience, my spouse had not and so we chose it for our date night. We were seated quickly, but it was a good 10 minutes before someone noticed we were fidgety and finally came to ask if we'd been waited on. That person was the service manager. After he took our drink order, he promptly chatted with the manager and then the waiter who had repeatedly walked by us and a few minutes later, finally came to us and apologized. Apology aside, he continued to be distracted by the much larger table that he was under the impression he was supposed to get instead of us.
Food: We ordered the bruschetta, and it was eh. The bread was not baguette style, rather more like sandwich bread. Our salads (mine beet, hers wedge) were good. And the shining star of the meal was the corn bisque. SO GOOD. We then had our main dish, mine a ruby trout (way, way over cooked) and she had the ribeye. Her steak was cooked perfectly, however the shrimp on top were not cooked through (ewww.) Our wine was good, but they can't take credit for that, so...
Ambiance: It is really loud in there. The acoustics are terrible, every sound, the live music (while good), the many dropped glasses/plates, the wild running children...all so loud and distracting.
I might be back to meet a friend at the bar for happy hour. The bar is big with plenty of seating. But we won't be back for dinner.
Though the beer was good and the alcohol selection nice, I thought the menu was over-priced for the portion size and quality. For example, a half dozen medium sized shrimp and a scoop of grits... $17.99? More like $8.99 anywhere else. And the scallop dinner that Rob Balon raved about included 3 sea (large) scallops on some risotto for $23.99.
The food was great. The service was good. The overall experience left much to be desired as Brazilian soccer fans in the bar were so loud you could not hold a conversation in the dining room. Another disappointment was the failure to recognize a special occasion disclosed while making our reservation. The greatness of the food could not overcome the poor atmosphere and attention to details.
I had only been here for dinner before, so I was surprised to find out they did serve brunch! They have amazing menus for every meal. The food was outstanding, and since it was early (10:30) it was pretty quiet. For dinner it was much more crowded, but it's a nice and enjoyable brunch time with friends. Impressive bloody mary bar, too (if that's your thing)!
My fiancé went to Oasthouse for her best friend's bachelorette. There were 5 girls total. The place has a great look and the manager, Andrew, is amazing! He came by to check on them several times! They sat in the bar area and had specialty cocktails, several appetizers, as well as entrees, sides, and desserts! Everything was delicious and reasonably priced! There was a guy playing music there, and he was very good! The atmosphere is awesome! Unfortunately, we do not live in Austin, but if we did, we would definitely go back!
Great food, beautiful restaurant and wonderful staff. Especially the hostess, who was very friendly. My only grumble was the special. The food it's self was wonderful and wonderfully plated, the portion size of the protein was good but the side was a bit small. It's that the special wasn't written down anywhere so we didn't know the price until we got the bill. Three specials at $35 a pop was a bit of a shock but still well worth it and it's our fault for not asking what the price was up front. We all had a good time and will be going back again.
Food was great, they were short one waiter but the staff hurried up to get the most out of it.
The Greek Salad I ordered was amazing, however they brought my Fish entre together with my Salad. Not sure if the waitress was new, or just got behind and ended up with both plates at the same time at the table. Either way fish got cold by the time I got to eating it. I recommend this place, the food is very good along with the bloody mary they make.
We came for weekend brunch. The menu looked interesting, but the food as delivered didn't meet those expectations. The chicken in one meal was overcooked and smelled of rancid oil. And the waffles were cold. Another entree was served early, supposedly as an appetizer even though no appetizer was ordered. By the time it was recooked, everyone else's meals were delayed. The service was inconsistent at best.
We went to Oasthouse Gastropub for our Anniversary. We had never been before and it was well worth it. The Ribs I had were outstanding, as was the steak my wife had. We split and entree of fresh made pasta as our appetizer and it was great as well.
When the managing partner, Jeff, found out that it was our anniversary, he insisted on buying us dessert. We then proceeded to have 2 desserts. 1) A peach crumble which was very good and Cookies (Chai Snickerdoodle, Peanut Butter and Bacon, Chocolate Chip) and Cinnamon Milk which included cookie dough as well.
Everything was great and I can't wait to go back.
i was looking forward to trying this place over the memorial day weekend but the experience was very poor. The menu was interesting and we were looking forward to trying several things. The food they brought out was poorly prepared. half of the dishes we ordered either went back for another try or were taken off the bill. the server was nice but the level of service was not inline with the menu prices. based on the day I was there I would not recommend this place which is too bad. we need places like this in the area.
Meh.... We tried this after reading positive newspaper review. We were terribly disappointed. Food very below average. Attentive waiter, but he knew little about menu or drinks. Burgers and ribs dry/overcooked. Mashed potatoes came out cold and in shape of scooper. Poutine was miserable. Would not recommend. I've had better food at a chain restaurant -- which really isn't saying much.
We came here for Mother's Day, and loved it! Five out of five dishes were excellent, and all of us left very happy. The only thing we didn't enjoy were the TV's with sports playing. Really detracted from the cool vibe of the place. I loved it so much I returned 2 days later for lunch. The weekend brunch menu is definitely better than the regular menu, so I think we'll stick with that, but overall, a great place that will become a regular.
It was over an hour from order to serving and even then the food did not come out all at once nor was it hot when it got to the table. We were too hungry to complain at that point. Tasty - but warm at best. The manager (very nice) was involved but it took us making a comment after an hour. Was surprised that nothing was comped...or a table dessert not offered considering the cost of our meals.
Food was good, beer selections was good, the service is the best. I mentioned a discrepancy from what listed in the menu and what I was eating to our waitress. She patiently listen to me and then report the issue to her manager. He later brought me a surprise dish to make up for the error from my order. I was very pleased how they handled the situation instead of giving us a free dish or some desert like most of places would do. Can't wait to back to try their brunch!
