OAKLEYS bistro Ratings and Reviews
I think Oakley's sometimes gets forgotten these days with so many new dining options in town. I have to say, Oakley's is tried and true and has never disappointed. We were thrilled with our entire meals, as always. We recently tried one of the new restaurants. It was fine, but Oakley's shines. You will enjoy great service, wonderful food and a beautiful atmosphere. Don't let the strip mall location keep you away!
As always, Oakley's Bistro was wonderful. The wait staff is attentive without being obtrusive. I never feel rushed. The shrimp corn dogs are an absolute must. All the dishes are so well thought out and everything on the plate compliments the other ingredients. I'm always amazed at how delicious the food is. I would recommend this restaurant for any special occasion.
WOW!! What a find!! The shrimp corn dogs set the tone for an awesome meal. I chose to have tilapia, and my beautiful date had the meatloaf (oddly enough, she doesn't like meatloaf). Both meals arrived to table and were like works of art. Flavors that were out of this world, and portions that left us both satisfied, but not miserable. Highly recommend the chocolate whiskey cake. Atmosphere was a little noisy, and tables seemed very close together. Definitely will be making a return trip soon. Truly top 5 in Indy!!
I come back to Oakley's two or three times per year, every year since they opened. I love Steve's craftsmanship in the kitchen. This time around, we had butternut soup, eggplant soup, the mushroom paella and pasta w/meatballs. All delicious, but all incredibly salty. This is the first time that everything came to the table over salted, and alarmingly so. I hope it is not a trend.
We requested and had the "round table" near the kitchen. You can see Chef Oakley cooking, which was fascinating. He is the Michelangelo of food. The cuisine all looks incredible and tastes even better. We tried the Shrimp Corn Dogs and they were tasty and amazing. She had the Tilapia and I had the Salmon and both were superb. Dessert was a Chocolate Whiskey Cake and was phenomenal. I try something different each time. Try the Goat Mac and Cheese. Best in the city. This place is always an experience. Never has disappointed me.
Each dish includes a gastronomic experience!! Thai cauliflower soup was delicious with flavors of ginger and coconut complemented by ample heat!! The chicken tart is both flavorful and filling!! Short ribs tacos had a nice sweet Smokey flavor! You have to get the lemon creme brûlée - lemony tart with a charred sugar crust! Divine - thank you for the awesome service!!
My friend Cynthia and I were In Town for a woman’s seminar. We had driven up from Wilmington, NC. We had the most amazing meal! We had first heard about and seen Steven on Beat Bobby Flay 3 nights previous to our visit, and knew we HAD to visit. We had , of course, the shrimp corn dogs, then butternut squash soup, salmon over sweet potatoes, and the kitchen catered both to my food allergies, as well as my friends gluten intolerance. She had amazing creamed spinach, chicken and artichoke meatballs, and sweet potatoes. I also had a wonderful Italian Margarita. Her coffee was really good.
As always, Oakley's is a great restaurant that foodies in Indy should discover for themselves. The food is always elevated and well prepared. I had the tilapia and it was extremely delicious. If you like mixed drinks, the Manhattan I had was a great version of a venerable classic. My wife had the Basil Gimlet and the Grapefruit Sparkler and raved about both of those drinks. The shareables are delicate and appropriate as starters - we had the trillum cheese, and the salads were ample and filling. As someone who eats out frequently at the top restaurants of Indy, this should be on your list of places to try. It isn't cheap, especially if you order drinks. But you do get what you pay for if you want an exceptional meal in a cozy restaurant.
I was visiting from out of town, and my mom and I decided to have a special night out at your restaurant. We had a reservation, and yet the host attempted to seat us at the back of the restaurant in a very crowded area even though there were several open/more desirable tables elsewhere. We asked if we could sit at the bar instead (my mom's request), and the hostess told us that she would have to ask the two other customers who were already sitting there if it was "okay." Seriously? That was one of the strangest things I've ever experienced at a restaurant. You're not going to seat customers in empty seats AT A BAR if it makes the other people there uncomfortable? This is not a service-oriented attitude. We chose to sit outside because we felt so uncomfortable by the situation. (By the way, my mom needed two cushions to make the outside chair comfortable).
Your cocktail menu is inspiring, but did not live up to expectation. Both us us had the impression that there was VERY LITTLE alcohol in our drinks and for the price you charge, we felt annoyed and chose not to order another. My advice would be to always overcompensate on alcohol....people are happier and end up ordering more food.
I appreciate that you're using interesting ingredients in your cuisine. The vegetarian paella was especially good. The fall harvest salad, not so much (very odd-tasting cheese sauce).
Food was great and the menu had many very interesting and unusual offerings that came together excellent. The real treat was the service! Our waiter, a young man from Texas was exceptional. Was absolutely on top of the service, friendly, personal and had character. Thank you!
Oakley's Bistro is consistently one of the best restaurants in Indiana time after time. Chef Oakley is a master at combining taste and creativity. His dishes not only taste great but are works of art. We are truly lucky to have a chef of his talent in Indy.
